ׂ╰┈➤ Chapter 9 | Into The Night

────୨ৎ────

It was a late Tuesday night, and Jiwon was curled up in bed, the soft glow of her laptop the only light in her room. The day had been long, but her mind was still buzzing. After a quick scroll through her social media feeds, she decided to log onto the chat room where she usually talked with DreamWeaver

The screen blinked to life, and there he was—already online, his usual mysterious presence comforting in its familiarity. The chat window blinked with a new message from him

"Yo, Night Owl. What’s up?"

Jiwon smiled, her fingers flying over the keyboard to reply

"Just chilling in bed. You?"

"Same. Today was a lot. Needed some chill time"

"For real. School was a drag, and I swear my teachers are out to get me. How’s your side of the world?"

"Pretty much the same. But I killed it in this one class project, so that was dope. How’s your crew? You guys still trying to go viral?"

Jiwon laughed quietly, remembering their earlier attempts at going viral

"Oh, you know it! We’re working on our next big thing. Gotta keep the fans entertained, lol"

"Lmao, you’re gonna be famous one day. Don’t forget us little people"

"Haha, as if I could! But nah, we’re just having fun. Speaking of which, got any new music recs? I need something to vibe to"

"I got you. There’s this underground mix that’s been on repeat for me. I’ll send you the link"

Within seconds, a link appeared in the chat. Jiwon clicked on it, and soon, a mellow beat filled her room. She closed her eyes, letting the music wash over her. It was perfect—just the right vibe for winding down

"It’s a gift, lol. Glad you like it. Got anything on your mind tonight?"

Jiwon hesitated for a moment, her fingers hovering over the keyboard. She wanted to talk about the weird feeling she’d had all day—like something was missing, or maybe just off. But how could she put that into words?

"Not really… Just thinking about how fast this year’s going. Like, I can’t believe it’s almost over"

"For real. It’s wild how time flies. Feels like just yesterday we were stressing over finals"

"Ugh, don’t remind me. I swear I’ve aged five years since then"

"Lol, same. But hey, we’re surviving. That’s what counts, right?"

"Yeah, true. We’ve got this"

There was a comfortable pause in their conversation, the music filling the silence. Jiwon appreciated these moments with DreamWeaver—no pressure, no expectations. Just two people connecting through the void of the internet, sharing parts of themselves they might not with anyone else

"You ever think about what’s next? Like, after all this school stuff is over?"

Jiwon frowned, his question pulling her out of her thoughts. It wasn’t something she liked to dwell on too much—her future, the endless possibilities that came with it, and the fear that maybe she wouldn’t figure it all out

"Sometimes. But it’s kind of scary, you know? Like, what if I make the wrong choice?"

"I feel that. But I think we’ll figure it out as we go. No rush to have everything planned out. We’re still young, remember?"

Jiwon smiled softly at his words, feeling a little more at ease

"True. We’ve got time. And hey, at least we’ve got music and good vibes to get us through"

"Exactly. One day at a time"

They continued chatting late into the night, about everything and nothing at all—random jokes, weird internet memes, and even a debate about which movie was better: the classic action flick Jiwon loved or the indie film DreamWeaver swore by

Eventually, Jiwon's eyes started to droop, and she yawned, stretching out under her blankets

"I think I’m about to crash. Thanks for the chat, DreamWeaver. You’re the best"

"Anytime, Night Owl. Sleep tight. Catch you tomorrow?"

"You know it. Goodnight!"

With that, she logged off and shut her laptop, sinking into her pillow with a contented sigh. Even after the screen went dark, the conversation lingered in her mind—a comforting reminder that she wasn’t alone, even in the quietest hours of the night

As she drifted off to sleep, Jiwon thought about how strange and wonderful it was to have someone like DreamWeaver in her life—someone she’d never met in person but who somehow felt closer than most of the people she saw every day
