ׂ╰┈➤ Chapter 38 | Countdown To Prom
────୨ৎ────
Jiwon sat at her desk, tapping her pencil absentmindedly as the teacher droned on about calculus. The soft hum of the classroom was only occasionally interrupted by the sound of pages flipping or the scratch of pens against paper. Finals were just around the corner, and the stress was starting to settle in
She glanced over at Eunji, who was furiously taking notes beside her. Hanni, seated just in front of them, had already zoned out, her head propped up on one hand as she stared blankly at the board. Jiwon couldn’t help but smile at the contrast
A folded note slid onto her desk. She looked up to see Yeonjun grinning at her from across the room, subtly nodding towards the paper. She unfolded it, revealing his messy handwriting
"Are you going to prom?"
Jiwon bit her lip to hide her smile as she scribbled back
"Haven’t decided yet. What about you?"
She waited until the teacher’s back was turned before tossing the note back to him. Yeonjun opened it with a slight smirk, then quickly wrote something down and passed it back
"Depends on if you’re going, the note read"
She felt her heart skip a beat, her cheeks flushing slightly. Before she could respond, the teacher turned back around, and Jiwon quickly crumpled the note in her hand, trying to focus on the lesson again. But her thoughts kept drifting back to Yeonjun and the idea of going to prom together

As the bell rang, signaling the end of class, everyone began to pack up their things. Eunji slung her bag over her shoulder, turning to Jiwon
“Are you heading to the library? We should study for the finals together”
“Yeah, I’ll meet you there in a bit”
Jiwon replied
“I need to stop by the ballet club first”
“You’re really joining the ballet club?”
Hanni asked, raising an eyebrow
“When do you even have time for that?”
“I’ll make time”
Jiwon laughed
“It’s a nice break from all the studying. Plus, I miss dancing”
Eunji grinned
“You’re going to be amazing. We’ll come watch you at the next performance”
Jiwon smiled, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. Ballet had always been a passion of hers, but joining the club at school felt like a big step, especially with finals and prom looming over everything. Still, she was determined to make the most of it
As they walked out of the classroom, Yeonjun caught up to her
“So, ballet club, huh?”
he said, falling into step beside her
“Yeah”
Jiwon nodded
“I figured it’d be a good way to de-stress”
“That, and you’re really good at it”
Yeonjun added, giving her a playful nudge
She laughed softly
“Thanks. What about you? How’s skating going?”
“It’s... going”
Yeonjun shrugged
“I’m more worried about finals at this point. Can’t skate my way through calculus”
Jiwon chuckled
“If only”
They walked in comfortable silence for a bit before Yeonjun spoke up again
“So, about prom... you really haven’t decided?”
“I’m not sure”
Jiwon admitted
“I guess I just haven’t thought about it much”
Yeonjun gave her a sidelong glance
“Well, if you’re going, I’d like to be your date”
Her heart fluttered at his words, but before she could respond, Eunji called out from down the hall
“Jiwon, are you coming?”
Jiwon waved at her
“Yeah, I’ll be there in a second!”
She turned back to Yeonjun, giving him a small smile
“We’ll talk about it later?”
Yeonjun nodded, a hopeful glint in his eyes
“Yeah, later”
As she headed toward the ballet club, Jiwon couldn’t stop thinking about the idea of prom—and the possibility of going with Yeonjun. Finals were important, but there was something about the upcoming dance that made her feel a little lighter, like maybe there was something to look forward to after all the stress
By the time she reached the ballet club, her mind was spinning with thoughts of finals, prom, and the way Yeonjun had looked at her. But as she stepped into the studio, the familiar scent of polished wood and the sight of mirrors lining the walls calmed her nerves. For now, she could lose herself in the music and the dance, letting everything else fade away
