Y/N had grown used to her new routine with Konoha. They walked to school together in the mornings and, if he didn't have practice, walked home together too. It was nice. Unusual for someone like her who was used to being alone, but surprisingly... comfortable. And thanks to him, Y/N had even made new friends. Although, if she was honest, most of them were from the volleyball club, but hey-friends were friends, right?
One afternoon, as Y/N sat at her desk, scribbling aimlessly in her notebook, a group of girls suddenly approached her. These weren't just any girls; they were the pretty ones-the type that made heads turn when they walked into a room. Their hair was glossy, their uniforms perfectly ironed, and their confidence almost palpable.
Y/N raised an eyebrow. Oh boy... what is this about?
The leader of the group, a girl named Hana, smiled at Y/N like she was about to tell her a juicy secret. "Hi, Y/N! I've seen you around lately, and we thought we should finally come talk to you!"
Y/N blinked in confusion. "Oh... really? Uh, hi?" Where did they come from?
The group of girls circled her like a pack of wolves-friendly wolves, but wolves nonetheless. Hana was the first to speak again. "So, we heard you're friends with some of the volleyball boys?"
Y/N's eyes widened, and she was instantly suspicious. Ah, so that's what this is about. But at the same time, she was a little thrilled. Making new friends... this is what normal people do, right?
"Yeah, I guess you could say that," Y/N said carefully, sensing there was more to this conversation. Why do I feel like I'm being interrogated?
"Are you friends with Konoha?" Hana asked, a gleam of interest in her eyes.
Y/N nodded slowly. "Yeah, we hang out sometimes..."
The girls exchanged excited glances. Hana clapped her hands together. "Oh my gosh! That's amazing. I know him too! We're in the same class."
Wait, what? She already knows him? Then why does this feel so weird? Y/N thought, feeling more confused by the second.
Just then, the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch. Hana grabbed Y/N's hand with way too much enthusiasm. "Hey, Y/N, do you mind if we join you to watch volleyball practice after school today? We've been dying to see the team in action!"
Y/N froze. Uh... what? I wasn't even planning to go today! But before she could protest, Hana was already bouncing on her heels, looking thrilled with the idea. "It'll be so much fun!"
Y/N felt a pit forming in her stomach. This is suspicious... but I can't really say no, can I? With a hesitant smile, she nodded. "Uh... sure, I guess."
Hana beamed. "Great! See you after school!" With that, the girls waved goodbye and sauntered off, leaving Y/N sitting there, trying to process what just happened.
What on earth did I just agree to?
After school, Y/N packed her things, hoping Hana had maybe forgotten about the whole thing. But of course, like clockwork, Hana and her friends appeared at her classroom door, all smiles and excitement. "Ready to go, Y/N?"
Ugh... no choice now. Y/N forced a smile and nodded, leading the way to the gym. The whole walk there, she couldn't shake the uneasy feeling in her gut.
When they arrived at the gym, Konoha spotted her immediately, jogging over with a grin. "Y/N! What are you doing here? I've got practice, so I can't walk home with you today."
Y/N let out a small laugh, glancing over her shoulder at Hana and her entourage. "Yeah, um... they wanted to watch practice," she said, pointing at the girls.
Konoha's eyes shifted to Hana, recognition flashing across his face. "Oh, Hana! You're here too?"
Y/N stood there awkwardly as Hana beamed and flipped her hair over her shoulder. "Of course! We couldn't miss watching our talented boys practice, right?" Her voice had this sugary-sweet tone that made Y/N's stomach churn. Does she always talk like that?
Konoha scratched the back of his neck, clearly a little caught off guard. "Uh, yeah, I guess... well, enjoy the show?" He gave Y/N a confused look as if asking why are you here with them?
Honestly, I don't even know myself, she thought, shrugging in response.
The girls squealed and hurried to the bleachers, while Y/N, feeling out of place, followed them and sat down. The volleyball team, now noticing the new audience, exchanged confused glances but quickly got back to their drills.
The entire practice was... something. Hana cheered every time someone spiked the ball or made a play, even though it wasn't a match. Y/N cringed every time she yelled things like "Go, Konoha!" or "You're amazing, Bokuto!" at full volume. It's just practice... why is she acting like it's the Olympics? Y/N thought, trying her best to sink further into her seat.
Meanwhile, Konoha looked over at Y/N a few times, raising an eyebrow as if to say, You okay there? Y/N just waved him off with a nervous smile.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, practice ended. Y/N gathered her things, ready to make a quick escape when Konoha jogged over to her, wiping sweat from his forehead. "Hey, thanks for sticking around. I'll walk you home since you stayed until the end."
Y/N smiled, relieved that she wouldn't have to endure another awkward walk with Hana and her crew. "Yeah, thanks. Let's go-"
But before they could leave, Hana swooped in, flashing a dazzling smile at Konoha. "Konoha, I was thinking... would you like to grab something to eat? My treat!"
Konoha hesitated, glancing over at Y/N. "Uh... I kind of promised Y/N I'd walk her home."
Y/N, sensing the awkwardness building, quickly waved him off. "Oh no, it's fine! Really. You guys go ahead."
Konoha frowned, clearly unsure, but before he could say anything else, Hana had already looped her arm through his. "Come on! It'll be fun!"
Y/N forced a smile, backing away slowly. "I'll see you tomorrow, Konoha." With that, she turned on her heel and walked out of the gym.
As soon as she was out of sight, Y/N let out a groan. What just happened? Why am I always getting dragged into these situations?! She walked home alone, feeling a little weird about the whole thing. Konoha's just being nice... right? It's not like he wanted to ditch me or anything.
Still, she couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. As she kicked a stray rock down the sidewalk, her mind wandered back to the strange afternoon. Friends, huh? This is way more complicated than I thought.
With a sigh, she pushed the thoughts away and headed home, ready to put this day behind her. But deep down, she couldn't shake the feeling that things were about to get even messier.
