After his uncomfortable encounter with Hana, Konoha knew he had to find Y/N. He had the bento he made in his hand, but there was no point in retrieving the one Hana had stolen-it had already been contaminated by her drama-filled energy. Nah, I'll just let that one go, he thought, shaking his head.
Determined to set things straight, he made his way to Y/N's classroom, only to find it completely empty. He sighed, mentally preparing himself for a search mission across the entire school before lunch break ended. He wandered the hallways, scanned the gym, and even checked the library, but no sign of her.
Then, as if the universe had a sense of humor, he heard a loud thumping noise from around the corner. Curiosity piqued, Konoha hurried over-and there she was. Y/N, standing by a vending machine, furiously kicking it like it had personally insulted her.
"Stupid...useless... overpriced... scam of a machine!" Y/N muttered angrily between kicks. Apparently, her drink hadn't come out despite her having paid for it. The frustration was real.
"Uh... Y/N?" Konoha called out, trying to keep himself from laughing at the sight.
Y/N froze mid-kick, her foot hanging awkwardly in the air like she was about to roundhouse the vending machine. Slowly, she turned, her cheeks instantly flushing red. Crap, it's Konoha! She quickly dropped her foot, ready to make a run for it, but Konoha wasn't having any of that today.
Before she could bolt, Konoha was at her side, gently grabbing her wrist. "Hey, stop running away from me," he said, his voice soft but insistent. His eyes locked onto hers. "I... I really need to talk to you."
Y/N sighed, her heart racing. Konoha looked... desperate. Practically begging her with his eyes to listen to him. "Fine," she relented, though she was still feeling awkward about everything. "What is it?"
Konoha visibly relaxed, letting out a breath of relief. "Come on, let's go somewhere quiet," he suggested, leading her to the back of the gym, to the big old tree they always used to hang out under.
They sat down in silence for a minute, the only sound being the rustling leaves in the wind. It was that kind of awkward silence where both of them clearly had too much on their minds but didn't know where to start.
"So..." they both said at the exact same time.
They blinked at each other and then chuckled nervously.
"You go first," Y/N offered, gesturing with her hand.
Konoha took a deep breath. "Alright, look... about that day when I promised to walk home with you. I messed up, okay? I really didn't mean to leave you hanging. Hana kind of ambushed me after class, and she was... persistent about going to get ramen. My phone died, and I didn't realize until it was too late." He ran a hand through his hair, clearly frustrated at himself. "I wanted to tell you right then, but then you found out I was with her, and it looked really bad."
Y/N listened intently, her arms crossed but her expression softening as she started to understand what had really happened. Konoha continued, "And about the bento... I was shocked that she's holding your bento. I made that for you, and when I saw her with it, I got really mad."
Y/N blinked. "Well,yeah...she took it from me earlier."
Konoha nodded. "Yeah, and the worst part? She confessed to me afterward."
Y/N's jaw dropped. "You're joking, right?" Her eyes widened, and then suddenly, she burst out laughing. "Oh my gosh, she's really something!"
Konoha chuckled nervously, scratching the back of his head. "Yeah, well... I rejected her. I told her I wasn't interested, especially after I realized how fake she was."
That made Y/N laugh even harder, clutching her stomach as she imagined the scene. "I can't believe she actually thought that would work!"
Konoha watched her laugh, feeling a bit more relaxed now. But then, his face grew serious again. "Y/N, there's something else I need to tell you."
She looked at him, still wiping away tears from laughing, her heart beating faster as she sensed what was coming.
Konoha took a deep breath. "I... I like you. I've liked you for a while now, and I didn't realize just how much until all this happened. You're more than just a friend to me."
Y/N's face turned crimson as his words sank in. She stared at him, her heart racing. "You... you like me?" she repeated, her voice barely above a whisper.
Konoha nodded, his own face turning red. "Yeah. I do. And I'm sorry for everything. I didn't mean to hurt you, I just-"
Before he could finish his sentence, Y/N leaned forward and, in one swift motion, gave him a light kiss on the lips. It was quick, but it sent both of them into a state of pure, unadulterated embarrassment.
When she pulled away, Konoha's face was bright red, and his eyes were wide in shock. He looked like someone had just smacked him upside the head with a volleyball. Y/N, equally flustered, covered her face with her hands. "I... I like you too," she muttered through her fingers.
For a moment, neither of them spoke, both of them too busy mentally screaming in embarrassment.
Finally, Konoha smirked, his signature playful attitude creeping back in. "So... does this mean you forgive me?" he teased, leaning closer with a grin.
Y/N peeked through her fingers and shot him a playful glare. "Maybe... depends on how good the bento is," she teased back.
Konoha laughed, pulling out the bento he had brought with him. "Well then, lucky for you, I came prepared." He handed her the neatly wrapped bento, his smirk widening. "Careful, though. I might've put in extra love this time."
Y/N rolled her eyes, trying to hide her own grin. "Ugh, you're so cheesy."
They both sat down, the tension finally broken, and shared the bento under the tree, laughing and teasing each other like nothing had ever happened.
Maybe being hungry weren't so bad after all, Y/N thought as she took a bite of the delicious food. At least they brought us back together.
