Y/N wasn't quite sure how it happened, but somehow, she'd become an unofficial member of the pretty girl squad. It wasn't like she felt particularly pretty or anything, but there she was, sitting at her desk, surrounded by Hana and her friends.
How on earth did this happen? she thought, bewildered as Hana and the others chatted animatedly. They talked about things Y/N had never really thought much about-like designer handbags, weekend getaways, and... skincare routines that involved more steps than her morning routine. Are these girls... rich?
Y/N sat there awkwardly, nodding along to the conversation, even though she had no idea what "high-class exfoliation" meant. Then, like a sharp turn in the road, the conversation shifted to boys. Oh no, here we go...
"Did you see the boys in the soccer team? So cute!" one of the girls, Rika, squealed, twirling her hair around her finger.
Hana jumped in, leaning forward dramatically. "Forget soccer boys! Konoha Akinori from the volleyball team is soooo handsome. And he's in my class." She sighed dreamily, clearly infatuated. "But, you know, I just never had the guts to talk to him."
Y/N, now very uncomfortable, shifted in her seat. Wait... if she's in his class, why is she hanging out with me just to get close to him?
Hana, noticing Y/N's silence, grinned mischievously. "But thanks to you, Y/N, I finally got to talk to him during practice! You really made it work."
Y/N blinked. Made what work? I'm just here for the awkward ride!
"Oh... uh, yeah, sure." She laughed nervously. What did I do?
Then Hana's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "So, Y/N, do you have a crush on anyone?"
Y/N froze. Abort mission! Danger ahead! She scratched her cheek awkwardly. "Uh... I don't know. I'm not really sure yet?"
Hana and the others raised their eyebrows but seemed to accept her answer. They continued chatting, but Y/N's mind wandered off. Thanked me for what? Am I some kind of bridge now? And why do they keep talking about Konoha like that...?
When lunch finally came around, Y/N headed down to the cafeteria like usual. And, like clockwork, it was packed. Swarming with students, the noise level was deafening. Ugh, not again...
Her appetite disappeared. Instead of fighting her way through the crowd, Y/N did what she always did when things got too hectic-wandered around the school aimlessly. She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't notice someone in front of her until she bumped into them.
"Whoa-watch it!"
Y/N blinked and looked up, right into Konoha's amused face. He raised an eyebrow, scanning her expression. "Did you eat lunch yet?"
Y/N froze like a deer in headlights. Dang it! Why does he always know? Her silence was all the answer Konoha needed. He chuckled, shaking his head.
"Come on, Y/N. You're hopeless," he teased, pulling out his bento box. "You can share with me."
Y/N waved her hands in protest. "No, no, I'm fine! I just-"
But before she could finish, Konoha had already grabbed her wrist and was dragging her outside toward the gym. Y/N barely had time to register what was happening before they arrived at a picnic table where the rest of the volleyball team was sitting, chatting amongst themselves.
"Guess what? Y/N forgot to eat lunch again," Konoha announced, grinning as they sat down. The guys burst out laughing.
Y/N groaned, burying her face in her hands. "Why do you have to tell everyone?"
Konoha laughed, placing his bento between them. "I'll stop teasing when you stop forgetting to eat."
The two of them started bickering back and forth like siblings, with Konoha nagging her about basic human functions-eating, sleeping, not wandering the halls like a lost puppy-and Y/N firing back with snarky comebacks.
"You need a babysitter, honestly," Konoha teased, poking at her arm.
"I don't need a babysitter! I'm perfectly capable of feeding myself. It's just... you know, cafeteria chaos." Y/N tried to defend herself, but it was useless.
Their back-and-forth banter had everyone at the table laughing, except for Bokuto, who was pouting that no one was complimenting his spikes today.
Just when Y/N was starting to relax, suddenly-out of nowhere-Hana and her friends popped up like they had GPS tracking on her. Hana beamed and waved enthusiastically. "Y/N! There you are! Mind if we join you?"
Before Y/N or anyone else could respond, Hana and her crew were already sitting down, their perfect hair and glittering lip gloss looking wildly out of place with the volleyball team's sweaty post-practice state.
There was an awkward silence as the volleyball players exchanged confused glances. Why are they here? Y/N thought, forcing a tight smile. Oh, this is going to be painful.
Hana noticed that Y/N didn't have any food in front of her and, of course, saw Konoha sharing his bento with her. She clapped her hands together. "Oh, Y/N! You didn't have lunch? Here, take some of mine!" she said, pushing a small container toward Y/N with a sweet smile.
Y/N blinked. "Oh, no, it's fine-really-"
"Nonsense!" Hana interrupted, grabbing a piece of her food and placing it on Y/N's plate. "I'm on a diet anyway. I really shouldn't eat too much."
Diet? You've been eating like a bird this whole time, Y/N thought, silently bewildered. But then, to her shock, Hana reached over and took a bite of Konoha's food.
"Mmm, Konoha, your food is so good! Did you make it yourself?" Hana asked, batting her eyelashes in a way that made Y/N cringe inwardly.
Konoha chuckled awkwardly. "Uh, yeah. I made it this morning."
Y/N sat there, feeling like a third wheel in her own life, watching Hana flirt subtly with Konoha while simultaneously reminding everyone at the table that she was on a diet. The whole situation was like watching a weird soap opera, and Y/N just wanted to sink into the ground.
This is so awkward. Please let me disappear.
After what felt like an eternity, Y/N forced a polite smile and stood up. "Thanks for the food, guys, but I've gotta go. I, uh, forgot I have something to do... important... and urgent. Yeah, super urgent."
She barely waited for their responses before fleeing the scene, muttering a quick goodbye over her shoulder. As soon as she was out of sight, she let out a deep breath.
What just happened?
