Just that one-word "bye", said like he was someone she used to know.
And maybe that's what he was now.
Someone she used to know.
"Tu theek hai?" Abhishek asked, glancing at him.
"Haan," he said automatically. Then shook his head. "Nahi."
Abhishek raised an eyebrow. "Kya hua? Rihi se kuch...?"
Shubman hesitated. His throat tightened. "Kuch nahi."
But there was something. There had been something since the moment she stepped into his life with her shy glances and overthinking silences.
And whatever had happened that night in Goa-it wasn't just physical. Not for him.
Not when she'd looked at him like that. Not when she'd said yes in that trembling voice like she meant every second of it.
He had thought...
He had hoped...
That maybe it was more than the alcohol. More than a mistake.
But then morning came. And she looked at him like she regretted all of it.
That stung in places he didn't know could hurt.
Because they weren't strangers. They weren't even just friends. There was history. Months of texting. Quiet little jokes. Glances that lingered too long. Shared playlists. Late night calls that ended in sleepy "goodnights" and hidden smiles.
They were already something. Undefined, yes. But real.
And for her to walk away like it meant nothing?
That wasn't just guilt.
It was heartbreak.
He leaned back against the pillar, watching planes taxi in the distance.
"Main uske liye tha. Pure tareeke se. Lekin usne mujhe ek galti bana diya."
He clenched his jaw.
Maybe he had pushed too fast. Maybe he should've slowed down that night. Asked her again. Waited for a clearer head.
But damn it-she'd kissed him first.
He wanted to scream. Or call her. Or rewind to that moment when she looked into his eyes and said yes, not with fear, but with something almost like... trust.
And now she couldn't even meet his eyes.
He wasn't angry. Just... hollow.
Abhishek nudged him. "Aye, earth to Gill. Chal, coffee le lete hain?"
Shubman gave him a weak smile. "Tu jaa. Main thoda bahar fresh air le leta hoon."
Abhishek looked at him closely, like he wanted to ask more-but didn't. Just nodded and walked toward the café.
Shubman stepped out into the Mumbai sun, blinking against the brightness.
He took out his phone. Opened their chat. Scrolled up.
So many messages. Photos. Memes. Her little writing updates. His random cricket rants.
And then... silence.
Last seen: Online
Typing...
He froze.
Then it disappeared.
No message came.
He shut his eyes, head falling back against the wall.
She couldn't even say goodbye properly.
And still, despite everything, he missed her already.
