“PEACE AFTER THE STORM”
The final day of Operation Samarthya had arrived.
The air at the Drass base felt lighter — not because the altitude had dropped, but because tensions had. The storm had passed. The wounds weren’t gone, but they'd stopped bleeding. And today, finally, was about unity.
The last training exercise wasn’t designed to break — it was designed to bond.
A teamwork relay: four stations — one for each service branch — with mixed teams. No punishments. No revenge.
Just people… trying again.
---
Team 1: Aashna, Abhishek, Veer, Shreyas
“Alright, Sharma,” Aashna said, adjusting her gloves as they stood at the first obstacle — a low crawl under barbed wire. “Don’t cry this time, okay?”
Abhishek gave her a sheepish smile. “Only if you promise not to tie me up again.”
Shreyas choked on his water bottle.
Veer just laughed, “Let’s go before she does something worse.”
As the whistle blew, they crawled — dirt, snow, laughter. No rank. No titles. Just teammates.
At the end of the station, Aashna gave Abhishek a small nod.
He smiled.
Progress.
---
Team 2: Rihi, Shubman, Mrityunjay, Ishan
The second relay was a zipline descent over a frozen creek.
“Last time I flew, I landed in water,” Shubman muttered, eyeing the harness like it was a snake.
Rihi chuckled — an actual, genuine chuckle. “Don’t worry, this time you’ll land on solid ground. I might even catch you.”
Shubman’s ears turned red.
Mrityunjay and Ishan smirked as they clipped in.
The zipline ride was fast, fun, and somehow freeing. When Shubman landed, and Rihi caught his jacket to steady him, he didn’t let go immediately.
She didn’t pull away immediately either.

Later, at the open training grounds…
All eight of them stood in a circle for the final debrief. The officers were proud. The trainees were exhausted. The guests — now practically a part of the unit — were quiet.
And then… someone cracked a joke.
Veer: “I still can’t believe Sharma cried like a baby saying ‘meri maa mujhe maaf kar de’.”
(My mother please forgive me)Abhishek: “Bhai, she had me flying upside down at 700 kmph, what do you expect?”
Ishan: “And Gill touched feet. Literal ‘mujhe maaf kar do’ energy.” (please forgive me energy)
Everyone laughed — everyone, even Rihi and Aashna.
For the first time in days, their smiles weren’t painted. They were real. Bright. Full.
Mrityunjay looked at Rihi. “You okay now?”
She nodded. “Getting there.”
Aashna turned to Abhishek. “You’re still an idiot. But a slightly better one.”
He beamed. “I’ll take that.”
And as the sun dipped behind the mountains, eight unlikely souls — soldiers and cricketers, heartbreaks and healers — stood together.
Not as broken pieces… but as people learning how to rebuild.
