A Surprise in the Stands

Five months had passed since that emotional farewell in Drass. The mountains had long swallowed the echoes of laughter, confessions, and silent promises. But even distance and time couldn't dim the kind of love that had taken root in those snowy valleys.

Letters had been exchanged, filled with nostalgia and longing. There were calls - some crackling with poor signal, some filled with quiet words under starry skies. And video calls too - moments stolen between duties and training, where eyes did all the talking.

But meeting?

That hadn't happened. Not yet.

---

Rihi and Aashna, now both posted in Jaipur, had decided not to tell the boys about their transfer. This was their mission - a surprise. A perfect one. And the timing? Couldn't have been better.

The Indian Cricket Team was currently hosting Australia for a five-match series, and the next match was scheduled at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

The day before the match, Rihi had looked up from her camp papers and whispered with a smirk, "Kal stadium chalein?"

Aashna raised an eyebrow. "Tumhare Shubman ke liye ya mere Abhishek ke liye?"

They both burst into laughter.

But under the jokes was a beating heart each - waiting for that one glance.

---

Match Day.

The city buzzed with excitement. Streets were dotted with jerseys, flags, face-paint. Hotels around the stadium were brimming with fans. The entire state was ready to watch a battle between bat and ball.

And somewhere in that chaos, two girls slipped in quietly.

No uniforms. No badges. Just two ordinary girls with extraordinary plans.

Rihi wore a red ribbed top tucked into baggy jeans, sneakers laced tight. Her long braid swayed as she walked confidently through the crowd.

Aashna sported a light denim skirt paired with a white top, hair left loose beneath a soft cap. They both wore matching black caps, shielding their faces partially. And they had their mask too.

Their tickets weren't special. Just regular lower-stand seats.

But their hearts?

Racing like VIPs.

"Kitna miss kiya hai inhe..." Rihi whispered, clutching her cold drink as they sat down.

Aashna just nodded, eyes already scanning the field.

---

The Match Begins.

The roar of the crowd thundered through the stadium. India won the toss and chose to bat.

The opening pair - Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma - walked out to the pitch, helmets on, bats in hand. The crowd went mad.

Girls screamed. Flags waved. And somewhere in the middle of that storm sat two girls, their hearts quiet but eyes fierce.

"Woh raha tera hero," Aashna nudged, pointing towards Shubman.

"Woh jo sixer marega na... ussi moment pe main khadi hokar chill karungi," Rihi grinned.

And she didn't have to wait long.

Third over.

A slow delivery. Shubman's footwork was perfect. His bat swung - crack! - and the ball soared high over long-on.

SIX.

The stadium erupted.

Rihi jumped to her feet, arms thrown in the air. Aashna too screamed, clapping wildly.

The camera, hunting crowd reactions, zoomed in. The giant screen flickered.

And there they were.

Rihi, mid-jump, her red top and wild smile lighting up the screen.

Aashna, beside her, clapping with eyes shining.

Abhishek had just connected his bat for a four when the screen flickered again.

He looked up.

And froze.

His eyes locked on the screen.

Then flicked to the stands.

Rihi. Aashna.

Though only half of their face were visible due to cap and masks but the boys knew

Shubman saw it too.

A moment of disbelief.

Their faces shifted - from concentration to shock, to a softness that cracked through their otherwise unreadable game faces.

Shubman blinked, the bat loose in his grip. Abhishek's mouth parted slightly.

Was it real?

---

"Did you see that?" the commentator chuckled and whispered to his partner ."Looks like Gill and Sharma just spotted something way more interesting than the bowler."

Shreyas and Ishan sitting in the dugout looked up at the screen, then at the boys, and burst into laughter.

"Love-sick puppies ka reunion ho raha hai kya?" Ishan elbowed Shreyas.

"Woh toh lagta hai surprise mil gaya bhaiyon ko," Shreyas smirked.

---

On the field, focus returned, but hearts pounded differently now.

Every run, every shot - it wasn't just for the scoreboard anymore.

It was for the girls who had crossed duties, secrets, and states to be there.

And this match?

It had just become personal.
