Bucky Barnes x Reader
This is super short but I found it in my drafts and I have nothing else written at the moment, so I decided to post this for you guys until I get some more oneshots finished! Right now I'm working on another Chris Beck oneshot, so if you have any requests, please comment down below or message me about it! :)
It had been a few months since you had taken on the duty of acclimating Bucky to modern life. He could now easily function around cell phones and TV sets, but you tried your best to keep him out of the kitchen. The Great Toaster Incident had long since left its mark on the poor super soldier.
You currently sat on your bed, getting Star Wars: A New Hope ready to go. Bucky was slowly becoming more and more like his old self, and he wanted to know about what he missed. You chose to start with Star Wars after teaching him a little bit about the new technology. You had snatched a few extra pillows and blankets from around Avengers Tower and they were now set up on the bed, along with an assortment of snacks and drinks to keep your hunger and thirst sated during the marathon.
"Bucky! C'mon, I'll start it without you!" You called to him, as he was still locked away in the bathroom. He had already come into your room once with a very uncomfortable looking SHIELD uniform on, and you had forced him to go change into something more casual and pajama-like.
"I- it's just that- it still- ugh, okay, coming!" Bucky stammered back, his voice stressed and rushed. You bit your lip, hoping you hadn't stressed him out any. That was the last thing he needed on a lazy day like this.
Moments later, he emerged from the door way in plaid pajama pants and a... coat? You furrowed your eyebrows at him. "Bucky? You know we have blankets, right? If you're cold you can just use these. Do you need me to turn the heat up?" Bucky shook his head in response, crossing his arms over his chest. His right hand seemed to be clinging onto his left arm, hiding it. Your heart broke a bit seeing him like that, so uncomfortable with his own body.
"Bucky please... Just take the coat off. You know that I would be the last person on Earth to judge you for that."And it was true. You and Bucky had started dating a month and a half ago, and you had never been happier than when you were with him. He meant everything to you. He had insisted on not sharing a bed just yet, and you had taken it as him wanting to take things slow. But now you realized it was much more than that. He sat on the side of the bed away from you, his left arm hanging off the bed a bit. Now that you thought about it, his left arm never hugged you as tight. He always walked on your left side, his right arm hugging you to him. His left arm was always hidden under the table when you ate.
You inched your way over to him, resting your head on his chest and messing with the zipper of his jacket. "You know you mean everything to me, right?" you asked softly after a moment of silence. You looked at him and slowly, Bucky nodded. You smiled. "Then you should know that I don't care what that arm has done. I don't care who put it there. I don't care what it can do. I don't care. All I care about is that you're happy, okay? So please, don't hide it. It makes you unique and it shows how strong willed you are, because you got away. Please?" Another long silence ensued. Bucky was looking at you, his expression unreadable as he searched your eyes for something. He seemed to find it, because he sighed and sat up, shrugging off the jacket and tossing it onto the floor He was wearing a simple gray t-shirt underneath and you smiled as the metal of his arm reflected the sun streaming in through your window.
You started the movie, snuggling into Bucky's side as you watched the scenes unfold on the screen. He watched intently, gasping and gripping onto you as the movie went on. Soon, you two were in the middle of the bed, both of Bucky's arms wrapping securely around you in an almost protective manner. The movie ended and you felt his lips press against your temple before moving to your ear and whispering, "Please tell me there are more."
Stay street, stay unlit, stay alive.
