Jefferson - The Visitor

The man laughed, but it wasn't creepy. It was a friendly, joking laugh. "I'm not going to bite your head off or anything. (or cut it off... heheh) My name is Jefferson. I live not too far down the road and I couldn't help but hear you two out here. I thought you were just passing through at first but when I heard you still out here, I thought I should come out and offer some assistance." Jefferson smiled and tilted his head just slightly as he awaited your response.

You turned to look at your friend, who was still sat in the car and peering cautiously out at Jefferson. They looked unsure and conflicted, giving you a vague shrug. You sighed and turned back to the man. "I'm sure my boyfriend Sebastian would be okay with it. Is there any place to get a tank of gas out here?" You asked, being sure to give your fake boyfriend a name to make him seem a bit more real. Jefferson's expression brightened and he nodded, pointing down the road in the direction you were heading.

"It's down there a ways, I'd be glad to show you. You guys haven't been driving for too long, have you?"

"What do you mean by that?"

"I mean, you guys aren't hungry or anything, are you? I can stop by my house and grab you something if you'd like. The only place to get a good meal in Storybrooke is the diner, and I'm sure that's closed by now. There's not another town for a while." His tone was laced with concern as he spoke. By now he was mere feet away, and you could see the details of his face much clearer in the light from the car. Your eyebrows furrowed as they scanned over the jagged scar running around his neck, but you quickly looked back up to his eyes before he could notice.

You opened your mouth to speak, but the voice that filled the silence was not yours. "I could use some food I guess," your friend caved. "But I don't think we should leave the car alone."

At the submission of your friend, you nodded as well. "I could eat too. (Y/F/N), you can stay here and watch the car, I'll go with Jefferson." You turned completely around to face them so Jefferson couldn't see your expression when you continued. "Don't wander off, and if Sebastian asks where I am, tell him I'll be right back, okay?" You winked as you dragged your lie out further, and they nodded in response. You said a quick goodbye and closed the door, rushing around to the back of the car and grabbing the gas container out of the trunk once more. You gripped your phone tightly in your hand as you approached Jefferson.

"Ready?" He asked. You nodded, and he began leading you down the road. "I thought we could grab the food first and drop it back off with your friend before we go to the gas station. Is that okay?"

"That's fine. It's probably the best option so I don't get my head ripped off by a hungry (Y/F/N)," you joked. Jefferson chuckled.

"We wouldn't want that, now would we?" He commented, walking in time with you. Another gust of wind chilled your bones, and he took notice. "Oh, here. Take this. I don't want you to get sick." He took off his coat and put it on your shoulders, the warmth enveloping you immediately.

"Oh no, I really can't. Now you'll get sick!" You exclaimed, trying to push the coat off of your shoulders. He shook his head and kept it securely on you.

"I'm not the one with a big road trip ahead of me. I have time to be sick, you don't." You sighed and nodded. You walked in silence for a minute or two before Jefferson spoke up. "So, your boyfriend. What's he like?" He asked. You shrugged.

"He's pretty tall, he has blue eyes and his hair goes down to his chin. He's really sweet and funny, and he is always really supportive of everything I do," you replied, giving a general description of what one would usually say about their significant other. Realizing how cheesy you sounded, you decided to shut your mouth in case you made it worse. Jefferson chuckled from next to you.
