05: A Badass Pep-Talk

Start from the beginning

"Not about everything.. I still do want to defeat Savage to save the world from his wrath. The reason why you are all here is because you have no significant effect on the time line. And as Miss Grace says, I did lose people. Vandal Savage killed my wife and son in cold blood, and part of why I want to defeat him is for revenge." Rip explained, his mouth curling into a grim frown.

"That person who attacked us was Chronos, a bounty hunter from the Time Council, which I no longer am a member off. When I brought up the mission to the Time Council, they turned it down. I stole the Waverider, and gathered up you nine. But after today... You guys really are destined for greatness."

"We don't become legends? Or even have a significant effect on the time line?" Ray asked, seeming very disappointed. Sara let her arms fall by her side, her jaw clenched. The two criminals gripped their ice and fire guns tighter.

"No... I'm sorry. Kendra and Carter- I am truly sorry about your son. If you guys want, I will take you home. But please, we can still save the world from Savage." Everyone started to clear the room at Rip's words- heading for where all of their stuff is stored.

Meg gave a look to Rip, then watched the rest of the "team" leave the room. Her hands trembled by her side as she decided to follow everyone out. She didn't like that Rip lied to them... but what happened in 2166 was still able to happen. Meg knew that you didn't have to be a legend to save the world.

She found everyone down the hall, either sulking or grooming up their weapons. Ray tinkered with his Exo-suit, Mick and Snart polished their weapons, Sara sharpened a few knives, Kendra and Carter sat in a corner, grieving the loss of their son, and Stein and Jax were sulking to themselves. Meg sat down running a hand through her copper colored hair.

"You seem troubled, Red." Snart piped up, giving Margaret a sly look. She looked in his direction, and heaved a sigh.

"One: please don't call me Red. Two: I've been doing some thinking." She said shakily.

"101 ways to kill Rip Hunter?" Mick offered with a crooked grin. Sara gave a small chuckle, but swallowed it down.

"It's not that vulgar, Mick." Dr. Stein said, seeming defeated. Meg gave a glance over to Ray, who had looked the most disappointed she had ever seen him since she met him.

"What is it then? I'm sure Rip has already said everything he has to in order to get your gears going." Sara sighed.

"What more is there to think about? We just got told that our lives turn out to be meaningless and there is nothing we can do to change that." Ray said glumly, sending Meg his defeated look. Meg, who looked tired and pale, offered a smile to try and lift his spirits.

"It's not like we can change anything anywhere. Maybe going home is for the better." Jax stated, his arms folded. Margaret bit down on her bottom lip, trying to spit out the right words to say.

"What Rip lied to us about was becoming Legends. The future is still the future- to us, 2166 hasn't happened yet. I mean, come on, some of you are the most modest people I've ever met! Does being a Legend really mean that much to all of you?" Meg asked, finding her voice.

"If it means becoming something." Snart sneered dryly at her. Meg got up shakily, slowly pacing the floor.

"The world is still in danger from Vandal Savage. Just because we don't have any significant effect on the time line, doesn't mean we can't change it. The Time Council is after Rip because he wants to change something they think is set in stone. Why did he come to us then? He wants to change the future. That also means we can change our future." She explained.

"So you're saying we can just change our future? Rip already knows our future, though. It's set in stone." Stein said.

"I've thought about that.. For a while actually. You see, if I were to go to Spain in 1492 and convince Columbus to never sail across the Atlantic, it would have an effect. Nothing in time is completely permanent. We can change our future, AND save the world." Margaret clapped her hands together, pleased with what she had said.

Ray's defeated look rose to a smile, some sparkle of hope in his eyes.

"I say we stay." He got up, standing next to Meg.

"I'm still gonna call you Red, but I'll stay." Snart shrugged as he and Mick head over.

"I mean, what the hell? Change is what we need, right?" Sara smirked, getting up.

"We'll do it for our son. Hopefully his death with be the last on this journey." Carter said, patting Kendra's shoulder as they made their way over.

"This experience will be simply for science." Stein argued. Meg's face rose into an even bigger smile. Jax stared at the group like they're are nuts, then sighed.

"Only because Grey is going, and I promised I'd watch his back." He got up.

"So it's settled, we'll help Rip?" Ray asked everyone.

"Only because Meg gave a badass pep talk." Kendra said. Meg gave a small bow, and smiled.

Maybe she did prevent lives from being lost by ensuring that the team would all try to save the future.

Together.
