"I don't think that's how it works, Seb."
"I know," he sighed. "I just miss you..."
You bit your lip to fight back the tears threatening to spill onto your cheeks. "I miss you too," you replied in a whisper.
Your conversation continued for a bit until you realized that you had to get back to work. You exchanged goodbyes and hung up, Sebastian still muttering about your "idiotic Sergeant" the entire time, claiming that, "Bucky Barnes wouldn't treat you like that." You simply agreed and headed off to the rest of your squad.
You sat crisscross on your bunk that night, lost in your own thoughts. Your eyes gazed down at the engagement ring on your finger as you twisted it carefully with your other hand. You just missed him so much. You had been gone for so long, and while it felt amazing to be serving your country, you needed your fiance.
The mattress slowly dipped beside you, and you hastily began wiping the tears from your cheeks. You flickered your gaze in their direction to see who your visitor was. You contained your surprise as you were met with the image of one of the quieter and more reserved members of your squad. You had hardly ever spoken to her, but from what you had seen of her, she was quite a pleasant person to be around.
"Private Leon," you greeted as you finally wiped your face clear of tears and turned to face the woman next to you. She was rather new, having served for less than a year. You often felt bad that she did not seem to fit in to the group, but you could tell that she felt more comfortable out of the spotlight. You instead kept a close eye on her and approached her when you could tell she felt left out.
"Private (Y/L/N)," she greeted in reply with a small smile. You returned the expression politely. "I just... I just wanted to tell you that I talked to the Sergeant about your leave," she began, only to pause as if you should understand what she meant just from that. You furrowed your brows in confusion.
"What do you mean?" You wondered aloud. She bit her lip and shifted her gaze down to her hands, which were twitching nervously.
"I heard you say something about how you weren't able to go see your fiance for Christmas, so I went and talked to him about it. I offered to stay behind so you can go home and be with your fiance for the holidays," she explained in a shaky voice.
Your jaw dropped at her words. "N-No, Leon. I can't let you do that, that's not fair to you," you protested with a shake of your head. She shook her head as well.
"No no, please, I insist!" She exclaimed. "It's really nothing. I don't celebrate anything this season. I was raised in a home that didn't believe in holidays like that. I promise, I won't be missing anything," she assured you.
You swallowed, unsure of what do to. Surely she wouldn't have gone and spoken to the Sergeant if she wasn't really okay with it, right? Still, you continued to protest her gracious act for a bit until finally you caved, desperate to see Sebastian again.
"Thank you," you whispered to Leon as you pulled her into a hug. She instantly hugged you back.
"It's nothing, really. Just promise me you'll say hello to Sebastian for me, ehy?"
You pulled away and tilted your head curiously at her. "How did you know his name was Sebastian? Did you hear me talking about him?" You asked in confusion. You had never told her about Sebastian, so how would she know his name?
Private Leon chuckled lightly, a crimson blush sweeping across her cheeks. "Okay, this is super embarrassing, but I'm a huge fan of Sebastian Stan..." She admitted. Your eyes widened a bit, and she added, "You were the person that inspired me to join the Army in the first place."
