Phil woke first, showered and dressed, then woke Dan, offering him a clean shirt and jeans.
Dan stared at the shirt. It was Phil's blue polka dot shirt. He turned to Phil, "You really think I'd look good in this?"
Phil nodded and smiled, "You'd look cute."
"Cute?!" Dan threw the shirt at Phil, grabbed Phil's bag and pulled out a black top with ghosts on it, "This is more me."
Once they were both showered and dressed, they went down to the hotel dining room for breakfast and began discussing their plans for the day.
The instant they got into the car, Phil pulled out his camera and began recording.
"Are you really going to record everything?"
"Yes." Phil nodded, "Are you going to record anything at all?"
"Sure, when there's something worth recording."
They spent the day driving from one place to another, vlogging as much as they could and enjoying themselves. Half an hour after leaving the restaurant where they'd stopped to eat, they found themselves stuck in slow moving traffic. Phil noted Dan had become quieter and was fidgeting - a sign that he was fed up. He got out his phone and searched for an alternative route, determined not to let the day end on a bad note.
"Take the next left." Phil instructed. Dan glanced at him. "It's a shortcut."
"A shortcut?" Dan asked sceptically.
"Well, it'll be faster than sitting in this traffic."
Dan couldn't argue with that and followed Phil's directions. They weaved in and out of roads, around houses and past shops, until they found themselves on a narrow road surrounded by trees and bushes. Lots more twists and turns and over an hour later, they were still on a similar looking road with no civilization in sight.
"Uh, Phil... Where are we?"
Phil frowned and looked at his phone for the millionth time. "Um..."
"Tell me that you know where we are. Tell me that we're going the right way."
"Yea, um... I kind of lost my phone signal a while ago..." Phil admitted.
Dan pulled the car over, trying his best not to yell at Phil. He held up a hand when he saw Phil was about to speak again and took a few deep breaths. He turned on his phone, saw the 'no signal' message on the screen and threw it onto the backseat. They sat in silence for a few minutes, then Dan swung the door open and got out.
"Where are you going?" Phil asked, slightly alarmed.
"I just need to walk for a bit."
Phil stayed in the car and watched Dan walking up the road. He took out his camera and made a brief vlog, updating their situation. The sun had almost completely set now and the overhanging trees made the road even darker. Dan returned to the car, the look in his eyes warning Phil not to even attempt a joke.
"Should we go back, or keep following this road?" Dan asked.
"I don't know. We took a lot of turns."
Dan sighed, "Okay, we'll continue forward a little longer. Let me know as soon as you get a signal."
Phil hesitated before speaking, not wanting to inflame the situation. "My... battery died."
Dan grabbed his phone off the backseat and threw it at Phil, starting the car up again and speeding down the road.
"Please slow down." Dan didn't even look at Phil as he continued down the road. It was really dark now. He flicked the headlights onto the highest beam. "Dan." Something about Phil's tone made him listen this time and he slowed down.
Another half an hour of narrow, overgrown, curving roads and Dan pulled the car over again.
"I'm not driving all night." He grumbled.
Phil sat silently in the passenger seat.
"Any signal yet?" Dan asked, and sighed when Phil shook his head. "Well, I'm not driving any more tonight, I'm too tired."
Phil looked around apprehensively, "We're going to sleep here?"
"The backseat folds down." Dan stated, and climbed over the seats into the back.
Phil watched as Dan pulled and pushed buttons and levers until the backseat collapsed, then he climbed over and awkwardly lay next to Dan. "What about serial killers?" He asked, "This is how horror movies start!"
Dan rolled his eyes, "Goodnight Phil."
