Phil's heart flipped a dozen times and he couldn't breath as the soft warmth from Dan's lips transported him back in time.
Those few months after they first met had been everything. They'd both been so open with each other, neither one holding back. They had been the happiest they'd ever been.
Then it all went wrong.
Dan was startled when Phil pushed him away and sat up. "What's wrong?"
"We're drunk." Phil stated, "We need to sleep."
Dan shook his head, causing the room to spin slightly, "I don't feel that drunk." He put his hand on Phil's arm.
Phil pulled away and stood up.
"Phil..." Dan sat up, unsure why Phil was distancing himself.
"Dan..." Phil turned to face him and Dan couldn't quite read his eyes. He'd never been able to tell what Phil was thinking, unlike his own eyes which were completely transparent. "We can't go back."
"Why not?" Dan moved to the edge of the bed and Phil took a step back.
"Don't you remember what happened before?" Phil's voice rose, scaring himself.
"That was years ago." Dan replied, his own voice also rising.
"We can't go through that again!" Phil turned away from Dan, struggling to hold back tears.
"It won't be like that this time!" Dan got off the bed and grabbed both of Phil's arms, "It'd be different. We're different. We're stronger now."
Phil shook his arms free, "No, Dan. We can't!" The pain in Dan's eyes was mirrored in Phil's heart, but they couldn't go through that again, they just couldn't. It had almost destroyed their friendship, it wasn't worth the risk. Phil didn't understand what Dan was doing. Dan had been hurt the most, he had suffered more than anyone else, why did he want to put himself through all that again?

"I love you."
