Suddenly, a crash brought you back to reality. You turned, dropping the LED and hurried out back into the main room. You saw another android run for the door as Connor got to his feet. Pigeons flew up and blocked Hank's view.

"Ah! Stupid fucking pigeons!" He yelled. The deviant ran out. "What are you waiting for? Chase it!" Hank yelled at Connor. Connor took off. You followed after him. You both hurried to catch up to it.

You chased after Connor. You were able to keep up since you were actually pretty fast. You ran across rooftops and through work areas. You hadn't been in a chase like this in ages. It felt...good. You smiled a little as you ran faster. You were catching up to Connor. Suddenly, the deviant jumped onto a TRAIN! You stopped. You watched, your heart skipping a beat as Connor jumped after it. You didn't dare do what he did.  You looked around. Hank caught up to you.

"Holy shit. What now?" He asked with a few pants. You looked around. You spotted a route that would be safer for both of you.

"Follow me. We can cut it off if we hurry!" You said. Hank nodded and you both hurried along.

"Been a while since we did shit like this, huh?" He called.

"Yeah." You agreed. "This way!" You said and he followed after you. You kept running. Your legs pumped faster and you felt like you used to feel for a moment. The thrill of doing your job, the excitement of the chase, the hunger to complete your mission. You had forgotten what this felt like. You hadn't noticed Hank had fallen behind a little.

Suddenly, you saw a spot where you had to jump. It was pretty big. You weren't sure if you could make it, but you had to try. Hank called out to you.

"(Y/n) wait, don't!" He called. Too late. There was no time to slow down. You sped up and threw yourself forward. You made it to the other side. Hank stopped. "Head it off! I'll go around!"

"On it!" You shouted and kept going. As you ran, you smiled a bit. How long has it been? You wondered, clearing another gap. Since I wanted to try? You darted past a few android workers and kept running. Since I felt motivated to do it right? You were almost there. You kept running, your body becoming a blur as you moved faster and faster. You had forgotten how fit you actually were. You weren't hesitant or worried as you threw yourself past obstacles.

You made it. You saw the deviant rush out of some corn stalks. You launched yourself at it. It fought back. You tried to pull out your gun, but the deviant saw this and knocked it away from you. You tussled with it, but suddenly, it shoved you back with an angry shout. You hit the little wall surrounding the edge of the roof. Losing your balance, you fell backward. You felt the world slow down around you for a few seconds.

You suddenly remembered why caution was necessary. You may have been strong, but androids were built to be stronger and smarter than humans. Then, you realized the fact you had almost forgotten. You were human. And humans couldn't be fixed like androids could. They were mortal. They were vulnerable.

You screamed as you fell, the world going back to its normal pace. You managed to grab the edge. Your heart was racing now. You couldn't hold on for long. You screamed as you slipped, but someone caught you. You looked up and saw Connor had grabbed your arm.

"Hang on! I got you!" You were still slipping. "(Y/n), you gotta climb up! Give me your other hand!" You did as he said and held on with all of your might. Hank came as quick as he could and helped Connor pull you up.

"We got you, (Y/n)!" He grunted and soon you were back onto the roof. You were safe. You were shaking pretty bad though.

"She's in shock," Connor said.

"(Y/n)? Hey, can you hear us?" Hank asked. You nodded a little.

"She'll be alright," Connor said. You looked to where the deviant had run off to. You felt bad.

"Damn it...if I hadn't... We had it." You muttered. They both looked at each other.

"Hey, that wasn't your fault. You were only trying to help." Hank said.

"It's my fault. I should've been faster." Connor said. You didn't believe him. It was my fault. You thought.

"Hey, stop looking so down. Come on. It's been a long day for everyone. Let's go." Hank said. He began to leave and Connor followed after him. He paused, looking back at you.

"Lieutenant (L/n)?" He asked. You looked up at him. You walked after him, slower than normal. You kept your head down and said nothing. Connor noticed this. You were stunned when you felt his arms around you.

"I am not good at comforting humans, but...I know that most times when somebody is sad...people hug them." He said. "It wasn't your fault. This is my mission. It's my job to catch them. If I can't...then that's my fault." He told you. You felt your heart breaking. I-I can't do this...

"C-Connor..." You didn't have it in you anymore. "J-just let go." He let go and looked at you, concerned. How? You wondered. How can he be so convincing? He can't care... You thought. N-nobody really cares like that. I-I can't...I just can't. You pushed past him, trying not to cry.

"If you want to help me, then just let me be alone. I can't handle this shit right now, Connor." You said and kept going.

Connor's POV

I watched her leave. I walked along. Humans were more complicated than I thought. Both of them were hiding something. I knew it. I had to finish my mission, but I couldn't help it. I didn't want to see her get hurt. It made me uncomfortable to think about it. When I saw her fall, I hadn't even hesitated to help her. I couldn't let her fall. Humans were fragile. Humans couldn't be revived so easily like I could.

I made it to the car last. (Y/n) looked normal now. I had a feeling that she was doing that on purpose. She looked...emotionless. It was like she was an android too. Neutral. Nothing to think about, nothing to be emotional over. It looked...wrong. I had this weird feeling in my chest. There was no other way to describe it.

I wasn't supposed to want. I wasn't supposed to feel. Was I malfunctioning? I scanned myself. No. I wasn't. I was in perfect working order. But if that was the case...then...what was happening to me? Why was this happening to me? There were answers to this. I just knew it. And I was going to figure it out and fix it. I was going to make things right. I have to.
