Your eyes opened and you were surprised to find yourself hooked up to a machine that was holding you up. Kamski and Chloe were in front of you.
"Hello, (Y/n)" Chloe greeted.
"That should've taken care of the virus and the glitching. How are you feeling, Ms. (L/n)?" Elijah asked. The machine set you down and released you.
"I'm alright now. Thank you for your help." He nodded.
"I also extracted some glitched video feed from your memory. It seemed important to your colleagues."
"It is. It was an urgent message from Collin. He was able to break through and get the message to me, but there was some sort of barrier and that's what caused me to glitch and gave me the virus."
"I'll go get Detective Reed and Lieutenant Anderson," Chloe said and walked off.
"Do you mind playing it again for us? They need to see what I saw." You asked. He nodded and began typing things into the panel that controlled the big screen behind him.
"I'll see what will play from what I salvaged, but I can't promise that it will even work."
"Anything will be helpful. I remember what happened, but if I try to play it I might risk glitching again." He nodded and began working on pulling up what he could. Hank and Gavin came in with Chloe a minute later.
"(Y/n)!" Hank exclaimed. He hugged you. "You gotta stop scaring us like that, kid!"
"Sorry, Luitenant. If it's any consolation, I wasn't exactly planning for that either." You replied.
"Plan or not, you need to be careful! We lost ya once, we don't need to lose you again!"
"For once, we agree on something," Gavin added. You smiled a little.
"Thank you both, but I will be fine."
"Ms. (L/n)?" Kamski chimed in. You turned.
"Yes?"
"It's ready." You nodded.
"Play it. They need to see what I saw."
"What do you mean?" Hank asked.
"It was a distress call, but it was horribly glitched and it infected me with a virus. I need more eyes on it to try and decode what I obtained. It might lead us to the others, even if it is glitched."
"A distress call? Is that why you called for Collin before?" Gavin asked.
"Yes."
"Collin's still alive?!" Gavin exclaimed. You all looked at him in surprise. He stopped and realized his outburst. "What? I didn't think the dumb thing would last this long." He covered up.
"Right..." Hank said, confused but also slightly suspicious. The video started to play and the others were surprised when they saw a very glitchy image of Collin. He started to say the same things he told you, but each word was hard to make out.
Then, an image flashed and was suddenly up and the screen. You gasped. It was a map and it was showing where they were, but their location kept glitching out. Then, the map was gone. After that, all you heard was Collin telling you to hurry.
"Go back to that map." You told Kamski. He rewound it and paused it. It was still hard to make out the map. Still, you saved the image and thanked him for the help. Chloe led you to the door as you all left.
"So, we've still got nothing?" Hank asked.
"Unless I can debug the map location...yes." You sighed.
"At least that's something. It's not worthless." Hank said, patting you on the shoulder. You didn't look at, still ashamed that you couldn't do better.
"Thank you, Hank." You told him, trying to hide your guilt. He smiled slightly.
"We'll find them." You nodded At this rate... we'll find them broken on the ground. Tears gathered in your eyes that you desperately tried to hide. You got into the back and stared out the window as Hank started the car and Gavin said nothing. He'd already seen your tears and he wanted to talk to you, but he would never say it in front of Hank.
You asked Hank to drop you off at your house, saying you needed rest after all of the glitching. You walked inside and instantly slumped against the door. You hugged your knees loosly. Your cats came over, noticing your distress. You gently nudged them away, wanting to be left alone. They hesitantly padded off and you sighed heavily.
"Why can't I do this? Why can't I do anything right? I'm an android now and I still srew things up. I don't understand...how I am still so useless?" You thought about Connor, hoping he was still okay. You knew time was short and it only made things worse. Despite everything you were doing, nothing was getting better and there was nothing you could do.
Gavin's POV
I got back home at the end of the day, but I couldn't stop thinking about Collin. The fear in his eyes in that message...they might not have noticed, but I could see how scared he was. Collin didn't do scared, so...it only made my gut twist more.
I went to the kitchen to get something to eat. I needed it. I cooked up some fries and some chicken strips before sitting down and trying to calm my nerves. I was more...sad than worried at this point. It was weird. It was almost like I could feel what I knew (Y/n) was feeling. I'd seen all those looks before. I'd memorized them. Why did I know them? Because I used to look in the mirror every single day when I was younger. I used to see the tears of everything I ever felt. The guilt, the anger, the disappointment, I knew there was a face for all of them. Even when trying to hide it, the eyes gave it away.
I know, shocking that I know this shit since I'm just the prick at the station, but...I don't think it's shocking that I've never shared any of this with anybody. I mean, come on. Would you want to fucking blab all this shit onto some random dumbass? Yeah, didn't think so.
Still, that was another reason why having (Y/n) as a friend honestly kept me from going off the walls. Nobody cared about a guy like me, because I never let them. (Y/n) and I both found out the cruelest lesson in the hardest ways. She was ditched by a cock who'd rather have perfection the real love. I was rejected by my own blood for something I didn't know how to control. So, what's the lesson? Heh...why open up to anyone...if it just kills you in the end? Yeah, yeah, I know. "Because there can't be joy without pain." I've heard that 100 times before. And yeah, it's not wrong, but...some of us aren't strong enough for this stuff. After all, we're human....and humans aren't emotionless. Humans fall, humans are selfish, and ultimately...humans break.
