Connor's POV

I was distracted at work all throughout the day. Hank had to snap me back to reality more than once. He'd suggested that I go home so that way I could actually do something productive, but I'd refused. (Y/n) wouldn't be happy knowing I'd gone home for her. Plus, she was right. I needed to stay. I'd been gone a lot because of her and, though I knew she would never admit it, that fact never did sit well with her. The last thing I would want to do would be to make her feel guilty or make her feel as if she were a burden to me.

I wondered if I should at least call Cass. Then I would be updated, right? While I wanted to call, I was also holding myself back from it. I didn't want to bother her either.

As I was thinking, Hank snapped me out of it yet again. He snapped his fingers and I jumped a little at the sound. I looked over at him and he frowned.

"Jesus, Connor, you can't go five minutes without me waking you up. Are you sure you don't want to go home, son? It would make things a hell of a lot easier for you." I sighed.

"No, I...I need to stay, Hank." He sighed, shaking his head.

"I will never understand you." I smiled a little.

"Sorry, Hank. I suppose androids are the complicated ones now." He laughed.

"Neither of our kind was ever simple, Connor. Don't kid yourself." I nodded.

"I suppose you make a valid point."

"No shit, valid point." I smiled a bit, feeling much better after having some fun with him.

"Thank you, Dad." He smiled at me.

"Anytime, son."

The rest of the day went by easier after that. I was glad that Hank had helped me to smile for a bit. It was nice having him there. Our bond had really grown. I was glad to have people I could call my family. I might've had a weird family, but it was a family none the less.

I talked to Collin later in the day. We often talked to each other in the little Cafe area. I was honestly glad we had it. It was a safe and quiet place for all of us when we needed it. It almost felt like we would take turns just talking in there. If you saw two people there, you would wait for your turn to go in with somebody else. It almost felt like a tradition or a custom. It's hard to describe.

Anyway, while we were talking, the subject of (Y/n) did come up. Collin knew more than Gavin did. I'd asked him to keep it quiet. I didn't want Gavin bothering her or getting worked up like I was. I knew how Detective Reed worked. He would insist on seeing her, but the fewer people that were around her the better. Plus, if it was a disease humans could get, it was for his own safety as well.

I was still not exactly fond of Gavin, and things had been a bit shaky between us after what happened. In a different way than usual, anyway. But I knew my brother cared about him and he probably saw sides of Gavin I could never imagine being there. I knew that if Collin cared about him in such a deep manner, then there was something there worth caring for. I trusted him. So, to an extent, I cared about Reed's well-being also.

"How much have you found out?" Collin asked as we sat together.

"Almost nothing. No doctor can figure out what she has. I'm afraid it's something new because she's no longer 100% human. What if that's what it is? What if it's her android side that's making her ill?"

"That wouldn't make sense, Connor. She would've been feeling ill long ago if that were the case."

"But...after the baby..." Collin sighed.
