"Miss Iris, a word please?"
Iris and Alex gets stopped by Merrick, who calls out to them just as they were leaving their classes
"What is it?"
Iris politely asked, turning around. She knew that he would talk to her one day or another. Perhaps to demand her for information about Logan.
"Let's go somewhere more private."
He adds and they all then go into the same room as the other day
"So, what is it?"
"I know you don't want to talk to me since I know your real identity which by the way you should thank me for keeping it a secret."
He states, and continues before Iris could say anything,
"But I didn't call you for gratitude. You told me that you don't know anything about why your dad left. I want to believe you but I am having some difficulty to do so."
"You can believe me or not, I don't care. The truth is the truth."
Iris shrugs, keeping her expressions confident
"Well, if you are telling the truth then you would tell me that the day your father disappeared, the last time he set foot in this building, he went to the top floor straight to the chairman's office and stole a file. I don't like to bring up the past but we really need that file. Now, I fail to believe that he was in this alone. There must be someone helping him. So, naturally I checked all the security footage of that day and looked over everything in detail, and there was something that wasn't right. A girl. She was dressed in all black and was wearing a black mask and black cap. Her face isn't visible on the camera but I know that she helped him. Call it a hunch."
Iris's breath almost stops. Did he really found out? That she was the one who helped her dad get the USB by sneaking into the chairman's office. She meant to only copy the file but someone started coming and in a hurry to not get caught, she accidentally deleted the original file from the laptop, which is the reason they started coming after her father in the first place otherwise they would have never found that they made a copy of it. In order to fix her mistake, she has searched for her father during all the years he was gone.
"Do you know Lucy? She is after all your boss."
He adds, making both of them blink in surprise
"She was pretty close with Nick....I am guessing she might have helped him."
Oh no, he suspects Lucy. Iris panicked.
"No way. Lucy would never betray The Mercurial. She has been a part of it for a long time now and is the most loyal person I know."
Alex spoke up in her defence, startling the deep in thoughts Iris
"People can change. Nick was a board member yet he still turned out to be a traitor."
Her dad retorts, slightly shrugging his shoulders
"Why are you bringing up the past now? My dad is dead. Just leave it alone."
Iris remarks
"I am bringing this all up now because I recently discovered something. Something that shows the past is not what we thought it was. Tell me, is your dad really dead?"
"What do you mean? Dad died in a fire, a year after he disappeared."
Iris pretended to be oblivious, her plan was to keep Merrick as far as away as she can from the truth.
"He might have died, but that thing he stole is still out there. I'll be frank with you, I need that thing. And if you help me then you might even find a bit more about your father...."
