CHAPTER FIFTY-NINE

Meanwhile, Arthur and George denied access to banks and hotels for The Mercurial. This caused a whole new problem. But after things started settling down, finally the USB was leaked to the public. People were outraged about all that was hidden from them. And one by one all that were involved were caught and trials were held. One by one they all received their punishment. Rikky tried to run away but he soon was caught. Everything was falling exactly into place like they planned but what they did now know was that, Logan and Duncan were also taken to trial.

After coming back from the mountains, they all tried their very best to save both of them. Although Duncan could not be pardoned because of his crimes, Logan had that chance because he didn't actually do anything aside from assisting which was also him being undercover. Unfortunately they couldn't do anything and Duncan was jailed for 9 years while Logan was sentenced to prison for 7 years.

"We promise we will do anything in our power to help you."

"Just stay strong!"

Logan doesn't reply back even though he could hear them clearly. His eyes were focused on the handcuffs locking his wrists. An unreadable expression clouded his features. He looks at Duncan besides him who has the same look. And soon they were taken to jail.

THREE MONTHS LATER

Things were slowly becoming normal. Everyone was happy with the new Chief of Army and the interim government was over two months ago as Merrick became the next President. People were generally happy and the fate of the USB was no more. It was now as useless as a leaf fallen from the tree because now everything was out and there were no more secrets. There were a few people who did in fact manage to escape and they were still being chased. But all in all, finally the country has returned to its original position, they very reason for its name, it was now peaceful and moving towards success. This whole coup, if some would say, was overall successful as the majority of the public was with them.

Today Iris along with Lucas was going to meet Logan who was still in confinement. While Iris went to talk with Logan, Lucas went to Duncan because Duncan had no one to visit him and he felt bad for the guy whom he thought as a younger brother.

"So what's the status?"

Iris inquired on the phone which was connected with Logan who was on the other side of the glass.

"I am still working on it."

"It's been three months. Do you want to get out or not?"

Iris hissed. Logan and Duncan were given an offer to cut their sentence if they were to give the names of all the mafia leaders and their associates. Duncan took this opportunity and his sentenced was reduced to a year. Logan on the other hand was given another chance, he would be allowed to become a free man if only he were to find the location of the money that the one of the most wanted guy on earth had hidden. He was in the same jail as Logan so the intelligence agency had contacted him for his help but despite three months passing, no further development had been made as Logan was having difficulty bonding and making the guy spill out the site, after all he has been tortured for months to give the location but he didn't budge. Sadly, no one can kill him because he is the only one who knows about the hideout of the stolen money.

"I said, I am working on it. It's hard you know. That guy just made one of the inmates kill a security guard yesterday."

"Oh my god. Is he insane?"

"I think so."

"Have you at least managed to talk to him?"

"Somewhat. He doesn't want to kill me for now. So that's a good sign."

"Be careful."

"I will."

"So, how's it going?"

"I don't want to talk about it. Just imagine how's it like living here and then worsen that thought."

"Oh...."

Iris bit her lower lip, feeling helpless she didn't like Logan wearing inmates clothes and behind the glass. It wasn't fair. Rikky set him up.

"Anyhow, how's everyone doing?"

He added. They had a total of 40 minutes time to talk and they still had 30 minutes left.

"Well, everyone is doing well. Ella got engaged you know!"

"Oh! To her..."

"Yeah, Mark, her boyfriend. Who is technically now her fiancé."

She nodded while answering

"What about Luke then? Doesn't he like her?"

"Luke is fine I guess. He doesn't seem to have any problem with it. He's now a sports teacher at his high school, you know. Penelope is the female sports teacher over there."

"That's good. Though I thought..."

"That they both would end up together? Yeah me too. I was rooting for him as well but you can't really say and do anything because Mark is such a nice and sweet guy and Ella loves him so much and when you see those two together, they are a sweet couple."

"Yeah, guess they weren't meant to be."

"Yup. Though I get the feeling Luke is completely over her and likes Penelope. I am still not sure yet."

"I see. It's good if he's happy. Well apart from our friends love life, what's new?"

Iris giggles at Logan's question and replies,

"You know how Max loves to bake? Well he has opened his own bakery. It's going pretty well. Amelia has become a librarian. Alex finally managed to do what she wanted to which was to become a stunts woman. She's having fun. Henry has become a professional gamer and he is also soon going to launch a game he made. And Lucy has become the principal of the same high school where Luke works. And who else is left? Oh! Your brother has become a teacher at the drama acting institute. He came with me but he's meeting Duncan. Your mother couldn't come because of her wheelchair, while your dad and Lucy have vowed that they won't see you unless you're out of jail. They are working hard to trying to find a way. And...I guess that's about it?"

Iris explained, shrugging and smiling

"Oh. Everyone is moving on and having fun, it's great. What about you?"

"Me? I help mom at the café since Aunt Julie is busy with her job. I am still thinking about what to do next."

"I see. What else?"

"Nothing much."

"....Anything, talk to me about anything. It's been months since I last heard or saw you. There's still time."

Iris could feel the loneliness from his tone especially when he looked at her with that sad gaze.

"....are we still on for that date? Obviously right now we can't go but after you come out."

"Yeah if you are still interested."

"Of course I am interested. I like you, you know. I am waiting, that's why you better hurry up and find that place."

"I guess I must work harder now."

"You better."

They both chuckled and smiled

"Oh by the way! I was told that we are allowed to give you one thing as long as it's not a weapon or a medicine or any kind of drug. I asked your family if they wanted to pass something but they said no and told me I can give whatever I want. So I know it may be stupid, but I couldn't think of anything else so I sent that for you."

"Sent what?"

"Remember how you said you lost your sunglasses? Well you didn't lose them. I technically forgot to give them back to you. Although if there's anything else you'd like, I can send it to you."

"No, it's fine. Thanks for the sunglasses."

"No problem. Besides I figured seeing them would make you more motivated and give you strength to do that thing and get out of here quick. We are all waiting for you, you know. So please hurry up."

"I know, I can't wait to get out of here."
