(take this as a small uh- taste test? Of what's next because I'm unsure when I'll be posting the next chapter. There's funny I think. There's scary. There's what's about to happen. So yeah... Chapter appetizer.)
Riing... Riing... Riing...
"Hello?" Claire's voice says through the phone.
"Hey Claire!" (y/n) spoke into her phone, internally celebrating that she wasn't a subject of another fake number prank. "So, I was just wondering. Let's say you're crush has maybe, probably, most definitely has said on multiple occasions that he finds relationships weird and overly complicated... Is that a sign that I might be betting on the wrong horse right now?"
"...Oh boy..."
(y/n) has no idea why she agreed to this. Sure it was going to help.
But at what cost?
Her dignity. That's what.
"(y/n), we've been over this, just because Krel doesn't like eating the cafeteria food doesn't mean he doesn't like eating all together. We all have to eat. It just means he probably doesn't want to eat processed, questionable, bland, nasty canteen food. Which is honestly justified." Claire says with a sigh, probably for the third time since seeing Krel refuse to eat the school food with a upturned nose of disgust.
But you don't know how his body works, Claire.
(y/n) wanted to say so badly.
You're not an expert on Akiridion anatomy, Claire. You're not an extraterrestrial dietitian, CLAIRE.
"Okay... but what if he has... severe allergies?" (y/n) questioned further, hearing the girl on the other side of the phone sigh even louder away from the phone. Ah yes, allergies. The only thing to cover up the fact that (y/n) is afraid that human food might kill her Akiridion crush. Which she is certain when she is thinking properly again, maybe when it's not four A.M on a school day because she couldn't sleep, that her questions are completely irrational because (y/n) has seen Aja eat three Diablo Maximus' before from Stuart and then have the stomach to ask for extra hot sauce next time and walk away without having her insides plan a rebellion against the brain that had self sabotaged them so like so many humans have. Krel probably can do the absolute same, so why would (y/n) think that Krel might die from eating a slightly warm, slightly squished peanut butter and jelly sandwich if an Akiridion can completely eliminate any stomach sickening attributes in a meal the second it enters their body? Hell, Aja could eat a tire and be fine. It wouldn't taste good, but she'd be fine... "what were we talking about again?"
"You're silly idea that Krel will hate you for giving him packed lunch today at school because you think he doesn't eat?" Claire answered (y/n)'s out loud question. Oh yeah, that's right. Okay maybe she does sound a bit over dramatic.
(y/n) couldn't blame herself for being this way. Not completely at least. She never was this panicky when she realized she might have liked Jim during their middle school days, but then again, Jim is a human (...cough...). Someone like her...
Krel was an Akiridion King-in-Waiting from a planet thousands of light years away, who has currently been on Earth for less than two months, is currently being hunted down by interplanetary assassins by order of the alien equivalent of a genocidal tyrant who wants two sixteen year olds and their already injured parents dead, is earthbound to this planet because the ship he and his remaining family escaped in is damaged with no easily accessible equipment to fix it right away, has had to pretend to be human to avoid the risk of human authorities snooping their noses into their business, all the while having fought off currently counting not one, not two, but four different bounty hunters on multiple occasions and miraculously not having a single human figure it out. So maybe there might not be many similarities between Jim and Krel on a Venn diagram that could help her right now.
(y/n) felt the need to talk to Claire at least twice a day about the growing feelings in her chest that she was getting worried might not be reciprocated or be misunderstood as something else, and it was kind of helping. Sure, Claire was thinking (y/n) was just afraid to get her heart broken again and therefore needed support or advice before getting back into the 'love game' and was completely unaware that it was because Krel was literally not just an alien but an alien royal in exile, but it was still helpful advice.
"I'd say just get it out of the way." Claire finally suggested suddenly.
"What? The packed lunch?"
"No, not the packed lunch— telling Krel about your feelings!" Claire specified, making (y/n) snap up off her bed. What? How in the world would she do that? Hey Krel, nice to see you again, what are you doing? Oh, fixing the mothership's Daxial Array like you always are so you can finally leave this planet you constantly call a dump and get away from the dangerous killers trying to end your existence and your whole family's existence too? That's great, hey I just wanted to say that I have been secretly crushing on you the entire time you've been here and daydreaming weird scenarios of us together during algebra class and I was wondering if you're free after escaping the deadly grasps of a crazy psychopath that wants to take over your entire home planet planet, you'd like to go on a date with me. Yeah that will unfold in a great way. "(y/n), you will never know what will happen if you keep hiding your feelings. Look, I'll show you." Claire continued, suddenly pulling the phone away from her ear and dialing something else in. Suddenly, the one to one conversation they were having became a group call.
"Hey Claire Bear! What's up?" Mary's cheery voice spoke, making (y/n) stammer silently.
"Hey Mary, listen, (y/n) needs some dating advise because she has a crush on one of the new kids at our school. Remember Krel Tarron? Yeah, him." Claire informed the girl that was now apart of their conversation. Claire seemed determined to help (y/n) but did she really have to do that by telling the most gossipy, most internet influential, and over the top girl in Arcadia? I guess if you need advice, get it from someone who knows a thing or two about dating.
Next thing Claire and (y/n) know, Mary was squealing over the phone like a fire alarm. Practically breaking the sound barrier with her excitement. (y/n) knew she was in this now, no turning back, like a fly landing on a glue trap. "Eeeeee! I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! Staja AND (your ship name) is real!" Mary giggled in a sing song voice. It was flattering? Humiliating? It was hard to tell. Like how it feels when a group of people are singing happy birthday to you and you have to just sit down and do nothing but wait for them to finish singing.
"Okay yeah, really cute, okay, anyways," Claire brought them back on track with the purpose of this phone call, "I told (y/n) that the best thing she can do is just tell Krel about her feelings. What do you think?" She asked, going quiet so that Mary can share her thoughts and hopefully convince (y/n) to stop being a little wuss puss and just get it off her chest.
Mary hummed in thought to herself, for a second before speaking. "The worst he can do is say no, yeah? So I don't see why it would be a bad idea." Mary says, and (y/n) could feel the smug 'I told you so' vibes from Claire's silence through the phone. "If it is a crush or something else entirely, you'll still get your answer."
"Why does everyone say that? Oh, the worst thing he could do is say no, obviously you guys don't know what worst thing someone can do actually is." (y/n) badgered with a terrible mocking impersonation. The worst thing he could do— it's clear as day that literally none of had the misfortune of being laughed at once in their life. "Do you know what the worst thing he could do actually is? Anything! The possibilities of what he might do is endless! If I don't know how he feels about me, how will I be prepared to take his response?"
A pause of silence falls between them. And (y/n) fears she might have completely ruined the mood or just killed any possible chance of conversation ever again. Until Mary suddenly speaks again. "Geez (y/n), he's just a boy, not a wild animal. Hang on, let me do something really quick." Mary says as she also pulls away from the phone.
"You know, Krel is a very good person. I know you already knew that, but still. He let Seamus win against him during the math duel. And he seems to really like hanging out with you along with Aja." Claire informed (y/n), which helped ease her nerves. Finally Mary came back.
"Alright, Darci? Can you hear us?" Mary called out.
Suddenly Darci replied, added to the now group call it seemed. "Yep, what's up?"
"Oh good god, I really don't need-"
"So (y/n) is afraid to tell Karl that she has a crush on him because she doesn't know how he'll respond." Mary explained the whole situation swiftly, letting her know just the important parts of this whole situation so that Darci can answer.
"His name is Krel-" Claire and (y/n) say at the same time, but they stop.
"Talk your talk, Darci." Mary gave the floor to her friend. Darci was always able to set things straight quickly. Straight forward answers, take them or leave them, then you move on. So (y/n) prepared for what Darci was gonna say.
"Afraid? Your afraid of what a teenage boy will say when you tell him about your feelings?" Darci asked incredulously. The (your hair color) girl kept silent, knowing that she was caught right on a net. Darci sighed and answered honestly. "Look, if you're afraid of what someone will say to you, especially some guy, maybe you should start looking closer at their character not yours. Krel seems like someone who wouldn't ruin someone's life simply because they had a crush on him. But if he did, then he isn't worth your time anyways." Darci stated firmly, making (y/n) feel even more guilty. She knew Krel wouldn't do anything crazy or bad if she confessed her feelings to her, he wasn't that kind of person. Krel was a King-in-Waiting, he was most definitely taught how to be polite beneath that snarky and witty attitude he had. "So does Krel seem like the kind of guy to cross the line in rejecting you if you told him about your feelings?" Darci questioned the girl they were trying to help with her conflicting feelings.
"...No." (y/n) answered softly.
"Then you should go and tell him. He says no, oh well you tried. He says yes, happy day for everybody." Darci concluded directly. That was three out of three girls recommending to just go for it. That she had nothing to lose if she did just ask Krel. But (y/n) wasn't sure if the time was right to drop a question like that... she was gonna really need to think about this...
At the outdoor theater, in the dead of night, the Zerons stood out in the middle of the pavement. A cemetery of cars surrounded them with their ship landed behind an old torn down board as always. Zeron Alpha and Zeron Omega stood solemnly by each other, as Omega pulled out a device that created a holographic replica of their fallen brother; Zeron Beta. The feline like Zeron's glowing orange form laid on the ground motionless, arms crossed over his chest as the two remaining bounty hunters watched in solemn silent as the hologram of their dead kin rises into the air, his figure bright against the dark and starless night sky.
"You fought with valor, brother." Alpha spoke lowly with a steady voice, watching the fallen Zeron reach a point in the air before pulling out his weapon. Alpha aimed his orange glowing serrator into the sky, and fired at the hologram of Beta. The ionic bullet cleaves through the air smoothly, colliding with the hologram and creating a burst of beautiful orange light to explode in the sky, like a ring of fire that shimmered the brightened the place for a moment before disappearing.
Omega took off her mask, staring up at the sky where the lights dissipate leaving the sky and their hideout dark once again. The glow of her menacing narrowed yellow eyes showed the swirling emotions that neither she or Alpha display on her faces. Looks of melancholy, respect, and anger. "And your death will not be in vain." Omega swore.
"In due time..." Alpha began, walking by Omega's side as they returned to the dreadnought ship. Looks of malicious planning and intentions fill their eyes and a determined step in their strides.* "...we will have our revenge." He declared. The Akiridion royals will feel their pain. Because they are not going to let this slide. They will pay for this. They will remind the royals who they are dealing with, and show them what it means to have something truly torn away from them.
And what better way to do so than by taking away their little human pet.
