You and the guys were very frustrated. Six more attacks had happened and only one out of the six had survived. Still, you weren't any closer to figuring this out. It had been a week now. You never had time to focus on one attack because another always happened right afterward.
You were sitting with Gavin in the Cafe. You needed to vent to somebody who couldn't exactly vent back to you about how frustrating the case was. Luckily, Gavin was willing to listen to you vent. He understood all too well how much venting could help somebody afterward as long as they didn't take their rant too far.
"I just don't understand! How can we not find anything!?" You said.
"You'll get it soon, (Y/n). If any team here can figure this out, it's the three of you. You think I'd be able to figure it out? I barely care enough to get off my own ass." He said, inserting a joke into the conversation to try to make you feel better or at least crack a grin. He was successful in making you grin.
"*Sigh* Thanks, Gav, but...I just...I don't want anybody else to get hurt. We've already lost 6 and the last one of all them is still being fixed. He got extremely lucky that he didn't lose his memory."
"I know, but at least you have one survivor. Once he's fixed you can ask him what happened. He might be your best bet now." Gavin pointed out. You sighed, holding your cup of coffee in place on the table as you stared at it.
"I hope you're right. I really hope so." You said before taking another swallow.
"It'll be fine. Trust me. I might be a dick at times, but since I'm still under the friend label it is my job to remind you that you don't go down easy and your more stubborn than a mule. You'll get this, (Y/n)." You chuckled at him.
"Nice to hear you finally admit it, Gav." You said.
"Hey, I can call myself an asshole, but you hold off okay? I got enough people calling me that anyway." He said with a grin. You laughed.
"Gavin, you're such an idiot!"
"Me the idiot? Well, I can't say I'm your idiot, you already have one of those." He said, raising his cup to take another sip of his own drink.
"Oh, shut the fuck up!" You said, glaring at him with a grin on your face. He chuckled to himself, amused by your reactions.
"Just doin' my job." He told you. You rolled your eyes.
"Sure thing, Gav. Sure thing." You both finished your drinks before getting up and walking back over to Gavin's desk. You leaned up against it as he sat down.
"So, if you don't mind, I was wondering if you were gonna be able to get out of the house on Friday night this weak. Buddy of mine is throwing a party and I thought you could do with some more fun social interaction." Gavin said. You thought about it and shrugged.
"I don't know. I haven't exactly been a fan of parties since...yeah." You said. Gavin's gaze softened.
"Oh, right. Uh, sorry, I didn't mean to bring that up."
"It's not your fault. I just...ever since my brother...it doesn't exactly bring good memories." You told him.
"No, no, I get that. If you don't wanna go, I get it." He said. You grinned a bit.
"Should I dress nice, or should I dress for drinks on my clothes?" You asked. He grinned.
"I'd dress for drinks, but that's up to you, heh." He replied. You smiled.
"Count me in. Although, you mind if I bring a guest? He needs to live a bit more too."
"Uhhh...I'm not sure if my buddy is cool with androids. I'd have to ask him." You nodded.
"Right, right. Well, if he isn't I'll just ask Connor if he could stay home and keep an eye on the place and the pets. I'm sure he'll be alright." Gavin smiled.
"Well then, I'll see you there." He said. You smiled.
"Promise me you won't get drunk until after I'm there to watch you." You told him. He rolled his eyes.
"No promises, (Y/n), but I'll try." He replied. Suddenly, Hank shouted for you.
"(Y/n)! We got another call! We've got eyes on a guy that matches the description from before!" You stood up straight and you and Gavin both looked at each other quickly.
"Well? Go, go! Don't stick around talking to me! Go catch that ass!" Gavin said. You smiled.
"Talk to later, Gav!" You called. He waved as you hurried over to Hank and Connor and the three of you set out. Hank drove you all to an old factory. It looked abandoned and it would've been perfect for a hideout.
"This is the place they said he went into," Hank said.
"We should be careful. We don't know what we're getting into." You said. The two of them nodded and you all headed inside.
"What's our first move?" Hank asked quietly as you all looked around.
"Wait for any signs that somebody is here. Let's not make ourselves known yet." You said.
"Agreed," Connor added. You all began to look around. There were a lot of rooms. You thought about splitting up, but you decided against it. More eyes in one area would be better, plus there was less risk.
As you all looked around, you didn't find much. It looked normal and it seemed as if there was nothing there at all. You sighed, relaxing again.
"I think it was a false lead, guys." You said. Hank put his own gun away. You'd had them out to be safe, but there really wasn't anything to be safe from.
"Think we should head out, then?" Hank asked. You nodded.
"Yeah, come on let's go." You lead the way out of the building, but as soon as you got outside, you noticed that Connor was no longer behind the two of you. Hank noticed too.
"Hey, Connor! Come on!" Hank called. No answer. You both looked at each other before you heard a gunshot. You both looked up and heard another shot come from the second floor.
"Connor!!" You yelled, bolting back inside with Hank hot on your heels. You rushed up to the second floor and you looked around. Your heart was racing as you prayed Connor hadn't been shot. "Connor!" You called. You heard a crash coming from the room down the hall. You ran down the hallway and dashed into the room. You saw somebody run out of another door and you saw Connor against the wall, dazed. "Connor! Are you alright!?" You asked.
"I-I'm fine. We've gotta catch him!" He said. You looked toward the door. Connor took off before you could react. Hank came into the room and looked to you as Connor disappeared.
"What the fuck is going on!?"
"Connor found him and he's going after him! I gotta catch up to them!" You said and ran after Connor.
"(Y/n)! Hey! Wait!" Hank called, but you didn't listen. You ran through rooms and leaped over old dusty desks and other obstacles as you chased after Connor and the man.
You lost them after a few minutes into the chase. Damn it, where'd they go? You looked around, searching for anything to identify their path. You saw a few specks of blue blood on a railing that was on the walls surrounding the stairs up to the next floor. You hurried up the stairs and kept on the trail.
You made it to the third floor and you saw the neither of them were anywhere on the floor. You listened for anything and looked around for another hint, but there was none. Shit! You cursed to yourself. You wondered if they could be on the roof. You knew that if you went that way they'd be expecting you. But what's another way can I get onto the roof?
Then, you remembered seeing a fire escape on the second floor. You looked around for the one on this floor. You spotted it. You hurried over to the big rusted metal door that marked the fire escape. It was blocked off by an old collapsed bookshelf and the roof had also caved in there, blocking it with metal beams and debris. You tried to push the boards out of the way, but they were too heavy for you. You slammed your hands against the boards angrily and hurried back down to level two.
You ran into Hank again and you saw he was struggling to catch his breath. You stopped for a second to make sure he was okay. He looked up at you.
"What the hell, (Y/n)? W-what's going on?" He asked.
"They're on the roof, but I need to take the fire escape to get to them. You stay here. I won't be long, okay?" You told him before taking off again.
"(Y/n)! Wait for a second-!" His voice cut off as you hurried off. You made it to the fire escape on the second level and quickly rushed out to it. You shrieked as you almost ran off the edge of it. The railing had rusted and fallen off of this platform. You carefully made your way up the stairs and to the roof.
You grabbed your gun and clasped it tightly in your grip. You peeked over the edge and saw Connor and the man you were after. The guy now had Connor's gun. You didn't know how he was able to get it, but that much didn't matter.
"Fuckin' defective piece of plastic!" The man yelled at him.
"Why are you doing this!?" Connor shouted. Neither of them knew you were there.
"Why? Ha! Are you really that stupid? You plastics shits were never supposed to win anything! You all murdered humans! Turning against us when we made you! Androids are supposed to obey! Deviants...they'll all pay the price for turning against their rightful owners. I've already taken out a few and I'm not finished yet." You heard the gun click, signaling that he was ready to fire it. "Unfortunately...you and your team have been in the way for a while now." He chuckled. "It's time you learned your place, Detective." You couldn't waste any more time. You rushed out to protect Connor.
"Connor, get down!" You shouted. You raised your arm to take aim at your attacker. Connor looked shocked as you rushed in to help him. You put your finger on the trigger as you got in front of Connor.
"(Y/n), don't!" You were about to fire, but the man beat you to it. The gunshot sounded and you swore the world went silent in that moment. It felt like something had just punched a hole straight through your chest. Time slowed down as you still felt the shock of the hit. You got the wind knocked out of you as you hit the ground. After that, everything went blurry and you could hardly hear anything. It felt like your chest was collapsing. It was hard to breathe. The throbbing pain in your chest caused the tears to come out. In all of this, you felt alone. Nobody was there. You couldn't hear or see anyone. The pain and lack of air were too much. You couldn't focus.
Then, amidst it all, you heard a voice. It was a voice you knew. They were yelling and you felt them trying to call you out of the haze you'd fallen under. They were trying to help you. They were trying to save you, but then again...you'd always been a hard person to reach. As always, now was no different. But...for some reason...their voice was enough. It gave you one final push. You finally had a reason to fight again.
