Later that night, Barry brought Emey over to his lab. As the two were silent, Joe entered the lab. He noticed the tension between the two, so he decided to break it.
"Hungry?" Emely looked at to find Joe
"Pizza." Emely grabbed a box.
"Pepperoni, olives and jalapeños. Just like you like it." Barry grabbed another box and grabbed a slice.
"Oh and Emely, I have something for you." Joe handed her a box.
"I talked to the Captain." Emely opened it and saw a badge, a gun and a police uniform.
"On behalf of CCPD, I welcome you to the task force. On behalf of me, you're gunna go with Barry and capture those meta-humans." Emely ran to the older man and hugged him.
"Thank you!" The older man returned the hug.
Joe let go and walked over to Barry's blackboard.
"You were wrong." Emely put the box down and covered it.
"I was wrong a lot this week. You need be more specific." Joe looked at Barry.
"You said that one of the things driving you to run around with Emely was that you couldn't help your dad." Joe pulled up the map to reveal newspaper clippings, post-it notes, and lines from one clipping to another.
"Barry, you did this?" Barry nodded.
"You can help him. We can help him." Joe looked from Barry to Emely.
"We're gunna find out who or what killed your mother that night, and then we're gunna get your father out of prison. Together." Barry nodded and Emely sighed
"Joe, I need to apologize for what I said to you." Joe shook his head.
"I know I'm not his father. You don't need to apologize." Emely nodded.
"I do, though. You the man who kept him fed when he was hungry, who provided him with clothes, who probably sat beside him in his bed at night until he fell asleep when he was afraid of the dark, helped him with his homework. You probably ended up teaching him how to drive and shave and when he went to college, you probably dropped him off. That sounds a lot like a dad to me. And you know what's funny? You became like a dad to me. You know that I've never had a father figure in my life, but I like to think of you as my father." Joe smiled sadly at Emely.
"And I consider you like a daughter to me." Emely walked toward Joe and hugged him, tears streaming down both of their faces.
Barry was surprised to hear that Emely didn't have a father figure in her life.
"You didn't have a father?" Emely let go of Joe to face Barry.
"Yeah, my parents left me when I was 7, so I spent my teen years with my aunt. I met Rachel and Alexis during high school." Barry nodded.
"Who's Rachel and Alexis?" Joe grabbed a slice of pizza.
"My two best friends. Barry spoke to them and they kept embarrassing us." Joe smiled.
"How did they embarrass you?" Emely sighed.
"They were asking me who this 'cute guy' was that I met. Then they told Barry what shows I liked to watch and then they threatened Barry not to hurt me. They also said that Barry sounded like a cute name and that his voice sounded hot. There was a lot of blushing. Oh, and they said we could make Bemely babies." By the end of it, Joe was laughing.
"That sounded like it was good time." Emely shook her head.
"Emely thinks I'm cute." Barry smiled.
