Chapter 10 - Jethro's Lie

 Blake laughed, “Glad to know you still haven’t change.”  When he saw I narrowed my eyes at him, he raised his hands and said, “Ok. I’ll stop.  It’s just that I am not used to seeing you like this.  I didn’t realize that behind those loose shirts and jeans, there is an attractive girl hiding.”

 He started the car and we went out the parking lot.  Few blocks away from my building, I spoke, “Do you think Jethro will approve?”

 “So now you admit, these are all because of Jethro?”

 “Um… yeah.  Am I being desperate?”

 “Not at all.  The transformation is good, but don’t you think it would be better if you do all these for yourself and not because of some guy? Besides, if a guy really likes you, he will like you for who you really are.”

 “I like this new me Blake.  Actually, this is the real me.  I really am not the simple Cassie that you used to know but I’m not ready to talk about it yet; some other time perhaps.”

 “Alright. If that’s what you want.... We’re here, what do you wanna eat?”

 “Chicken wings, burger, and fries.”

 “Wow… you’re really hungry huh?!”

 “Yup!” We got out of the car then I followed Blake going to Buffalo Wings n’ Things.  We really love to dine here not only for the food but because of its casual atmosphere.  While waiting for our order, Blake asked me if Aubrey texted me today. 

 “Yeah.  How about you?”

 “She called me this morning.  Said that she's on her way to Baguio.  She said that she might stay there until the summer ends.”

 “And that’s okay with you?  Aren’t you going to follow her?”

 “You know how Aubrey is.  She’ll get mad if I tried to ruin her plans for summer.  I’d rather stay here.  Why?  Don’t you wanna hang out with me?  Do you have other plans?”

“No.  It’s okay.  As if I have a choice.”

 “Haha… funny!”

 We stopped talking as soon as our food came.  While I am devouring the chicken wings with my bare hands, I saw something that made me lose my appetite… actually, it’s not something...  It’s someone.   Blake noticed my sudden change of mood.   When he looked outside, he saw Jethro with his hands wrapped around Joanne.  Yes, Joanne, his ex-girlfriend three years ago.  They were about to enter Italliani’s, the restaurant across where we’re eating.

 “Are you alright?”  Blake asked me with concern

 “Yeah.  I guess.”  And then after a few seconds, I stood up and said, “Fudge, you stay here!”

 I went to the washroom to wash my hands and retouch my makeup.  I dialed Jethro’s number on my phone.  After a few rings, he answered.

 “Yes?”

 “Can we talk?  Now. I’ll meet you outside Italliani’s.” and then I ended the call.  I waited outside the restaurant and Jethro got out a few minutes after.

 “Are you stalking me?”  Jethro asked me, irritated.

 “Excuse me?  If you were paying attention to my text this morning, you'll know that Blake and I will have our lunch here today.... Is this the “stuff” that you’re doing?  Having a lunch date with your ex-girlfriend who cheated on you?”

 “Why do you care?  The last time I’ve checked, we are not together..."  his voice became louder.  "Oh, right.  I remember… we’ve kissed last night...  Well, news flash... I did more than just a kiss to a lot of girls, and it did not make me want to be with them after.  What made you think that I will change for you?”

I was stunned.  I didn't expect him to say that.  But I couldn't let him see I'm hurting, so I said,  “Maybe I was stupid… so stupid to think that I was your friend and you will not risk losing our friendship by treating me like one of the sluts you’ve dated.”  and then I walked-away.  Blake found me outside his car.  He opened the car, and as soon as I entered, I cried. 

 “I was so stupid Blake.  Why did I ever think that he will change for me?”

 Blake hugged me tight.  “Ssshhh… It’s not your fault Cassie.  It’s not your fault that you liked Jethro, and you fall for his shit!”

 “I wish the pain will go away.”  I didn’t know how long I’ve cried.  Last thing I remembered is feeling like my heart tear apart, succumbing myself into darkness.
