Damian got pushed around. A lot. By a lot of people. Now just because he got pushed around don't mean he didn't fight back... but lately he hadn't been.
He hadn't called someone a name back when they called him one. He hadn't insulted someone back when they insulted him. He hadn't made fun of someone back when they made fun of him. He hadn't hit someone back when they hit him.
He got tired. Tired of it all, so he stopped retailing, thinking that maybe they'd stop. But no, it just egged them on further knowing Damian wouldn't hurt them back.
Even if nothing hurtful was being said or done, he was neglected.
Damian sat staring out at Gotham city from atop a building, listening to his best friend go on about something that had happened at school.
"But I really don't understand why he had to bring Alex in too, Alex has his own girlfriend but now they have a patchy relationship because of what happened. But honestly I think his girlfriend; Amy by the way, could do a lot better than Alex. Even before the issue he was doing some shady stuff, oh and plus one of my friends likes Amy, but she's scared because we're all sure Amy's straight but I mean I really have no clue-," Jon paused and glanced at him friend.
"Hey, are you okay?" He asked.
"I'm fine. Why do you ask?" Damian replied, keeping his gaze forward. Jon frowned.
"You seem off. Not just tonight but I've noticed you've been a lot quieter lately. Is everything okay?" Jon was worried now that he thought back on it.
"I have been? I supposed I'm just tired." Damian lied. He was absolutely exhausted and of course he'd grown quieter because of certain people.
"A-Are you sure?" Jon asked.
"I am sure Jon." Damian lied again. Jon eyed the other's hands as they fidgeted. Someone was wrong. Damian didn't fidget unless he was lying.
"You're fidgeting." Jon pointed out. Damian looked down at his hands in his lap.
"Oh I hadn't noticed. I'll stop." He forced his hands still.
"What is going on with you?" Jon asked.
"I haven't a clue what you're talking about." Damian mumbled, pulling his knees to his chest.
Jon knew that position. Damian was starting to close off and try to silently cope with something.
"Yes you do, you've got your knees pulled to your chest." Jon pointed out again.
"Oh-,"
"You hadn't noticed?" Jon cut him off. Damian was quiet. "Look Damian," Jon shifted so he was fully facing his best friend. That's when he noticed.
Silent tears were running down the smaller's cheeks.
Jon had never, in their three years of knowing each other, seen Damian Wayne cry. It scared him a little, especially because he wasn't sure why the other was upset. Jon couldn't believe he hadn't noticed until he'd actually looked at Damian's face.
