Damian's pov

"Ladies and gents, here are your English tests from last week. Almost everybody got above eighty percent, so good job." The teacher announced as she began dispersing tests.

"Once you get yours, you may leave, have a good weekend!"

Damian waited patiently for his test and ended up not even getting it. The teacher stood before his desk a blank expression on her face.

"Mister Wayne, once you've packed your things please come see me." She said.

"Yes Mrs." Damian said politely before gathering his things and exiting the room.

On the way to his locker, he wondered what she'd want to talk to him about. He thought back and couldn't think of a disruption he'd caused recently. The thought crossed his mind that maybe he'd gotten a bad grade.

Damian shook his head. Don't be foolish. You don't fail, she probably just wants to put you in a higher class because you've been doing so well! He told himself.

He focused on getting to his locker before the school's end-of-the-week-end-of-the-day rush swept him up.

The Arabic boy quickly gathered his things and headed back to the classroom. He entered and found no one but the teacher in the room.

She sat at her desk. Damain cleared his throat and she glanced up.

"Oh Mister Wayne," She greeted. "Come," She motioned him over and pulled out a paper.

Damian strolled over cautiously. "Is there a problem Mrs?" He asked as he stood before her desk, trying not to fidget with his jacket zipper.

"Damian, you are a very bright boy, excelling in all of your classes." She started. Oh no, a compliment. This can't be good.

"Now I understand from something your Father has said to me, that English isn't your first language. Is that right?" She asked. Damian nodded.

"Correct. My first language is Arabic." He said. The teacher nodded.

"Now I do not mean to alarm you Damian, but your grades have been dropping. Were you aware?" She asked.

Damian hated this. She was giving him that same patronizing look like he was an idiot. Damian had been given that look before and he absolutely despised the look.

He clenched his fists.

"I was not ware." He answered truthfully. The teacher hummed and pulled out a sheet.

"That would explain it." She murmured. "Here you can see your grades at the beginning of the year at its highest point at a B minus." She trailed her finger across the page and Damian watched, feeling overwhelmed with shame.

He'd never gotten anything lower than an A+ in any school subject... except for English.

He'd always struggled with English. He figured it was because as the teacher pointed out, his first language was Arabic. But still, he'd never gotten something so low.
