3rd person pov

Wayne Manor was quiet, oddly enough.

Maybe it was quiet because Alfred Pennyworth was on a short vacation in England.

Maybe it was quiet because Bruce Wayne was out on a mission as Batman.

Maybe it was quiet because Dick Grayson was out on a date.

Maybe it was quiet because Jason Todd was out with his friends, Kori and Roy.

Maybe it was quiet because Tim Drake was asleep for once.

Maybe it was quiet because Damian and Jon were tuckered out from a long day's worth of school and a long night's worth of patrol.

The two laid on their backs in their pjs, looking up to Damian's ceiling. Their fingers were interlocked and their breathing was soft. Even though they were tired, neither was ready to shut their eyes just yet.

A question crossed Jon's mind and before he could stop himself, he blurted it out.

"Dami, do you think we'll always be together?" He asked softly.

Damian was quiet for a minute.

"I'm not sure Jon. I'd hope so but there's no guarantee." He responded. Jon frowned.

"What if we do stay together?" He said.

"In the sense of...?" Damian trailed off, waiting for his lover to finish.

"Like, when we're older. Do you think we'd get married?" Jon said. Damian chuckled softly.

"Well the world is against us in that sense. I'd hope by the time we get to the age gay marriage would be legalized." The Arabic male said sadly.

"We can move to Canada and get married then." Jon said. Damian laughed. Jon smiled and felt his heart thump. He loved Damian's laugh and wished he could hear it more often.

"Sounds lovely." Damian replied quietly. Jon noticed his change of tone. He rolled into his side to fully see his lover.

Damian's eyes were closed and his face appeared blank, only the slightest bit of worry present. But Jon being Jon could detect that worry.

He lifted his hand that was interlocked with Damian's to his lips and kissed the back of Damian's hand. Damian opened his eyes and glanced over to see his boyfriend smiling at him.

"What's wrong Dami?" Jon asked. Damian avoided eye contact, looking back to the ceiling. "Damian, what's bothering you?" He asked again.

"It's silly really." Damian said.

"No, no, I'm sure it's not. Tell me." Jon pressed.

Damian sighed. "Jon, do you still want to be the next Superman?" He asked. Jon pursed his lips. He fell onto his back once again.

"I actually don't know anymore. I mean, I sorta do, but at the same time, how am I supposed to live up to his legacy? He's the Superman." Jon said.

"Oh..." Damian said.

"Why? You don't want to be Batman?" Jon guessed. 

"Yeah. It's the same thing really, I do but I don't want to have to live up to his legacy. I want to be my own person, create my own future." Damian admitted.

Jon smiled.

"Would you ever give up being a hero? Maybe settle down with a family? Get a job? Have kids?" He asked.

"I've considered it. Pursuing my interests in art, perhaps settling down with a family if I find the right guy. If it isn't you." Damian said. Jon nodded.

"Sounds nice. I'd do the same but I'm not sure what career I'd want to pursue." Jon said.

"You'll find something beloved. I'm sure you will." Damian assured him.

Jon smiled fondly. "Thanks for talking with me Dami. I really appreciate it."

Damian rolled over so he was cuddled into Jon's side. "No problem beloved."

Jon twisted so he was facing Damian who buried his face in Jon's shirt. His free hand pulled the blanket up over the two before wrapping around Damian.

Damian pressed a quick kiss to Jon's cheek before Jon returned a kiss to his forehead. The two quickly drifted off into a peaceful slumber, holding each other close.

Maybe one day they'd wake up in the same positions as husbands with kids, a house and jobs of their own.
