The Element - Loki / Avengers x Reader

The team returned to the tower in the Quinn jet. They touched down on the roof and were soon marching back into the building to get to Tony's office to begin their attempts to track Loki and Y/N.

The flight back was filled with silence which still somehow echoed through the jet. Each looked at each other with the same face. Fear and worry. And even a sense of guilt. They each felt they had let the team down.

"Jarvis , pull up Loki and Y/N's trackers" Tony couldn't sit still , and was pacing the room.
"Of course sir" Jarvis replied.
Bruce brought up the screen in front of the rest of the team which Jarvis began projecting onto.
A map appeared and opened up the hydra base that they had just come from.
"Update  the feed Jarvis that's where we just were" Tony ordered.
The screen re loaded, it refreshed. The points from the trackers stayed the same.
"We saw them leave they're not still there" Steve looked up.
"They must have found them in the suits and tore them out" Nat replied.
"That's not possible. They're built into the fibres of the suit. There's more than one" Tony walked up to the screen. Examining it closer.
"Does this mean they took their suits off of them?" Thor asked. He wasn't good with technology so he wasn't sure what to expect. It wasn't a completely stupid question though.
"No, the trackers are smaller than a grain of rice. There's several planted randomly in the fibres." Tony replied.
"I see, to prevent them from finding it and tearing it out? That's good" Clint nodded , of course he knew that it wasn't good because the team were no closer to an answer.

"Would they have failed ? Maybe they switched off?" Steve asked.
"Yeah if they switch off or fail they'll show the last active place. Jarvis can you reach the security cameras for that side of the perimeter ?" Bruce may have been onto something.
"Yes sir one moment" he replied.

The screen began to flicker and Jarvis brought up the footage of the ambush from earlier on.

The team watched. They saw the moment the first explosive went off. Then the second. Then the gas, then the rest.
"Jarvis pause there for a second" Tony stepped closer to the monitor to see what some of the gentleman were holding. He saw they had the same sticks of electricity that they had used on Y/N that night in the park.
"Dammit!" Tony slammed his fist in the desk.
"What is it?" Bruce asked cautiously.
"Those sticks. If they shocked them at a certain voltage it would have cancelled out the trackers" there was a mutual groan of disappointment in the room.

They knew that it wasn't going to be easy to find them. They were prepared to do everything they could to get them both back home.

They sat in silence for a few minutes.

"Tony..."Nat stood and walked over to him and put her hand on his shoulder. "You need to tell Fury. He might be able to help. He might have a lead he..."
Tony put his hand up to stop her. "Yes... I will go call him now" he left the room and went downstairs to his workshop.

He wished Pepper was here right now to comfort him. She was still on a business trip with her team in California for at least another few weeks. They'd video call from time to time but it wasn't the same. Tony missed her and needed her support.

He sighed and slouched on the chair running his hands through his hair with frustration. He picked up a cup of coffee from the table in front of him, went to drink it, stopped, then launched it across the room with a yell.
He was trying to hold back tears but they came anyway.
He felt responsible. It wasn't his fault that Y/N had been kidnapped but he felt it was.
He caught his breathe and began to dial the number to speak to Director Fury to make a plan to rescue the both of them. Time was not on their side and they needed to act quick.

Back upstairs, the team dispersed from the office and went their separate ways in the tower. Thor was worried and upset so went to the training rooms with Steve to let off steam. Bruce continued to tinker in the lab and study the security footage carefully with Clint to see if there were any number plates or faces they could recognise and run through the computers.
Nat went to the kitchen to order food. She knew no one would want to eat but it was something to do , something to break her cycle of worrying, so she ordered anyway.

"You're telling me two of your team were taken by Hydra? How the hell did that happen Tony !?" Fury was shouting.
"Hey it's not my damn fault your team of shield agents took their sweet god damn time getting to the base! If they got off their rockers my team would have all come home!" Tony argued.

Tony and Fury both had short fuses. Tony wasn't as scary as an angry Nick though.

Nick sighed and remained calm. "I'm sorry Tony. We didn't plan for there to be a secondary attack on the base. The shield team swept the area before you got there. There shouldn't have been any outsiders"
"I know there shouldn't have, that's why I put Y/N and Loki on the perimeter because I knew there wouldn't be any one outside it !" He replied.
"Do we have any traces on their whereabouts?" Nick asked.
Tony replied and explained that the trackers had failed and possibly due to the electricity shock sticks. "We may not have a tracker on them right now but banner and Clint are working through security footage now to see if they can find any traces of where they might have been taken to. We're also looking at ways to get the trackers back online" Tony couldn't look at Fury.

He knew it wasn't his fault but he wanted him to take some sort of responsibility for what had happened. He thought that the safest place for Y/N would be on the perimeter due to shield already sweeping the base. He didn't think that shield knew about this second attack and were in the dark just like him and his team.

Hydra knew. They knew that Tony would put them both on the outside where it would be easier. They knew he wouldn't want to risk them injury. And they knew that both Loki and Y/N were alone, away from the team , and vulnerable.

"We'll touch base again tomorrow. Get some sleep Tony. This is going to be one hell of a fight. You and I both know hydra bases aren't easy to infiltrate. I'll get a team of my best agents together to start looking at some of the known bases." Despite him being scary at times, he knew how much Tony cared for Y/N and was sympathetic.
"Thanks Nick. Talk tomorrow" Tony ended the call and sighed.

"Jarvis tell the guys to come and get some food. Whether they're hungry or not" Nat asked.
"Yes Miss Romanoff" Jarvis replied.

A few minutes later the guys returned to the kitchen and living room, Tony included and sat in front of the fire in silence with their pizzas.

"We'll find them Tony" Nat reassured him.
"Y/N is strong, so is Loki" Steve looked around at everyone.
"And I know my brother will be doing everything he can to protect Y/N" Thor replied. He knew that Loki cared more about Y/N than he was letting on. He knew that he would do everything In his power to help her.
"I know. We'll find them" Tony said quietly

The team sat in silence for the rest of their dinner and pondered over their next move. It would be dangerous. It would be hard to find them both but they were determined. They had to get their two team members home. They had to help Loki and Y/N.
They are more than just their team members.

They are family.
