The Element - Loki / Avengers x Reader

*Loki's POV*

Neither I nor Stark slept. We sat in the waiting room which felt like an eternity. It had been about 10 hours since the mission. 10 hours since we arrived to help Y/N. 10 hours since she was shot. It is during those 10 hours that I felt like half of me was dying. I need her.

*Tony's POV*

I can see how much Loki cares for her. His sheer anger towards Zemo was enough for me to see that he would do anything to protect her.

We were still waiting for the doctors to make an appearance to tell us how the surgery had gone.

This girl is like a daughter to me. I need her to pull through. We all do.

*normal POV*

The pair were sat in the waiting room for some time and were running off of lack of sleep and caffeine from where the nurses had bought them endless amounts of tea and coffee during the night.

The rest of the team were with Shield securing Zemo and the rest of his goons and were sending them straight into interrogation.

"Tony? Loki?" One of the doctors appeared from the doorway.
Both of their heads whipped up and they stood to attention.
"Is she okay?" Tony asked.
The doctor nodded "yes she is. We just need to talk to you both before you go and see her"
Their stomachs turned. What did they need to discuss?

They followed the doctor into a consultation room and sat with him by the desk.
"What's wrong?" Loki asked.
"She's okay. She will make a full recovery. She was shot twice. But not with a normal bullet" he paused.
The pair looked at each other confused
"What do you mean that it wasn't a normal bullet?" Tony frowned.
"It's hard to describe. We aren't 100% sure what it is but it was a solid, bullet-like object but it was a chemical" he paused again. "We think it was something designed to counter act Y/N's abilities. We think it might have been something to .... remove them"
"How can that be possible ?" Loki asked
"We don't know..." he was stopped when Tony angrily stood to his feet
"What do you mean you don't know!? If something like this exists then what's stopping anyone else being shot with this...this...thing?!"
"Tony sit down and let him finish" Loki tugged his arm to sit down, which he did.
"Look I'm sorry I don't have any more information right now. We don't even know what the success rate of it is, if at all. But if it was successful then there's a high chance that Y/N won't have her powers anymore."
Silence fell until the doctor stood and motioned the two to follow him so they could see Y/N.

They were led into her room where she lay tucked up and attached to different monitors for observation.
Loki walked over and sat in the chair next to her bed, taking her hand in his. Tony stood at the foot of the bed still mulling over what the doctor had said.
"Y/N?" Loki whispered.
Y/N fluttered her eyes open.
"Loki?" She said groggily. Her eyes met Loki and a small smile appeared.
"Loki are you okay?" She asked.
Loki and Tony both chuckled.
"Kid you get shot and you're asking the two people not in a hospital bed if they're okay? Now I know you're feeling yourself" Tony chuckled.
"Yes dear we are both fine. How're you feeling?" Loki asked whilst stroking her head.
"I'm okay. Did you catch Zemo? What happened?" She looked at the pair who looked at each other and sighed.
"What? Did Zemo get free?" Her eyes widened with fear.
"No we got Zemo dear don't worry. It's not that it's just .." Loki trailed off and looked to Tony.
"Y/N , when Zemo shot you it wasn't with a normal bullet" Tony paused and sat down on her bedside.
"W...what do you mean?" She asked.
"The doctors think the bullet was laced with a chemical that cancels your powers out. They're not sure how long for but they want us to be prepared that they may never come back" Loki looked at her with sorrow. She had worked so hard to train and get her powers to be strong and powerful. And now they were potentially gone.
She didn't reply she blinked and tears fell down her cheeks.
"We don't know for sure yet Y/N" Tony tried to reassure her.
"Okay" that's all she said , much to Tony and Loki's surprise.
"We'll leave you to rest , we'll go and tell the others that you're awake okay?" Tony offered her a reassuring smile.
She nodded. Loki kissed her cheek and the pair left her.
She stared into space trying to process what she had just been told.
What would this mean for her ? With no powers , what use was she? She kept thinking to herself.
She curled up in a ball on the bed and sobbed.

*back in the main living quarters*

"So she may never have her powers again?" Nat looked at Loki and Tony who broke the news to the team.
"We aren't 100% sure yet. Neither are the doctors. They're still running tests on the chemical from the bullet. The important thing is that she is okay" Tony said, whilst rubbing his head.

The team were shocked. They knew Y/N was never a fan of having her powers but it is what made her so determined to fight alongside the team. They knew that she felt a part of the team because of her abilities.

"So, what now?" Steve asked
"Well.. we just wait. See if they come back. It could be hours, days, weeks... months. Or they may never come back. We'll know more when she's out of recovery" Tony sighed.

The team nodded and returned to their day , trying to act as normal. Deep down , they were all worried for Y/N.
