After all that we've been through

I would make it up to you, I promise to

And after all that's been said and done

You're just the part of me I can't let go

At this point onward, I was no longer looking at the screen for the lyrics. I knew the lyrics too well that they were the same words I wanted Rose to hear; those were the exact words I wanted her to know. Those words came, not from the song, but from my heart yearning for her.

Yet, even after finishing the song, Rose was looking rather sternly at the screen. No one noticed that because they were all busy praising and teasing on my singing skills. Good thing, they did not notice that it was a song I dedicated to Rose.

Before Gardo entered a new song in the videoke machine, Rose grabbed the microphone fast and told them that she would sing another song. Of course, everyone clapped their hands in agreement. What song will she sing this time? It made me jittery though but interested nonetheless.

"Ilagay mo diyan," Rose told Gardo as the latter prepared his finger to put on the song code. "Nine. Five. Eight. Nine. Two."

The title of the song was revealed. I was stunned by the mere title of the song. It was 'Jar of Hearts' by Christina Perri.

You know, I can't take one more step towards you

Cause all this waiting is regret

Don't you know, I'm not your ghost anymore

You've lost the love I loved the most

In those words, I laid my back on the monobloc chair where I sat. I heaved a sigh and drank the can of San Mig Strong Ice. I was able to drink all of it instantly. It got something to do with the song Rose was singing. I honestly hated feeling this way! You know, feeling guilty. I frowned instead as I blankly stared in deep space.

I've learned to live half alive

Now, you want me one more time

I raised my head to look at her. There, I saw that she was looking at me. Her eyes, I reckoned, were full of pain. Anger even. They were not crying, they were not swimming in tears. But I knew that they were hurt.

And who do you think you are?

Running 'round leaving scars

Collecting your jar of hearts

And tearing love apart

You'll gonna catch a cold

From the eyes inside your soul

So don't come back to me

Who do you think you are?

Rose sang the song so emotionally. There was an inexplicable intensity that made me sensed her feelings were being poured onto the lyrics. And every word she sang stung every nerve of my body. My hand went unusually numb that I needed to put down the second can I got. In Tagalog, hugot na hugot kaya may kurot.

Rose finished the song. I thought a tear fell out of her eyes because she seemed to wipe something out from her cheek but there was none. My eyes met with hers. Slowly, she sat back on her seat as she gave back the microphone to Gardo. I thought that she was sending a cryptic message to my mind as if she was telling me that no person who hurt her deserved any forgviness.
