I woke up a while later, with Sebastian still holding my head in his lap.
"Good morning, sleepyhead," Sebastian smiled as I woke up.
"What time is it?" I asked him, sitting up. He pulled his sleeve back and checked his wristwatch.
He told me the time and informed me that I'd been asleep for a little under two hours.
"Geeze, I'm sorry," I laughed. "I didn't mean to trap you here for so long."
He smiled at me. "I really didn't mind, y'n," he told me."Besides, you needed the rest."
He was right. I did feel more refreshed now. I was surprised I was able to sleep without any bad dreams.
"We probably need to leave the Undercroft here soon," Sebastian said. "Poppy's going to come get you here soon, and you need to be somewhere she can find you."
I agreed, and we got up to leave. We went to the library, as he said he needed to look for a specific book.
"I can leave you be if you want me to," I offered. "I don't want to be a distraction if you're going to be doing homework."
"No, it's fine," he replied. "Stay with me. Plus, Poppy did ask that I keep you busy until she's ready."
"Okay," I smiled.
I followed him as he scanned the shelves of the herbology section. His eyes were curiously bright as he looked through the books, occasionally picking one off the shelf and scanning it's contents. I always knew he enjoyed reading, and I could tell by the look in his eyes. He looked up from the book he was holding and locked eyes with me. "I hope I'm not boring you," he said.
"You never bore me," I told him.
"Good. Well in that case, I'm going to take a seat and read this book some more, feel free to join me. I'd prefer you stay where I can keep an eye on you for Poppy."
"Got it," I replied.
he sat down on a couch near the fireplace that was back behind the shelves. I plopped down next to him. pulled his legs up into the couch and dove into his book. I couldn't help but stare at him while he did this. He'd occasionally look up and catch me staring, but I didn't look away. It made him smile every time, and I loved to see it.
After a while, I saw Poppy coming towards us from the other end of the library. "Y/n and Sebastian! There you two are!" she said. "Are you ready for Birthday Part two?" she asked me with a huge grin on her face.
"Very ready," I grinned back. "Today has been really amazing. Thank you for putting this together, Poppy."
She led me and Sebastian through the castle and towards the Slytherin common room. "I hope you enjoy this, and I really hope it's not too much," she gushed.
"I'm sure I will love whatever it is, Poppy," I assured her.
When we reached the entrance to the commons, she stopped us at the door. "You ready?" she said, shimmying her shoulders. Her excitement was dripping off of her as thick as honey, so it was hard not to be excited as well.
"Very ready," I said.
After entering, we descended the stairs into the common room.
Just like I'd thought, it was a surprise party. Even when I am surprised, I have a hard time showing it, but I tried really hard to look the part. I was happy, and I was surprised. Mostly surprised by the amount of people that shouted 'surprise' upon my entry.
There were some green and black streamers strewn about, and even some balloons tied to various furniture. I wonder how Poppy got the Slytherin Prefects to let her do all of this. I know Imelda hadn't been the one blowing up a bunch of balloons and hanging streamers. The thought of her smiling and putting up party decorations made me laugh inside.
"Do you like it?" Sebastian nudged me.
"Yes, I do," I smiled.
I found Natty and Imelda in the crowd, and Sebastian said he was off to find Ominis.
There was loud music playing over the speakers, and tables full of food and drink. I can definitely see why this took all afternoon to set up.
"Would you like to go and dance?" Natty asked me.
"I might need a few more drinks before I do that," Imelda interjected. I can't match your energy any other way."
"I'm with Imelda on that one," I laughed.
"I don't need alcohol to have a good time. Besides, my mother would kill me if she found out I was even here right now," said Natty.
"True," laughed Imelda.
Imelda and I left Natty, who had already started bee lining to where others were dancing. Imelda led me through the crowd to the drink table, gripping my hand.
The drink table was spectacular- rows of cups sat empty on the table as floating beverage bottles hovered above, ready to pour guests a drink. It was definitely an advanced charm, and not one I'd seen yet. Imelda and I each grabbed what looked good. Nerida buzzed over to us, catcing us as we were heading back out into the room.
"This is spectacular," said Nerida. "I'm not usually a party person, but I came out for the occasion. I'm glad I did. Happy birthday, by the way, y/n."
"Thank you," I returned. "and I'm glad you came as well."
After a few drinks, Imelda and I joined Natty on the dance floor along with Nerida as promised. Poppy was already with Natty, and they seemed to be having a blast.
The smell of alcohol and sweat mixed on the floor as everyone moved to the music. It was hard not to get lost in the crowd. I noticed Garreth had now joined us.
"Happy Birthday," he told me. "I got you something." Garreth got me something too?
"What is it?" I asked him. He held out a small potion, which was a shimmery silver in color. I took it from him hesitantly.
"Did you brew this?" I questioned. I was wary of anything he concocted himself.
"Well of course," he laughed.
"But what does it do?" I questioned futher.
"You'll just have to see," he said, heading off into the crowd. I pocketed the small bottle. There was no way I was going to ingest something that Garreth had brewed. There was the smallest possibility that it did what he intended for it to do, and way too large of a chance that I might just blow up. That would be shocking if the birthday girl suddenly blew up at her own party.
I started to search the crowd for Sebastian or Ominis, but neither of them were anywhere to be seen. I wonder where they had gotten off to.
