I grabbed my broom and headed off to the quidditch field to prepare for the game.
Imelda had us gathered and was giving some rather pointy 'words of encouragement' before we were supposed to head out onto the field. I was wringing my hands nervously, trying not to let my anxiety take hold. I'd been counting people in the stands wearing hats, which was quite a few considering the low temperature outside. We were mid October now and the weather was starting to turn.
"Don't be nervous, y'n, you're going to do just fine," Sebastian said, nudging me. He made it onto the team as a chaser, which was completely expected.
"I can't help it," I breathed.
"Y/n, look at me," Sebastian said, grabbing my shoulder. I looked into his eyes, which comforted me some. "I have no doubts about you. You're the fastest I flier know, and you've got a fire inside you- you just need to let it out. Use this to channel your aggression, that's what I do."
"I'll try," I told him.
"Good. I promise you're going to do great." He planted a sudden kiss on my cheek before hopping on his broom.
It was time to go, but I was still in shock from what just happened.
Sebastian had kissed me... On the cheek, but still...
I mounted my broom and followed everyone onto the field. We took our positions and waited for Kogawa to blow the whistle. I watched as the snitch buzzed past me and the other seeker, almost taunting us, as the whistle hadn't been blown yet. I shoved all of my anxieties and thoughts about Sebastian out of my mind and waited.
I heard the sound of the whistle, and immediately flew upwards to get a good view from the sky. I watched the game below begin.
As seeker, I really did little playing. All of my time was spent looking for the snitch in order to catch it and end the game. It wouldn't end until I did, and it also scored us 150 points. It often decided the winner of the game as well.
For the first few minutes, I didn't see anything. I flew a few circles around the arena, avoiding the bludger as best I could by staying high. I was scanning the area, focusing on every little flash of light I saw.
I couldn't help but turn my attention to Sebastian as he played below me. He was swift and aggressive- I watched as he knocked a Gryffindor player off their broom and stole the quaffle from them and made a goal. He was absolutely mesmerizing to watch.
'Focus, y/n, focus!' I told myself. I turned my attention to the other seeker, looking to see if his eye had caught the snitch yet.
I watched as the other seeker suddenly shot off in the other direction. I immediately chased after him, even though I hadn't caught sight of the snitch yet. After a few seconds of chase, I finally caught sight of it. It was flying about ten feet in front of him.
I had this.
The Gryffindor seeker was good, but I was better.
I heard the announcer announce yet another score for the Gryffindors. They had us now, but after I had the snitch, we'd win for sure.
I chased after him, right on his tail as we went after the snitch. I came up right beside him and gave him a hard bump, but he didn't falter.
Annoyed, I raced ahead coming out just ahead of him. The snitch was so close I could almost grasp it from where I was at. I reached forward, but right as I did so, a bludger flew past, causing both me and the Gryffindor seeker to falter backwards. Even as it happened, I kept my eye on the snitch.
After the bludger, I raced forward, but the Gryffindor was right at my side. I tried kicking him, but his grip on his broom was strong as glue. He glared at me when I looked over, but I quickly turned my attention back to the snitch. I raced past the Gryffindor, finally surpassing him.
I reached forward, almost brushing the little golden orb. The Gryffindor was still on my ass, but I'd be the first to the snitch at this rate.
I reached out again and swiped for it. I missed.
I reached out again and clasped my hand closed, this time feeling the cold metal underneath my fingers.
I had caught the snitch.
The students in the stands were cheering as they announced that Slytherin had taken the win. I went to the ground where the Slytherin team was gathering. they congratulated me, lifting me up and giving me praise. I was still a little bit surprised at the fact that I caught it. With everything happening all at once, I couldn't focus on any one thing.
After the game, there was a party being thrown in the Slytherin Common room. There were very few people from other houses, so neither Natty nor Poppy were there. Even though Garreth was a Gryffindor, he still happened to be at the party.
It reminded me of the fact that he'd given me a mystery potion on my birthday, which I'd totally forgotten about. There was still no way I was going to ingest whatever he'd given me.
I noticed Sebastian there as well, but part of me was still nervous to approach him. I was still a bit thrown off by the fact that he'd kissed me earlier. I knew it was just a kiss on the cheek, and that could mean a million things.
I was also nervous about it due to the fact that last time I was at a party and thought I'd been talking to Sebastian, it was someone else the whole time.
I grabbed another drink and downed it quickly.
'Should I talk to Sebastian?' I asked myself. I definitely wanted to, but part of me was definitely afraid to. What if I said something stupid again?
