After I snuck out of Bennet's apartment, I headed straight home. Financially, I could afford my own place. The money would be tight, but I could swing it. I just didn't feel that I could do it and not collapse under the weight of guilt. When I walked into the older home just on the outskirts of the city, I was immediately hit with the smell of vodka. Dad's drink of choice. Smelling it so strongly wasn't a good sign. I nervously walked around the living area, looking for him, expecting to see him slumped over somewhere.

"Ah, where have you been?" His voice startled me, causing me to jump. His words were slurred, and he was staggering by the doorway when I turned.

"Work." I bit out. "You should get to bed."

"That's where I was going." He grumbled.

He wasn't the nicest drunk I'd ever known, but he certainly wasn't as bad as he could've been. I was grateful for that, at least. I cleaned up the piles of dishes laying around as well as the general mess he'd left. Once I did that, I showered and hurried into bed. I'd be opening Brew in only a few short hours and then working my shift at Splash in the evening. Having a little rendezvous with Bennett was costing me sleep; it was damn worth it though.

"You look like shit." Los teased when he came into the shop.

"Gee. Thanks." I huffed, blowing a tendril of hair out of my face. I filled the various flavorings bottles while the coffee was brewing.

"Ok. Like shit but in a good way."

"There's a good way to look like shit?" I laughed, wiping the counter off before heading to the door to unlock and change the closed sign to open.

"You look thoroughly fucked, which means a lack of sleep." He replied, tying his apron on. Los was short for Carlos. My Hispanic life partner. At least, that's what he called himself. We'd been working at Brew together for a while now, and he was one of my closest friends other than Eden and Brynn.

"Ok, you could have just said that. It sounds much better." I shouted over my shoulder. As I returned to the register, I gave a snarky reply. "You look well rested, which I can only assume means no dick for you?" I raised my brows.

"No dick, no pussy, nothing!" He threw his hand up onto his forehead like a damsel in distress. I couldn't roll my eyes any harder if I tried.

"That explains the bitchy attitude." I laughed, quickly toning it down as customers began to arrive.

The day was pretty busy, which meant the tips were good and it made the time pass more quickly. I was cleaning up during a slow period while talking with Los again. I went to reply to something he had said when he froze and stared at the door.

"Don't look now, but an Adonis is approaching." He whispered. "I call dibs."

"Go for it." I laughed. "You clearly need a thorough fucking, remember?" I spoke softly so the customers wouldn't hear. Unfortunately, this specific customer did.

"Someone is in need of a thorough fucking?" Bennett smiled, leaning over the counter and barging in on the conversation. Los's eyes went wide with surprise. I rolled my eyes, huffing as I stepped back, crossing my arms over my chest.

"What are you doing here?" I blurted.

"You know him?" Los gasped.

"Oh, she knows me." Bennett smiled and then gave me a wink, such a cocky bastard.

Before Los could dive any further into our conversation, another customer approached; I heard him mumble some swear under his breath as he went over to greet them. All the while, Bennett and I are locked in a staring contest that I end up losing.
