Gemma

The interview with the marketing firm went well. I was incredibly nervous, but I somehow managed to push through and after the phone call I just took, I'm now employed by Eriksen Solutions. I may or may not have had my own celebratory dance party in my kitchen while wearing my favorite pajamas.

Before I could start my first real, big-girl job, I got to celebrate one of my best friends as well. Eden finally published her first novel and it was doing well. She was incredibly talented. Reed had put together a nice surprise party for her and I was going to finally take charge and talk to Bennett. After our dinner the other night, I couldn't stop thinking about him. Things in my life were turning out perfectly fine, Bennett's reasoning for calling things off was moot at this point.

"You're the best, Los. Thanks for letting us use the space. Brew is pretty special to all of us." Brynn shouted from the back while Los and I made sure all the tables were wiped down and the decorations were just right. Reed's Mom had organized a table with some of Eden's books, and a cake. Brynn was arranging a variety of snacks in the back. Tate was keeping an eye on the door for Eden and Reed, while the rest of us busied around making sure everything was perfect. I kept glancing and watching for Bennett. I knew he'd be here, he didn't miss any of the important friend gatherings. Eden was like a sister to him and he took her under his protective wing and I knew he wouldn't miss this.

After Reed and Eden arrived, Brew was buzzing with activity. Even though Los repeatedly told me to stop acting like a server, I couldn't help it. I found myself running to the back several times to replenish things. A part of me wanted to make the event special but I also utilized those moments to gather my thoughts and prepare myself to approach Bennett. He'd arrived right before the guest of honor. He was looking handsome as ever and the few glances we shared, my insides were a constant flutter.

"C'mon, just go to him and do it. Confess your undying love and go get your freak on." Los teased as he brought some empty cups to the kitchen.

"Seriously?! Shut up." I laughed, shoving at him playfully. "Am I crazy, Los? I am, aren't I? I shouldn't even try this again, this is stupid."

"No, Gemma. It's not stupid. You're crazy, for sure, but only crazy because you two haven't figured this shit out before now. I saw how he looked at you all through dinner and I see how miserable he is without you. He chickened out before you two could see how good you could be and now, well I guess you gotta have the balls for both of you and tell him how stupid he was. Put him out of his misery, go kiss your boy, and live happily ever after, okay?" I wrapped Los in a hug, squeezing him with so much love. I could never tell him with words how much he meant to me. "Go! Quit wasting time." He shoved me away with a laugh.

As I rushed around the corner, I stopped to scan the room. When I found Bennett, my heart sank. A beautiful blonde was standing with him, her arm wrapped in his. They both stood, talking to Hugh. She was tall and thin, a real-life model standing before me. I couldn't compare to her, she had the look, that perfect appearance that went well with his sports career. They looked gorgeous standing there together. Before I could make a decision as to what I wanted to do, Reed's stepmother, Marie called out to everyone to gather for a picture.

Quickly we did as she requested and just as we all settled into place, Eden took that moment to announce her pregnancy. The room erupted into cheers, cries, and squeals. Everything with Bennett was long forgotten as we celebrated not only her book but also their baby.

"Congratulations!" I held my friend close to me, finally getting her for a moment. "I'm so beyond happy for you."

"Thank you. I hadn't planned to announce it like that, but since we're all here, might as well." She laughed, holding me out and looking me over. "I'm so proud of you by the way. I know it's been chaotic, but we need a girls' night soon! Have you talked to him yet?"
