Bennett
While sitting back and relaxing, feeling lighter, having seen and talked to Gemma at the coffee shop. The way her lips felt on mine, fuck, I'd never felt anything like it. I had my bag packed up for our travel day tomorrow and was almost asleep when my phone rang. I glanced over and saw that it was Los. We had exchanged numbers on one of my many visits to Brew while looking for Gemma.
"Hey," I answered.
"Bennett?" He sounded upset, causing me to sit up quickly in bed.
"Yeah, what's up?"
"Can you come to Brew? She's going to kill me, but I have a bad feeling about Gemma. She left here pretty pissed off at me, and I can't get through to her. Usually, she'll respond with something snarky, but she hasn't, and I just, have a gut feeling something isn't right."
Los had barely finished explaining before I was in the parking garage and in my truck. Never once had I been this guy, the one who ran to the aide of a woman. I steered clear of drama, chicks who needed rescuing, and any type of stressful situation. I enjoyed coasting through, enjoying soccer, with my friends, and having a good time. One night with Gemma seemed to threaten all of that.
When I pulled up at Brew, Los was pacing by his car in the back of the cafe. The second I stopped, he was jumping in the truck.
"Just in case she really is ignoring me, I figure you'll be a good buffer." He attempted a laugh. "Her address..."
"I know where she lives." I interrupted. "What did you two fight about?"
He laughed while shaking his head before answering. "You, Adonis."
"Me?"
"I just called her out on some of her bullshit. Gemma has walls up a mile high and bulletproof, I was just pointing it out to her." I glanced over at him, as he smirked. "I think you're good for her, you ruffle her feathers in just the right way. I like you. Don't let her push you away."
When we drove up, I immediately spotted Gemma sitting in her car. It looked like she was hunched over her steering wheel. I didn't hesitate to jump out and rush over, my heart breaking when I could see her body shaking with sobs. After my interaction with her Father the other evening, I could only imagine what horrible things he may have done or said to cause her to be in such a condition. I had to bite back the rage I felt. I did my best not to push her, or pry and just assist her in getting away.
I helped Gemma to get out of her car and into my truck. Settling her into the backseat, I drove us back toward Brew. My grip on the steering wheel tightened with every glance I took in the rearview mirror. Gemma looked broken, exhausted and I wanted to know why and I wanted to fix it for her.

I barely got any sleep after returning to the apartment. I couldn't get my brain to shut off. So now I stood in front of the coffee maker, hoping it was as strong as possible. Reed was already up and had taken Eden home after their sleepover. Hugh was gone to work and here I sat alone. It had never bothered me much before but lately, I hated it. I hated it even more now knowing that Los was the one taking care of Gemma. I had no idea what had gone on, and neither one of them contacted me.
"You alright man?" Reed patted my shoulder, interrupting my thoughts.
"Uh, yea, I think." I forced a smile. I stood, grabbing my bag in one hand, and coffee in the other. I followed Reed back down to his car, riding with him to the stadium to get on the bus. He was quiet at first but I could tell he was biting at the bit to say something. "What? You wanna say something, what is it?" I mumbled.
