"Do you have plans tonight?" He asks.
"I do," I answer, unwilling to give any more information.
"Cancel them."
"Nope. Not happening. You should probably head out unless you want to order a coffee."
"C'mon, cancel whatever you've got going on, and let's spend the evening together. I think you can agree we both had an amazing time."
"It was pretty amazing," I smirk. "I have to work, though, sorry." I shrug.
"Here? How late is this place even open?" Bennett asks, leaning back and looking around.
"I have another job. Are you going to order anything?" I huff.
"Fuck, a black coffee, tall." He fetches his wallet, throwing several bills on the counter, more than enough for a coffee. I immediately turn to grab the cup and get it poured, so hopefully, he'll leave and leave me alone. He was fucking gorgeous, amazing in bed, and to say I hadn't thought about him several times since leaving his bed would be a lie. The truth was I didn't want any kind of relationship, any drama, or chance of heartbreak. I had too much baggage and not enough time.
I slid his coffee to him and gave him back all of his change. I wasn't going to take extra money. Fuck him. He was quickly pissing me off standing there in his athletic wear, looking stupid hot, and fuckable.
"Have a good day." I chirped with a fake smile.
"I will, once you agree to go on a date with me."
I stood, watching his face for any sign that he was serious. He appeared to be, and I was shocked. I did not get the feeling that Bennett Hayes dated anyone.
"A date?"
"Yes. Don't look so surprised. I'm not asking to get married, just to go out and have dinner and drinks." His beautiful face was so sincere. I never dated; I never really even got asked out on dates. I suppose my demeanor came off as cold, and most guys were only interested in one thing. I took that one thing and left it at that. While my mind raced with these various thoughts, the shop began to fill up with customers. Bennett cleared his throat, stepping away from the counter to keep from holding up the line.
I immediately went into work mode, almost ignoring his presence next to me. Almost. It was pretty impossible to do when nearly every female customer was ogling him when they ordered. When I would look over at him, though, each time, our eyes met. He hadn't taken his off of me.
"Fine."
"Fine, what?" He asked, daring me to say the exact words.
"I'll go on a date," I grumbled as the last customer, for the moment, walked away.
"On a date with me?" He acted surprised, annoying the piss out of me.
"Yes, I will go on a date with you." I huffed, hand on my hip.
"Great." He pulled out his phone, thrusting it at me. "Put your number in, please."
Bennett
I rushed out of the locker room as fast as I could. I wanted to get ready for my date with Gemma, but I also wanted to avoid the shit that Reed was inevitably going to give me. I bounced along in my truck back to the apartment to get a nap and then figure out exactly what I wanted to do. I'd been on a few dates; it wasn't usually my thing, but in general, just take a girl out to dinner and then wind up in bed before the evening was done.
For some reason, that didn't sit right with me, I felt like Gemma wasn't the dinner date kind of girl. I couldn't figure out why I even cared; I was just trying to get another chance with her, leaving her wanting more this time. Get her out of my system and out of my head. Once I got settled at home, I decided to text and check Gemma's number. I didn't really think about it at the time, but there was a large possibility that she gave me a fake number.
