Sapphire Black hated Severus Snape for a number of reasons.

Firstly, he bullied her cousin and that alone made her blood boil; Harry didn't deserve that when he'd done nothing to offend the man. Secondly, he favoured Slytherins with no guilt nor any attempt to hide it. Thirdly, he didn't particularly like the Black twins. He tolerated Alex better since he was a Slytherin and was a lot more reserved than his sister. Alex didn't get the snarky comments that Sapphire did.

She'd never done anything to him, what was his problem?

In fact, it was quite the opposite. Sapphire held her tongue in Potions and did a good job at the subject. She didn't want to risk missing Quidditch through detention nor the disappointed look in McGonagall's eyes so she just avoided causing trouble. That didn't mean she could glare at the Professor when he was being unfair.

However, Snape never denied the fact she was good at the subject. It would be incredibly hard to do so, especially when Sapphire's skill in it reminded him so much of her mother.

Andromeda always said that she got the skill from her mother, who had been a brilliant healer despite struggling with transfiguration and charms. She knew her poisons and healing potions incredibly well.

Once, when Sapphire complained about Snape's weird behaviour, Andromeda had explained how Snape had been friends with Serina Potter back when they were in their first years of Hogwarts and the two would often spend hours with Lily Evans learning the subject. She never elaborated on why Snape might have taken a dislike to Sapphire, however, but the Gryffindor girl knew that there was something deeper to the story.

"After this year, many of you will cease studying with me," Snape began. "I only take the best into my N.E.W.T class so I will not be seeing a lot of you."

"Rude," Sapphire muttered under her breath.

"We have another year until farewells so I expect you all to have the intention of passing this class, N.E.W.T or not," Snape continued. "Today we will be brewing a common potion at wizarding level, the draught of peace..."

As Snape continued, people began to find the recipes in their books. Alex, knowing the book by heart, flipped to the page. They were always paired together in potions, something they had done since the first year. The Gryffindors always ended up with the Slytherins in potions for their year group.
