It was silent in the Hogwarts hospital wing.

Students were asleep, having been taken there after the ministry battle. Some had been injured — Ron, Hermione, Neville and Alicia — while others had managed to leave the wing by the end of the night. Others had been forced to leave the hospital wing after sitting with their friends, though two had been granted special permission.

Sirius Black; a man who'd been pardoned little over an hour ago. Dumbledore had practically forced Fudge and he couldn't deny it after the amount of witnesses that saw him fight against the Death Eaters...that he was the father of a girl who'd stood up to Voldemort multiple times.

Alexander Black; a Slytherin who had barely recovered from being stunned before he had run to his sister at full speed because she would always be his first thought through everything. They had been through everything together.

They sat side by side, watching as Sapphire slept peacefully. She had been that way since the Ministry, though there wasn't much for Madam Pomfrey to do. There wasn't anything wrong with her other than exhaustion.

Alex didn't have as strong of a relationship with his dad as Sapphire did. His sister trusted more easily, as well as forgiving people too, whereas it took Alex longer. By the time Alex was willing to finally have a father-son relationship, Sirius had formed a strong bond with his daughter.

"You should sleep, Alex," Sirius insisted quietly.

"No, thank you," Alex replied in a whisper. "I have to be awake. I need to make sure she wakes up."

The pain in his voice was evidence. Sirius had spent so long worrying about Sapphire's own PTSD from last year that he had forgotten the fact he had seen her when she had returned with Harry. The fear in his voice was the trauma...of his sister dying.

"You know, you'd be dead without her," Alex added, twirling the bracelet he had on. "You nearly got murdered. I guess it runs in the family...death wishes. Then I think 'good you're alive' and turn around to see my sister had been dragged half way down the ministry by our crazy cousin and no one had noticed."

"Alex—"

"No one noticed, dad. Not until Harry came fully to and started running after them," Alex continued harshly, closing his eyes. "I just feel like this is a losing battle. Every year, she somehow finds herself in situations I think she won't get out of."
