There was something that made Sapphire reluctant to put her head into the Pensieve. it wasn't the feeling she got when she knew something was wrong but more the sense that she wasn't sure if she wanted to really find out what her mother knew, because it hurt — it hurt to know that Serina accepted the fact she'd die for her children. Sapphire didn't want to hear that she was the reason her mother was dead.

It didn't even matter that she knew Bellatrix Lestrange killed her mother, it still felt as though Sapphire was the reason she was there in the first place. It was stupid, considering Sapphire had always told Harry his parents' murder wasn't his fault — it was the same situation.

"Sapphire, we have to look at those memories," Alex pressed.

It had been over a week since they found the box, and Sapphire just hadn't been able to get herself to do it. She had spent her time wandering Potter Manor, restoring bits and pieces to what they once were. It seemed such a shame that the house was empty when it was once so beautiful.

"I think I could live here after the war, if you didn't mind it," Sapphire hummed, ignoring his comment and running a hand along the walls. "I'd paint the walls, get some furniture..."

"That sounds really nice but—"

"Maybe there'd be some little Sapphires. They'd probably be menaces—"

"Okay, stop," Alex grabbed her arm. "Stop avoiding. I've been dying to look at those memories for days, but I didn't because it's supposed to be us or nothing. Why are you putting it off?"

"I thought I wanted to know her secrets, but maybe I don't," Sapphire whispered. "It'll just make me miss someone I don't know."

"Sapphire, it'll only torture you more if you don't," Alex replied back kindly.

She sighed, giving in. She was a slight pushover when it came to Alex, and his constant bugging had finally gotten to her.

The Pensieve was in the study. It was a shallow stone bowl carved with runes and symbols, with the ability be filled with memories that appeared like a silvery vapour, which other people could then view. A smart and useful tool.

With a deep breath, Sapphire lowered her head into the basin. She felt her feet leave the office floor; she was falling, falling through whirling darkness and then, quite suddenly, she was blinking in dazzling sunlight.
