As soon as she stepped out of the car, she regretted everything.
The grand estate was glowing under golden lights, the sound of laughter and clinking glasses filling the air. It was nothing like the world she was used to. Luxury cars lined the driveway, and elegantly dressed guests moved effortlessly through the crowd, as if they belonged there-because they did.
She swallowed hard, suddenly hyper-aware of how out of place she felt. Her hands instinctively smoothed over the silky fabric of her dress, a reminder that this wasn't her usual world.
What am I even doing here?
She took a hesitant step forward, her heels clicking against the polished marble entrance. The weight of the stares hit her immediately. Some were subtle, others not so much. A few girls whispered to each other, eyes scanning her from head to toe.
Great. Just great.
Maybe if she walked fast enough, she could blend into the crowd, find a quiet corner, and avoid-
"Boo!!"
She nearly screamed as someone grabbed her arms from behind. Her heart jumped into her throat as she spun around, eyes wide.
And there he was, standing with a smug grin-Kevin.
She clutched her chest, glaring at him. "Are you insane?! I almost had a heart attack!"
Kevin only laughed, completely unbothered. "Relax, princess. You looked like you were planning a prison break."
She rolled her eyes. "I was considering it."
He smirked, looking her up and down. "Damn. Didn't expect you to clean up this well. You sure you're not a lost heiress or something?"
She huffed. "Shut up, Kevin."
"Touchy," he teased before stepping beside her. "Come on, at least act like you're having fun. I'll even be your bodyguard for the night."
She crossed her arms. "And what exactly do I need protection from?"
Kevin leaned in slightly, lowering his voice. "The sharks in this place. The moment they realize you're not one of them, they'll start circling."
She frowned. "Wow. So reassuring."
He only grinned. "Stick with me. I'll make sure no one eats you alive."
She sighed, but a small part of her was relieved to have someone familiar by her side. Maybe this night wouldn't be completely unbearable.
