Jaune Arc: Unlimited Enhancements

My name is Jaune Arc. However, it wasn't always. Before arriving in this world, I used to be called Matthew Smith...I know, a very generic name, but that was who I was. Although my name and looks have changed, I am still that person who died on Earth. Everything changed for me when I turned seventeen and decided to head to Beacon on a false transcript.

Recently, my memories have come back. I remember things back on Earth that I couldn't even remember when I was there in person. It was quite surreal to be able to remember every single part of your life starting from your birth. Also, I know the fate of this world, and I am very determined to change the outcome. One thing I already did differently when I left home was not taking Crocea Mors with me. Instead, I brought a simple sword with the ability to turn into a spear.

One good thing. Thankfully, I did not have to experience being a baby here on Remnant. That's right, of course I know where I am. The name Jaune Arc is very recognisable. The moment I regained my memories, it took some time for them to fully merge. If my memories did not fully merge, I wouldn't have remembered the gifts I was given when I arrived here.

The first gift was the Book of Magic Knowledge. A wonderful book to have for all those who desire to learn magic to the extreme extent as it holds all magic knowledge and is continually being updated for all the worlds that are being born and creating their forms of magic. The downside side, you must have the energy to be able to enter the later chapters of the book. All the knowledge is not available at once. It can only be gradually unsealed, which is understandable since the book does not want to kill the one who desires its knowledge.

The second gift is far more valuable than the Book of Magic Knowledge, and it is the Unlimited Enhancement. It is a simple system that allows the user to be able to enhance anything to its greatest potential. The limit of how much something can be enhanced depends on the material that is being enhanced. Everything is ranked from F-SSS, after which, it becomes a star rating from 1-star to 10-stars. There are many more rankings, but it is blocked from my view since I am too weak.

Another thing about the Unlimited Enhancement System is the system panel. It shows me what my Mind, Body and Spirit rankings are, which I can then enhance. The only caveat, I need to earn enhancement points. It took me some time to learn how to earn the enhancement points. Apparently, killing Grimm earns me enhancement points. The stronger the Grimm, the more enhancement points.

As amazing as the Unlimited Enhancement is, it is quite expensive to be able to enhance oneself. Each rank has a set amount of enhancement points needed. And the Grimm around my home is not that strong, meaning low amounts of points to be gained, which is a benefit for me since I could hardly fight a single Grimm.

As you can see, the amount needed for the rank F-SSS is immense, which is why I cannot even see the required amounts for the Star Ranking, let alone the others that succeed it. It was just bonkers to think about.

Luckily for me, I get one chance to be able to bring something to S-rank as a freebie, which is a big deal for me. I could use it on my Mind, Body or Spirit.

Using it on Mind would be helpful since I would be able to become extremely smart. I would be able to learn things from the Book of Magic Knowledge with ease, but I would not have the Body and Spirit to accomplish it. Sure, I can have other knowledge, such as engineering, biology, physics, etc. But I would not have the resources to make that knowledge useful.

I could use it on my Spirit, which would give me the ability to perform magical feats. However, I would not have the Body to hold the amount of magical energy nor the knowledge to completely utilise the energy I would gain.

I believe the correct choice is to use it on my Body. True, I would not have the Mind and Spirit to bring out the full potential of my Body. However, I would have an overwhelming body, which I could use to hunt Grimm and slowly gain more points.

Making my choice, I open up the interface of the Unlimited Enhancement and chose to turn my Body into S-rank. It was quick, and there was nothing of note. Not a flash of light, no pain, not an indicator of any sort that the enhancement was successful. Then again, the system said that enhancement is 100% all the time.

I went to a nearby tree and gave it a light punch...nothing happened. Scratching my head, I decided to give it a bit more strength. My fist made a hole. Once more, another go on a different tree. This time, I tried to put all my strength into my punch...it blew up the tree and a mile behind it!

T-This was a good thing...It seems I have complete control of my strength. A very good thing, indeed. This should be able to give me the ability to defeat Grimm and gain more points to enhance my Mind and Spirit.

As I was experimenting, it seemed that a nearby village was panicking due to the sudden loud noise since bandits have been on the rise lately. This caused negative emotions, and it attracted the Grimms. A small horde was in front of me. Maybe a dozen or so.

With what I know my strength could do, I decided to man up and take on the small horde of Beowolves. As one of them rushed toward me, I cucked back my fist and punched the oncoming Grimm, turning it into paste.

Of course, that was but a single Grimm; there were fourteen more to go. I took out my sword and turned it into a spear. The reach was something I needed. I know that my body's endurance probably got stronger, but I was not willing to test that on a live horde. There were many ways to test it.

With three more Grimm approaching, I took a sweeping stance for the spear and swung it horizontally to kill all three at once. It was a sloppy swing, but it was fast enough to catch the Grimm off guard and lop off their heads.

I did the same thing a few more times, and the horde was gone. Checking the System, I gained 25 EP. It was not surprising since I could see how much each Grimm would give me. Some of the Beowolves were worth only 1-3 EP. Sighing, I knew it would be a long journey to increase the ranks of both my Mind and Spirit. However, I was able to gain enough EP to bring both to E-rank.

Inspecting myself after the fight, I realised that I did not feel exhausted at all. It was...wow! I have never felt this alive! The punches and the swinging of the spear made my blood boil in excitement. I took a few deep breathes and exhalation to calm myself. Hey! The Mind enhancement seemed to already be in effect! If it was before the enhancement, I was sure to be jumping around like an idiot, celebrating.

However, with a smile, I shrugged at the thought. It was only the beginning, and I still have a long way to go before I arrive at Beacon. Going there would be the true start of my journey.
