LXVi| THIEVES AND CURSES

Sapphire had shoved him against the wall, which wasn't very hard with her muscular Quidditch build, and placed her wand to his neck. Her eyes were dark as she glared at him.

"Not with my stuff, you don't," Sapphire growled. "This has the Black family crest on it.

"I — no — what —?" spluttered Mundungus, who was slowly turningpurple.

"I'm guessing you went there the moment Dad moved out of it, thinking no one would go back," Sapphire added.

"I — no —"

"Sapphire," Dora warned, appearing behind her. "Watcha, people are staring."

"Go, Mungdungus," Sapphire whispered in warning. "Leave the stuff and step foot in that house and I swear I'll hex you into next week."

Mundungus sputtered before disappearing, leaving Sapphire to run a frustrated hand in her hair. If she were honest, she knew that her dad wanted nothing to do with the house and neither did she...but that did not mean he could steal what they owned. He was barely even useful to the order, he didn't deserve it.

"Go inside out of the cold," Sapphire mumbled to Harry.

"But why hasn't anyone controlled—"

"Harry, Mundungus has always been a thieving git," said Sapphire, waving her wand and making the thing Mundungus had dropped disappear. "He won't go back. Now go inside."

Once the trio had left her sight, Sapphire fell into step with her cousin. She and Dora hadn't spent much time together as of late due to trying to find the time. Dora seemed a lot more down in mood than the last time Sapphire had seen her.

"Alright, what's up?" Sapphire questioned, crossing her arms.

"I don't know what—"

"Dora," Sapphire emphasised, then her eyes widened. "Is it Remus, again?"

"How did you know?" Dora mumbled.

"Sister instinct," Sapphire hummed. "He's still not budging, huh?"

"I know he likes me back! He just keeps saying he's too old for me! He tried to tell me about not being with a werewolf but that doesn't bother me or the fact that he's got Nate! I love Nate!" Dora ranted, throwing her hands up. "It's infuriating."

"He's just spent so long alone that I think he's convinced himself that's it, you know?" Sapphire suggested. "Have you spoken to my dad about it?"

"Why would I do that?"

"They're best friends! Dad would kick some kind of sense into Moony," Sapphire encouraged. "Remus is just scared. We're in a war again and that's how he lost Nate's mum. My dad would know what to say to him...I hope. I'll speak to him at Christmas, I promise."

"Are you sure?" Dora breathed out.

"With what's coming, any hope of happiness is worth fighting for," Sapphire smiled, patting her shoulder. "Your duties should be up right about now, I'll let you go. Tell your Andy and Ted I said 'Hi'."

"Will do, see ya firefly," Dora waved before disappearing with a pop.

Sapphire retraced her steps toward the castle after completing her brief patrol, keenly observing any mischievous activities among the students. As she rounded a corner, an ear-piercing scream pierced the air, propelling her into a sprint toward the sound.

There, in the light, she spotted Katie Bell suspended six feet above the ground. Her screams echoed through the corridors, haunting and heart-wrenching. Beside her, Leanne was frantically grasping Katie's ankles, her face twisted with fear as she desperately tugged, trying to pull her friend back to safety.
