Just Getting Started

Start from the beginning

You were on high alert the entire car ride. Having no idea where you are headed, you could only hope that Fujimoto and the police were close enough to follow after you. After what felt like hours, but couldn't have been more than 15 minutes, the car stopped and Dabi removed your blindfold.

With your sight returned, you instantly began to look around. The group of you were now at an even more secluded place, the only building in sight was a small, abandoned looking shack. The thing looked like it would topple over any second.

"Come on," Dabi called for you, beckoning you to follow after him again.

You didn't speak as you walked after him. The only sound was the wind blowing through the neighboring trees and the creaking of the wooden patio. You weren't sure how far out from the city they had taken you. Dabi pushed the front door open to reveal a run down room, wooden chairs and a ripped up couch were the only real pieces of furniture.

Walking further into the room he flipped over a rug with a locked hatch underneath. As you climbed down behind him, the group of men followed after you, giving you no where to run if you wanted to. The basement under the shack appeared to be a large hallway with multiple doors on either side. The walls looked to be made of steel, making it appear more modern than the room above. You weren't sure how big this place really was, but you really didn't want to find out.

Dabi walked to the end of the hall, knocking on the large metal door. It was opened from the inside and a large man in a suit ushered you all in. A voice echoed from the other side of the rather normal looking room and you recognized it instantly.

"If it isn't my two favorite bartenders, I'm glad you both made it here safely," the boss grinned at you like this was some kind of performance.

"Come in, don't look so out of place," his voice was overly friendly as he walked up to you. Grasping your hand, he walked you to a chair sitting in front of a desk. Once you had taken a seat, he let you go, choosing to lean against the desk in front of you.

"Well, I'm sure you're very curious as to why I had Dabi bring you all the way out here. I know it's probably not what you were expecting."

"You could say that," the words left your mouth slowly, as your eyes wandered the room. There was only one exit, the door you had entered from. Your future seemed fine but you couldn't help but try to uncover any malicious intentions.

"I'll cut to the chase," he crossed his arms, preparing himself for the discussion ahead. "You know the kind of business we're in, but it's not just your average run of the mill drugs that were selling. You're new around here, but I'm sure you're aware of a guy who was very popular in this underground villain society. A man who could take quirks and grant them," he paused a moment, watching you take in what he was saying. "But there was another young man who came after him. He left a lasting impression on our line of work. He made it possible to destroy quirks. And well, I guess you could say both of them have had an influence on my actions."

"What exactly are you saying?" You gave everything you could to keep your voice from shaking. A feeling of fear had overcome you and you couldn't understand what part of him made you feel this way.

"I don't think we should stop at quirk enhancing drugs, nor should we stop at destroying heroes quirks. No, there is so much more potential there. To make a bullet that can destroy a specific piece of DNA is an incredible feat. But to create something that could take that away and give it to someone more deserving, well... wouldn't that be something," his evil grin was back in place and it sent chills down your back.

"And what does this have to do with me?" you questioned, staring right back at him. He wasn't going to intimidate you.

That smile only spread, as though he were glad you had asked.

"I need your quirk. Having the ability to know others quirks doesn't really benefit me right now. Doing this type of work is nasty business and I need to keep myself safe. But the drug is no where near ready, and I couldn't think of testing it on you."

And as if on cue, there was a horrid shriek that rang throughout the entire basement. Your breath caught in your throat as you listened to whoever that was. Those torturous screams kept you frozen in your seat. The hero in you wanted nothing more than to put in end to their suffering, but you couldn't afford to destroy the progress you made. All you could do was hope they could hold out for however long it took to put an end to this.

The boss looked up, locking eyes with someone on the other side of the room. It was slow at first but you noticed it after a moment. Your feelings of terror and anxiety began to melt away and were replaced with a sense of calmness.

"It isn't ideal," the man in front of you spoke, "but I need you to make sure that my plans won't be thwarted. Unless you want to end up like them?" he nodded his head toward the door behind you. Within a millisecond that feeling of dread shot back in you.

This had to be somebody's quirk at work, trying to help manipulate you into agreeing to work with him. There was no other explanation, because no one in their right mind would ever agree to this. But you knew you had to, or your case would fall to shambles.

"What do I have to do?" your voice finally gave into the fear, your body now tense as you tried to control the tremors running through you.

His kind smile from before had returned as he glanced back at the person behind you. Your anxiety subsided within seconds.

"There's a certain volatile hero who's been hot on my trail recently. I need you to make sure we stay one step ahead of him. Keep me in the clear and you'll be fine."

You didn't need to ask, you already had a pretty good idea on who he was talking about.

"Alright, deal," you nodded.

"I'm glad you made this so easy. I'll be in touch. Dabi, you both are free to go," he didn't add anything else as he pushed off from the desk, moving to sit in the chair behind it.

You followed after Dabi, choosing to remain silent as you made your way back up the hatch. The moment you stepped out of the shack you let out a sigh of relief, glad to be back above ground. Sitting in the car, you didn't pull away as he put the blindfold on. Your thoughts were racing during the drive back, so much had happened, but it still seemed like you were at square one. No where near close to putting this guy behind bars. After removing your covering, Dabi walked you to the cement fence at the edge of the courtyard.

"I'll check in with you, when we're not doing runs. If you see anything, just let me know." With that he opened the door, letting you back out to join the rest of society.

The first thing you noticed when you got back was the worry on Fujimoto's face.

"Are you okay?" he practically yelled, "What happened to you? We thought we lost you." He spoke quickly, not letting you answer any of his questions.

Grabbing his shoulders, you hoped he'd let you speak, "I'm fine. But I have no idea where they took me. I was actually hoping you guys would have followed, or that the camera at least picked something up."

His expression changed the second he heard you were okay, it was almost like a weight had been lifted.

"No, the moment you got in that car, it was like you disappeared. We couldn't hear you, see you or even track you. You had vanished and by the time we made it to your last location everyone was gone. The place was completely empty."

You could have laughed at this situation entirely. There must have been an electric type around that blocked out the signals. This guy truly thought of everything. The boss wanted you to keep him safe, but you were still struggling trying to pinpoint where his hideout was. Though you did get some new information. At least you now knew what he was planning to do. He wasn't trying to enhance or rid the world of quirks. He was trying to take them and do what? Keep them for himself? Sell them on the black market? You weren't sure, the only thing you knew was that you needed to put an end to this soon.
