A Chance

Slouching into the couch, you stared at the basket of laundry sitting on the coffee table. Figuring out what you were going to do with your life and actually doing it were two completely different things. Joe hadn't been kidding about this messy situation potentially ending your career with Orion. Lucky for you, Fujimoto was kind enough to open up his home to you while you figured out your next move. You needed to get home, that was step one, but you couldn't exactly leave just yet.

The doctor who oversaw your stay at the hospital made it evident that they wanted to do one more checkup before you were completely cleared. If they had it their way, you would still be at the hospital, but you persuaded them with a deal. If they released you right then and there, you promised to come back at least once.

So now, as you prepared to head back home, you spent your days moping around Fujimoto's apartment. You had hoped you'd be far away by now, miles and miles away from this place. But as fate would have it, that was not the case. It wasn't all bad, it gave you some time to spend with your one friend here before you had to go.

Fujimoto filled you in on what was left of the case after everything had gone down. Most of the bosses goons had been taken in and even the boss was found escaping the bunker and arrested. Even though his hideout had been destroyed, you had gathered enough evidence against him to press some major charges. Unfortunately only one person had ended up escaping. Dabi was nowhere to be found during the raid and he wasn't at any of the other possible hideout locations. No one knows where he could have gone, leaving him out there somewhere on the streets. But it made you a little happy to know that your hard work hadn't been for nothing and that the man most responsible had been taken down.

You let out a sigh, your eyes still burning holes in the basket in front of you. You didn't want to do laundry, you didn't want to pack up your things and you knew exactly why. Fujimoto tried to be helpful and offer you a place to work here in Japan and you appreciated him for it, but you couldn't stay here. Not with the possibility of, he who shall not be named, popping up around any corner. You had already decided that leaving was the right thing to do and you really didn't need anyone attempting to change your mind. Or perhaps he wouldn't try to and that might just hurt even worse.

Throwing all of those thoughts to the side you pushed up from the couch. This basket of clothes wasn't going to fold itself. Picking up piece after piece, you folded them into a neat pile. It didn't take long before you were working on autopilot and lost sense of the room around you. Grabbing one of your shirts, you shook it out only to realize it wasn't yours at all. The black fabric slipped from between your fingers and fell to the ground. Moving to pick it up, your hand swept across the floor, but you couldn't find it.

With a quick glance down, you realized you weren't looking at Fujimoto's wooden floor. Instead it was replaced with rough asphalt. Standing upright, you seemed to be just outside of a crowd of people. They all seemed excited about something and a few kids rushed to the center of the crowd, pushing past the adults with a pen and paper in hand. The smooth surface of the wooden floor was the only indication that this was a vision.

You moved, having free reign to watch this vision from any direction. Slipping into the group of people, you wanted to figure out what the future was trying to show you. Sneaking past the last row of the crowd you turned to find the source of this speculation and ended up coming face to face with the one person you had been trying to forget. Your heart jumped, but you knew he couldn't really see you, no matter how much it felt like he could. He brushed past you, going to talk with one of the little kids waiting for him.

This vision told you a few things, first Katsuki was awake and second, things looked like they would be just fine for him. It was almost like fate wanted to let you know you made the right decision. But your look at the future didn't end here, abruptly he looked up as if someone had called his name. A smile spread across his face as he watched someone approach. You couldn't see who it was as your surroundings began to blur and soon enough you were thrown into another vision.
