So lost in this sea of the future, you didn't notice when the bathroom door opened and Katsuki emerged, a towel wrapped around his hips and still soaking wet from his shower. He looked agitated, wondering why you had been yelling for him, but he faltered when he saw you. In a flash, he was by your side, more confused than before as to what could have happened while he was gone.
The second you saw him you lunged for him, your arms clasped securely around his neck, like you weren't sure if it was actually him. Shocked into silence, he hugged you back, his hands running up and down your back as he tried to think of what to say.
"What happened? Are you okay?" He pulled back to look at you, trying to make sure you weren't hurt.
Shaking your head, you tugged him back towards you. The overwhelming urge to cry subsided as you gained a better sense of your surroundings. He was still here, you still had time to figure this out.
"Do you want to talk about it?" He asked when he realized there wasn't a physical problem in the room.
"No," you choked, burying your head into his neck.
Katsuki didn't say anything more as he fell back on the bed, bringing you along with him. The both of you remained silent as you calmed down. There was a moment of clarity, the thoughts circling in your head slowed as you pieced everything together. The first thing you realized was the most obvious, something big was going to happen soon. You didn't know how much time you had, but you knew you had to do everything in your power to make sure it didn't happen. Second, Kat was extremely important to you and the amount of sheer agony you felt at the thought of losing him meant that there was no room for mistakes this time around.
This felt like some kind of sick joke, like the universe was testing you, trying to see how far you'd go to save the people you cared about. It almost made you wonder if you shouldn't allow yourself to get close to anyone ever again. They didn't deserve to all suffer the same fate. As these thoughts continued to run around, visions fleeted across your mind. Watching as Katsuki continued to rush into the shack, only to watch it blow to smithereens with him still inside. It almost seemed like whatever course of action you took, it all ended the same.
"You get nightmares often, don't you?" Katsuki broke the silence, putting everything in your head on hold.
"How did you know?" Your voice sounded as small as you felt.
"I'm more observant than you think." So he had noticed and here you thought you'd gotten away with keeping it to yourself. "I understand if you don't want to talk about it, but sometimes it helps."
He left it at that and his hands continued to run up and down your back. It felt warm and soothing and coaxed you into relaxing. You wished you could tell him, but it made no difference and now didn't feel like the time to fill him in on what you saw. That vision needed more analyzing before you decided on what you needed to do. Shoving any thought of the shack and Katsuki to the back of your mind, you reluctantly let him go with a sigh.
"We're going to be late."
His arms tightened around you, keeping you pressed to his chest. "We can take a few more minutes."
"Kat, I'm feeling better, really," but your protests didn't change his mind.
"That's great, but it doesn't mean I'm done."
A small smile formed on your lips as you placed your head back down. The strong sound of his beating heart resonated in his chest and you focused on it, trying not to think about the day when it would stop.
From the moment you both parted ways at the office, your mind became jumbled with visions. You were so distracted that you hadn't noticed when the police chief started his weekly recap meeting.
