I was reborn as an orphan, But I won't let that stop me

Then Annette noticed that Cassi has fallen unconscious so she picks her up in a princess carry. Right then they are surrounded by 14 men dressed in black cloaks and black masks hiding their faces. They are obviously powerful assassins, who are probably hired by someone with a high influence. If she was alone this would not pose a problem for her. Because even if she is not able to kill all of them she could still escape. But right now she has to take care of Cassi, who is not only useless in a fight she cant even run away by herself now either. She did not realize that she is not alone as Alzid is still there wide awake. It is well known that black magic users are immune to harmful sustenance, such as poisons and knock-out powders. The only thing that works on them are aphrodisiacs or magical poisons. 

"So what is this all about?" Alzid asks with his usual smile, which feels a little eerie in this situation. Only then did Annette remember him. Annette also realized that he was not talking to the men in black but to her. " Do you think that I would know?" She says colly. " Is it not your job as an aide?" He asks. "My job is to protect her and help her put with her wishes. Not to investigate evry enemy she and the grand dukedom has. I don't have that much free time." She says. " Ah, but evry other aides I have met have done this." He says genuinely surprised. "Those are people who either worship their master or are workaholics." She answers. "... You are so cold, I feel sorry for the lady." He says with a pretentious tone which for some reason makes her a little annoyed.  "Hay, don't thin..." Before she was able to finish her sentence she quickly jumps back to avoid the attack of 3 of the black men. This makes her focus more on the incoming fight as they are a lot stronger than she thought. If she is careless she should really die this time. Then the rest of the assassins also comes along and attacks her before she could even think. So she has only time to doge and hold on to Cassi tightly so that she does not drop her nor have the assassins wound her. They completely ignored Alzid and Alzid just stands there and watched with amusement. 'You bastard, why are you not helping? once this is done I will finally teach you a lesson. I am sure that the grand duke won't give me a hard time about it.'She thinks, not realizing that she has lost her usual cool that she is so proud of.

But even if she thinks like this she is still completely focused on the fight avoiding evry sword and magic attack. unfortunately with her holding on to Cassi, she cant use her magic as she needs her hands to do most of the magic spells she has learned. But she finally remembered that there is one spell she can use without her hands and that is shadow manipulation. So she casts that spell and her shadow starts to move like a snake attacking her opponents. The shadow slashes at the enemy with great force which makes him preoccupied with blocking the attacks rather than attacking her. Annette then jumps up and kicks away the sword of one of the other opponents. She then proceeds to kick him on the face which knocks him out. The shadow she has used has killed the opponent it was fighting by slithering his throat. Annette of course is not done with the person she has knocked out instead she stops on him breaking his ribcage. She then doges another attack from behind and proceeds with a back kick. Then her shadow comes over cutting off that man's arm before it stabs him in the chest which makes him fall to the ground. Then 3 other men come over all with fire magic so she steps to the side avoiding the first fireball then she steps in a circle to come behind one of the other fire mages and because the other 2 were aiming for her the fireballs hit the man in front of her burning him to a crisp.

Taking advantage of the confusion she runs over and kicks one of the men down while the other gets his head cut off by her shadow. As she kicked the man down she stomps on his head a few times to break his skull. But as she did this she realized too late that a sword come aiming for Cassi so all she could do is lower Cassi down so that she was stabbed instead. Fountunaly it did not hit anything important but there is still a stab wound on her chest which is pouring out blood. Despite this Annette acts like nothing is wrong. Not only is she calm but she is also smiling like a wild beast which makes the assassin shiver with fear and before he could react his head was already cut in half by her shadow. She has now killed half of the men here and luckily for her Alzid has finally decided to join the fun and kill of 4 of the assassins with black and fire magic. Annette kills 2 more while Alzid killed the last one. Once it is done Annette carefully put Cassi down somewhere without any blood. Alzid walks toward her and tries to say something to her before Annette grabs him and presses him against a tree so hard that Alzid moans in pain. 

Before he opan his eyes he can feel that she is strangling him which makes it hard for him to breathe. Once he opens his eyes he can see her piercing eyes and dangerous aura. Like she could kill him at any moment. Yet strangely knowing that she has his life in her hands did not scare him instead it made him excited. 'Why?' He thinks. 'What is this strange feeling?'He thinks with confusion then he hears her speak.  "Why did the assassins not attack you too, are you behind this?" She slightly loses her grip on his throat so that he can speak. "No, if it was I would not help you kill them." He answers seriously losing his signature smile. Who is he kidding even if he is happy he still doesn't want to die. "Oh, but why do I remember that you only pitched in halfway through." She says sarcastically. " I just thought it would be fun to watch, but when I saw that you were wounded I decided to help. Besides I have no obligation to help out." Just as he said this the binding on Annette's chest finally became loose because of the stab revealing her womanly features. Seeing this he looks at it with shock. " You are a woman?" He asks. "Yes." She says Camly not caring that she was found out. After all, it was the grand duke playing jokes, not her. Seeing that she doesn't care Alzid quickly calms down and even thinks that this is a good thing. Although he doesn't know why he thinks like this. He has never cared about the gender of his toy before so why now? 

But he did not reveal his thoughts on his face but instead asked her: " Do you believe me?" After contemplating for a while she answers: " Yes, you are such a bastard after all." 

" You seem to know me well." He says finally regaining his signature smile but instead of it being innocent like usual it is more seduction. Even though he did not realize that he made such an expression, of course, Annette is not affected at all. She just thinks that this is just a face he makes when he is all figured out so she shows his true face instead. " I don't, I can just tell at a glance that you are such a person, after all, your acting may fool others but not me." She answers calmly. " Then we must be similar types of peapole after all it takes one to know one." He says smilingly. " No." She reputes with destain in her eyes which makes him both excited and disappointed at the same time. Truly contradictory. " How sad." He says while showing his sad puppy eyes while knowing that she will not be affected at all but he doesn't care. "Don't say things that you mean, what is the point of it now." She says. "Alright, alright, but can you let me go now since you believe me? Besides you need to be treated, I did not know better I would have thought that it was wine dripping from your chest not blood." He says but Annette just smiles at him giving him a bad promotion. " Oh, I will after I am done with you." She says. " What do you mean?" He asks but she doesn't answer. Her smile gets bigger and even more sinister right before she loses one of her hands that pins him down. She then forms a fist and punches him very hard on his face and lets him fall to the ground. Ignoring his moaning because of pain. What she did not know however that after she has hit him she will never get rid of him ever again.
