Slouching into the couch, you stared at the basket of laundry sitting on the coffee table. Figuring out what you were going to do with your life and actually doing it were two completely different things. Joe hadn't been kidding about this messy situation potentially ending your career with Orion. Lucky for you, Fujimoto was kind enough to open up his home to you while you figured out your next move. You needed to get home, that was step one, but you couldn't exactly leave just yet.
The doctor who oversaw your stay at the hospital made it evident that they wanted to do one more checkup before you were completely cleared. If they had it their way, you would still be at the hospital, but you persuaded them with a deal. If they released you right then and there, you promised to come back at least once.
So now, as you prepared to head back home, you spent your days moping around Fujimoto's apartment. You had hoped you'd be far away by now, miles and miles away from this place. But as fate would have it, that was not the case. It wasn't all bad, it gave you some time to spend with your one friend here before you had to go.
Fujimoto filled you in on what was left of the case after everything had gone down. Most of the bosses goons had been taken in and even the boss was found escaping the bunker and arrested. Even though his hideout had been destroyed, you had gathered enough evidence against him to press some major charges. Unfortunately only one person had ended up escaping. Dabi was nowhere to be found during the raid and he wasn't at any of the other possible hideout locations. No one knows where he could have gone, leaving him out there somewhere on the streets. But it made you a little happy to know that your hard work hadn't been for nothing and that the man most responsible had been taken down.
You let out a sigh, your eyes still burning holes in the basket in front of you. You didn't want to do laundry, you didn't want to pack up your things and you knew exactly why. Fujimoto tried to be helpful and offer you a place to work here in Japan and you appreciated him for it, but you couldn't stay here. Not with the possibility of, he who shall not be named, popping up around any corner. You had already decided that leaving was the right thing to do and you really didn't need anyone attempting to change your mind. Or perhaps he wouldn't try to and that might just hurt even worse.
Throwing all of those thoughts to the side you pushed up from the couch. This basket of clothes wasn't going to fold itself. Picking up piece after piece, you folded them into a neat pile. It didn't take long before you were working on autopilot and lost sense of the room around you. Grabbing one of your shirts, you shook it out only to realize it wasn't yours at all. The black fabric slipped from between your fingers and fell to the ground. Moving to pick it up, your hand swept across the floor, but you couldn't find it.
With a quick glance down, you realized you weren't looking at Fujimoto's wooden floor. Instead it was replaced with rough asphalt. Standing upright, you seemed to be just outside of a crowd of people. They all seemed excited about something and a few kids rushed to the center of the crowd, pushing past the adults with a pen and paper in hand. The smooth surface of the wooden floor was the only indication that this was a vision.
You moved, having free reign to watch this vision from any direction. Slipping into the group of people, you wanted to figure out what the future was trying to show you. Sneaking past the last row of the crowd you turned to find the source of this speculation and ended up coming face to face with the one person you had been trying to forget. Your heart jumped, but you knew he couldn't really see you, no matter how much it felt like he could. He brushed past you, going to talk with one of the little kids waiting for him.
This vision told you a few things, first Katsuki was awake and second, things looked like they would be just fine for him. It was almost like fate wanted to let you know you made the right decision. But your look at the future didn't end here, abruptly he looked up as if someone had called his name. A smile spread across his face as he watched someone approach. You couldn't see who it was as your surroundings began to blur and soon enough you were thrown into another vision.
Katsuki could be seen clear as day, but this time his surroundings remained blurred. You hadn't a clue where you were, his apartment maybe? He had a look of contentment as he gazed at whoever was in the room with him. His eyes slightly glossy, almost mesmerized with the person before him, but you couldn't get a good enough look at who it was. Katsuki's lips were moving, but no sound came out and as you tried to figure out what he was saying he suddenly pulled out a black box, sinking down to one knee.
Before you could really understand what you were witnessing, the vision faded out. Well, Katsuki was apparently going to be more than fine without you. This was more than enough and you didn't want to watch anymore, but you didn't have a choice in the matter as the space around you changed once again. This scene was filled with more people and chatter filled the air, but you couldn't be bothered to look around. Your eyes landed on Katsuki as he stood by a line of his friends and your stomach sank as it began to dawn on you. What was about to happen wasn't something you wanted to watch.
You didn't want to see anymore, you got the point and it didn't need to be rubbed in your face. Turning away, you hoped you could run and get away before you saw anything more. But you didn't get two steps before the crowd went silent and the music began to play.
Enough, this was enough.
Closing your eyes, you wished for this to end. But the small gasps you heard from the people around you was enough to get the best of your curiosity. Peeking between your eyelids you caught sight of her as she walked down the aisle towards you and she was... was this some kind of joke?
Reaching out, you tried to touch her, but she didn't move with you like a reflection should. She walked through you, totally unaware of your presence. Your future self stopped in front of Katsuki, the both of you completely enamored with the other as the ceremony began. Your vision jumped again and continued to do so, showing you snippets of the potential life you would have. Birthdays, anniversaries, you even saw what your kids could have looked like if that was something you both decided on. The visions finally pulled to a close with the two of you much older, but still totally and utterly in love with each other.
Fujimoto's apartment came back into view as you slumped into the couch again. Those were all just possibilities, the future was always subject to change. There was no point in dwelling on it. At least that's what you told yourself.
The rest of the day went by in a daze, you couldn't really focus on anything if you tried. It wasn't until Fujimoto had returned from the office and the both of you were eating dinner that you realized how much you had zoned out.
"So," Fujimoto spoke slowly, watching you as you pushed the food around on your plate. "I'm sure you already know."
"Yeah," you sighed, as the images from this morning rushed through your mind again.
He cleared his throat, unsure of how he should word what he wanted to say. "Well, I went to visit him after work and uh, he asked about you..."
"Is that so," you nodded, still staring at your food.
"Come on, you're not even going to see him?"
That snapped you out of your haze. "I already told you I was leaving. You should have told him I was already gone."
He gave you a sheepish look, "Don't get mad, but I told him you were leaving on Friday." He could barely get the last of his words out as he caught sight of your expression.
"Fujimoto, nothing you do or say is going to change my mind. You do know that, right?"
"I'm not doing this for me!" He exclaimed. Taking in a breath he focused his attention back on you, "Look, I've worked with Bakugou for a long time and I know I wasn't exactly the most supportive a week ago, but he's a better person when he's with you."
"So what? I'm supposed to stay to make him more likable?" You huffed, pushing your plate away.
Fujimoto dropped his head in his hands in defeat, "That's not what I'm saying at all." He stayed like that for a while before he finally looked back up at you. "Do I like having you around? Yes. Would I love for you to stay here? Yes. But I know that it's a decision for you to make. All I'm saying is, go talk to him. At least work that out before you leave."
The room fell silent as you mulled over what he said, but you knew exactly what would happen if you decided to go talk with Katsuki.
"I just can't," and with that you got up from the table, disappearing into Fujimoto's guest room.
For the rest of the night and much of the next day you tried to prepare for your departure. You needed your things packed, you checked job listings, you double and triple checked your flights and tickets. Obsessing over every little detail that by noon there wasn't really anything left for you to do. You didn't want to be left with your thoughts. Keeping busy prevented the scenes from yesterday from infiltrating your mind, but with nothing to do they quickly filled your head.
That future was inviting and perfect. It was everything you ever wanted, but it almost felt foolish to trust it. You had only seen the fairytale ending, the visions completely left out the everyday obstacles and arguments the two of you would face. Not to mention, people changed their minds daily, who's to say your future wouldn't be different by tomorrow.
Luckily there was a knock at the door and right now you would talk to just about anyone to have a distraction from this inner turmoil going through your thoughts. Opening the door without checking who it was, you immediately locked eyes with a pair of blood red irises. Swiftly you slammed the door shut, he was definitely the one exception to the long list of people you would be willing to talk with.
You could hear him call your name even through this wall between you, "Open the door, I just want to talk."
"I'm good thanks," you replied, leaning back against the wooden frame.
"Just open the fucking-" he stopped talking and you swore you could hear him suck in a breath. "I'm not leaving till you let me in."
If it had been anyone else you would have waited them out, but you knew Katsuki was only telling the truth. The stubborn fucker that he was. If it wasn't you who let him in, Fujimoto definitely would. Mustering up all the courage you had, you turned the knob and barely opened the door.
"What do you want?"
Seizing the opportunity he pushed the door open further, "Can we talk?"
Averting your eyes from his, you took a step back, letting him into the apartment. The front door closed shut as he followed after you to the dining room. Putting as much distance between you as you could, you walked towards the table, leaning against it with your arms crossed. The silence between you was loud, making you more nervous than when you first saw him. Your eyes swept over him, and you noticed the bruises that covered him from before had almost completely healed. Most of the cuts and stitches still remained, a few you knew would end up scarring if they weren't taken care of soon.
"Look, I've got things I need to do. So what did you want to talk about?" You asked when he made know move to continue the conversation.
His eyes traveled slowly, taking every piece of you in before they landed on your face. "You were just going to leave? I didn't even deserve a proper goodbye?"
"You're the one who said-"
"I know what I said," he interjected. "But I was angry then. I had just found out that you lied to everybody."
"It wasn't a lie," you immediately defended yourself. "And what about you? You left me after promising me you wouldn't."
"You withheld some hefty information, so forgive me if I wasn't feeling so trusting," he snapped.
"I only did that, because I was trying to protect you!" The both of you were all but yelling as you tried to get your points across.
"I know! Alright, I know that now. This wasn't.." Katsuki groaned, apparently fed up with the direction this talk had gone. He pinched the bridge of his nose, taking a deep breath before he tried again. "I'm sorry, I should have trusted you. I was an idiot, a dumbass, fucking stupid. I'll say it anyway you want to hear it, just give me a chance-"
"I can't do that," you murmured, you needed to shut this down before it got too far. But the look on his face told you he wasn't giving up that easily.
"You can't or you won't?" He demanded, but what were you supposed to say. The silence settled between you again and that seemed to be enough of an answer. When Katsuki spoke again, it wasn't anything you expected to hear. "It took me a little while to figure out what was real and what was a dream. But your voice isn't so easily replicated."
He moved across the room, trapping you between himself and the table behind you. He was much closer than he should have been and you couldn't bear to let yourself look up at him.
"I know how you feel about me," he spoke in a hushed tone, making this a moment just between the two of you. "All I'm asking for is a chance. A chance for your forgiveness, a chance to make it up to you and a chance that you might stay. I'll do whatever it takes, whatever you want. I'll take you to the most expensive restaurant in the city, the country, in the fucking world."
"Katsuki," you stopped him, it was taking just about everything not to give into him. "Why does it even matter?" Your eyes finally flicked up to meet his and that was your first mistake.
"Because I want to be with you," he faltered as if he wasn't sure he should have said that, but what did he really have to lose at this point. "I have never felt this way about anyone. Ever. And I don't want to go another day where I wake up and you're not there."
You wanted to trust in every word he said, yet you couldn't help but let your eyes glaze as your quirk took over.
"Hey! Stop that," Katsuki tugged at your chin, pulling your attention away from the future you were looking for. "Don't you dare check how this is going to turn out."
Lifting your chin out of his grasp, you tried to lean away from him, "And why not? Huh?"
"I don't care if you leave me tomorrow. Or next week. Or even ten years from now. I want to spend whatever time I have with you, without worrying about it coming to an end. So don't check and just live in this moment with me."
Biting your lip, you hated how compelling he sounded. Your heart beat hard against your chest as you tried to stick by your decision, but he had this way of persuading you just a little. This by no means diminished your worries, but you were curious about what he meant.
"One date. That's all you get."
His lips met yours the second you finished talking and like a mind of their own your arms wrapped around him. You'd be a liar if you didn't say this is what you wanted from the moment you knew he was okay. He tugged at your hips, pushing you further back on to the table. You nearly lost track of where you were as his tongue ran across your lower lip, wanting to mix with yours.
"You do know this is Fujimoto's table?" You breathed, unable to pull yourself away from him.
"I'll buy him a new one," he muttered as his hands slipped under the back of your shirt, craving for the feel of your skin on his.
But before you could become completely lost in his touch, you pressed your hand against his chest. Pushing him away, you couldn't let things get out of hand. He looked confused as the distance between you continued to grow, but he didn't fight you on it.
"Don't push your luck, Katsuki," you warned, but you sounded far too dazed for it to have any real meaning. "You get one night to persuade me."
"Whatever you want," he offered. "I meant what I said, I'll take you anywhere you want to go."
"I want you to make me dinner. It could be anything you think I might like, but I do request for the best bottle of wine you can find. You can pick me up at 6." Glancing at the clock, you thought it over. "That should give you just enough time to figure things out. But if I'm not impressed by the end of the night Katsuki, then consider that the end of your one chance."
"Right," he nodded, his thoughts now moving a mile a minute, trying to figure out the best way to go about this. He turned to leave, wanting to make use of every second he had. "I'll see you tonight," he called over his shoulder and you could hear his nerves make their way to his voice.
You could have checked the future as he made his decisions, but for once you wanted this to be a surprise. Taking Katsuki's advice you turned your quirk off as best you could. Your heart wanted to be with him more than anything, but your brain couldn't stop making its list of worries. Katsuki admitted when he was wrong, yet you had to wonder if you'd end up becoming a problem for him in the future.
The thought nagged at you as you got ready for the date he had planned. So much so that you were determined to stick by your decision, no matter how perfect he made it. This wasn't some romance novel, this was real life and you couldn't spend your time living in some fairytale. No matter how perfect it seemed.
Katsuki arrived exactly at 6. One look at him and you knew he had already pulled out all the stops. He rarely wore suits to the office, but right now you wished he would everyday. How did he always end up looking so gorgeous? He didn't seem to notice how engulfed you were by him as he eyed you. You never really dressed up like this and the dress you had picked was nothing like the skimpy ones you had worn undercover.
"You look beautiful. Absolutely stunning," Katsuki spoke slowly as he watched you in awe.
A smile spread across your face and you could feel the heat of a building blush on your cheeks. He had to know the effect he had on you.
"Flattery isn't going to get you anywhere," you joked.
Seeming unfazed by your words he took your hand, leading you down to the car and back to his apartment. The second he opened the door, the most delicious smell hit your nose. There was an array of scents and you couldn't pinpoint what exactly he had put together.
"Before dinner, I actually got you some flowers, but I wasn't sure what kind you would like," he pulled you past the kitchen and into the living room. "So, I kind of just bought everything they had."
Your jaw nearly dropped as you looked around the room. Every free space had been covered with different arrangements of flowers. The confident and assured Katsuki you had come to know was so determined to make this right, that he was actually second guessing every decision he was making. So worried about ruining everything, he left no room for error. It was honestly completely adorable and made you that much more attracted to him. If that were even possible.
"I love them. But next time I think one would suffice," you teased, turning around the room one last time before you faced him again.
"Next time?" He questioned, a slight smile pulled at the side of his mouth.
"IF there's a next time," you corrected, feeling like an idiot for getting anyone's hopes up.
Katsuki cupped your face in his hands, tilting your gaze up to his. He looked as though he wanted to say something, but instead he nodded towards the dining room. Much like his living room, the table was covered in a bunch of dishes that had nothing to do with each other. It seemed more like a set up for a buffet than an actual thought out meal. Looking at each one, you couldn't put together how they related, but they were each something you liked. It slowly became apparent that each item was either something you had mentioned liking or something he had made for you before.
"I didn't know what you felt like eating," he began, his eyes reading your expression carefully.
"So you made everything," you finished for him, with the smile that you couldn't seem to get rid of.
The food was delicious, but you hadn't expected otherwise. Katsuki always found a way to surprise you and tonight was no different. It was almost effortless to fall back to the way things were, as if the two of you never had an argument to begin with. His nerves soon vanished as you both went back to normal conversation. But that nagging voice still bothered you in the back of your mind. Forcing you to second guess spending a lifetime with him. Instead of keeping these thoughts to yourself, the wine now coursing through your system found the courage you needed to ask him about it.
"Katsuki, you say you want to see where this goes, but the day of the raid you also said you couldn't pick me." He froze at this change in topic, and you could see his now anxious expression as he waited to see where you took this. "I guess I'm just wondering if I'm going to end up getting in your way. If I'm going to become a problem for you in the long run."
He took a breath, collecting his thoughts. "I already told you that I'm an idiot, but I've never been good at letting others look after me. And it's hard for me to accept help. I got upset with you and I was wrong, that's something that I've been trying to work on. So to answer your question, no you won't be getting in my way. I like when you're here and I want you to stay. I'm not saying that things between us will be perfect and that I won't make mistakes, but I will try everyday to make you happy."
It could have been the wine, but your face felt flushed and your heart beat unsteadily at his words. The future was always unknown, even to someone with a power like yours. But even so, the thought of spending your future with someone else didn't feel right. You could fight it, you could run, but you knew things would never feel okay. He wanted this and you couldn't deny that you did too. Who cares if it lasted a week or for the rest of your life. Everyday spent on earth was meant to be lived and not a day should be left to go by living in fear of the unknown.
"So," he broke your thoughts, "what are you thinking?"
"Well, Katsuki, I can't really say I'm completely satisfied with the way this night has gone."
Shock crossed his face before it was quickly hidden away. "You said I had the entire night to impress you. So technically I have until dawn to make this perfect. Whatever you want, consider it done," he declared, determined to win you over.
A mischievous smile played on your lips from his frustration. Getting up from your spot you reached for his hand. He hesitated, still not sure what you were up to, but he took your hand anyway. Without a word you led him to his bedroom. That smirk you had come to love appeared on his face as he put two and two together.
Tugging on his tie, you brought him to your level. "Satisfy me and you can consider me yours, Katsuki," you whispered the words in his ear, your hands already moving to unbutton his shirt.
He wasted no time, wanting you as close to him as possible. He knew he had messed up and that he truly didn't deserve you, but he would spend as much time as it took to prove himself to you.
His lips collided with yours as the dress you had been wearing fell to the floor. Without a moment to spare he pulled you close, his body felt warm to the touch and you never wanted him to let you go. Losing all sense of time and the space around you, the two of you dropped into bed unable to hold each other close enough. He kissed you all over, leaving no spot untouched and his hands roamed over you, putting to memory every inch and curve of the way you felt. He wanted you, in every sense of the word, but he had barely got you back in his arms.
Your hips pushed into his, wanting him just the same. No more worrying, no more overthinking, just you and him taking things moment by moment. And at this moment you craved him more than anything. You couldn't stop the moan as his tongue ran up your neck and his teeth tugged at your ear.
"I want you so addicted to me, you can't even think about doing this with anyone else," his voice was rough as he held back from completely sinking into you.
Already dripping at the thought, your legs wrapped around him, trying to pull him closer. You could feel his smile against your throat and without any warning he gave you what you wanted. He entered you slowly like the tease he was.
"Katsuki," you whined, digging your fingers into his back, but he wouldn't budge.
"Tell me who you want, baby. Tell me who you fucking want."
Practically aching for it, you gave in far to easily, "You. I only want you."
"That's my girl," he husked as he finally rocked into you.
You never wanted this to end and it didn't have to. You could have him all to yourself for as long as the two of you would like. And judging by the way the both of you clutched to each other, you couldn't see this ending any time soon.
Your eyes shut as his forehead pressed to yours and your lips reconnected. Hungry for it, his hips snapped into yours, pushing you both towards the climax you desired. It didn't stop at one or two or even three, the two of you inseparable as the burning need and want became satiated. You weren't sure how much time had passed before you both collapsed into the bed. His arms wrapped around you, not ready to let you go.
Barely able to keep your eyes open, your head pressed against Katsuki's chest, but he wasn't going to bed anytime soon. His fingers ran circles along your back, lulling you to sleep as he lay beside you, wide awake.
"Go to sleep," you spoke slowly, trying to keep from going to bed.
"You first," he mumbled, his arms tightened around you as if afraid you'd disappear.
"I'm not going anywhere, Kat."
And that was the truth. Even though you promised you wouldn't check the future, you couldn't help but watch the events of tomorrow and the day after and the day after that. There was no real end in sight as images of your future with Katsuki played behind your eyelids as you fell asleep in his arms. It wouldn't be perfect, nothing in this world ever was, but a life with him would be pretty damn close.
I still have one last chapter planned and a short side story while I figure out what I want to write about next. If anyone is interested 😊
