After being given a second chance at life, Marina Cruz decides it is time for a new change. With the help of her cousin, she drops out of college, moves to another state, joins the fire academy, and becomes a firefighter at the 118. Two years later, after a no strings attached relationship with her best friend Evan Buckley, she quickly realizes that she has never been in a committed relationship that lasted more than two weeks or even been in love for that matter. Eventually, Marina gets her first shot at love... which ends tragically. Promising herself to never go through that pain again she builds up walls in her heart and swears she'll never fall for anyone. But then Eddie Diaz, the new firefighter at the 118, unknowingly starts to tear down those walls, and with the help of his son Christopher and their best friend Buck, he manages to make his way into her heart. Unfortunately, Marina and Eddie are two very dense people, and while everyone knows that they are in love with each other they seem oblivious to it all... until they no longer are.

Buck is 9 when his sister leaves him and his family alone for her boyfriend Doug when she turns 18. Still at age 9, Buck realizes he's getting even less and less attention from his parents causing him to increase his reckless ideas from skateboarding accidents to playing with fires. He's craving any type of attention from his parents even negative. Bobby Nash firefighter Captain of the 118 lost his family in a fire. His firehouse gets a call of a reported house fire and the only person saved is a small kid named Evan Buckley. Without any family willing to take him, and the police unable to locate his sister, Bobby gets clearance to give the child a roof over his head. He was drawn to the boy, and he knows he can take good care of him.

Evan Buckley moves to LA and becomes a firefighter for LAFD, station 118. While at work, he meets new coworker Eddie Diaz and is immediately attracted to him, causing Buckley too act jealous and cold towards Eddie. And then she ran from Minnesota to Austin, Texas to get away and find herself, two years later she found herself a paramedic with the 126, but after death wreaks havoc on her life once more, she goes to her father in LA and becomes a paramedic/firefighter with the 118. Falling in love with a coworker isn't recommended, especially when they work with your father, but also neither is falling for two of your best friends.
