"Barb?" I whisper called as I looked around the library before sighing when I didn't find her.

"Well, if it isn't f/n l/n. In the library of all places?" a voice caught me just as I was about to leave the building.

"I was just leaving," I replied, turning to see the librarian.

"Hm? You didn't set any books on fire, did you?" she raised a judging brow at me.

"It was one time and no," I replied, "excuse me."

I quickly turned and left the room before hurrying to my locker and grabbing my stuff.

"Ugh—chemistry first," I groaned, slamming my locker shut and heading straight for the class.

Once in, I took my seat, watching for Nancy and Barb as I waited.

Nancy arrived just before the bell rang but Barb was nowhere in sight.

"Where's Barb?" Nancy asked when she noticed me and Barb's empty seat.

"I was about to ask you the same," I replied, "did she not bring you home?"

"What? No I told her to go on ahead," she replied.

"But her car was still there when I left," I shot back.

We both shared a weird look before Nancy called to the girl in front of her, asking if she'd seen Barb today either. It was a negative on that front.

Weird.

Class began and I tried to focus, not that I usually do in the first place, but this time it was Barb's absence that was breaking my focus and not my loathing for this class or this teacher.

After class_

"Wait—so you're saying, Barb didn't take you home?" Nancy asked as we walked to our next class.

"That's exactly it," I nodded, "I couldn't find her when I was looking around the house before leaving so I just figured she went on ahead. But when I got to the car she wasn't there."

"How long did you wait around for her?" she asked.

"I don't know, maybe ten minutes?" I replied, shrugging slightly, "I'm telling you, Nancy, I don't know where she is. I thought she was with you, kinda. Maybe she just walked home?"

"She would be at school then," Nancy pointed out, "Barb hasn't missed a day."

"That's true..." I nodded, "I don't know what you want me to say, Nance, I don't know where she is."

"I don't either and I'm worried," Nancy replied, "I'm going to call her house at break."

"Alright, you do that. I'll see you at lunch," I smiled slightly, "don't worry too much, Nancy, I'm sure she's fine."

"Yeah," she nodded, "me too."

With that, I headed upstairs while she turned down the hall.

Stupid history class now. School is not my jam, god.

Lunch_

"Hey," I looked to Nancy as we joined up in the lunch hall, "anything?"

"No," she shook her head, "no one answered, I'm going to try again."

I picked the apple off her tray and wiped it down before taking a bite.

"Something doesn't feel right," I told her as she steered us towards Steve and his dumbass duo, "Oh come on, not these guys."

Nancy just sighed before sitting down next to Steve and I got to sit next to Carol who had her foot up on the table, showing off some kind of disgusting rash on her ankle.
