The next day_
Halloween_"Right, are you ok?" my Mum looked over at me after doing her final sweep of the house to make sure she has everything she needed.
"Uh—yeah," I nodded, "you've left me money for essentials, right?"
"I have. It's in the usual spot," she told me before coming over and giving me a kiss on the cheek, "right, I'm leaving now. I'll have your Father call you once I've met him in Portland. We'll be back in a week or so."
"Yeah, yeah. Sure," I nodded, pushing her off me, "have a safe trip."
"I will. You stay safe as well," she told me before turning and leaving again.
"I swear," I rolled my eyes, "always on business trips."
Turning, I finished my breakfast, grabbed my helmet and keys and then road out to Nancy's house where she was waiting on the front.
"Remember—"
"Secure helmet," she cut me off with a smile as she'd finished stuffing her bag into mine and slung it onto her back, "I know, y/n. You remind me every time."
"And I'll keep reminding you every time in the future too," I told her as she pulled her helmet on, "can't be the reason you fall off and crack your noggin."
"Head, y/n, head."
"Noggin is just slang for head, Nancy," I replied as she climbed on behind me and wrapped her arms around my waist, "secure?"
"Yup," she nodded.
"Alright," I pushed off and took us to school.
When we arrived, I parked in my usual spot and Nancy climbed off before glancing over to me.
"Library?" she asked.
"Uh—yeah. I just need to drop some stuff off at my locker so go on ahead," I told her as she passed me her helmet and my bag now without her own tucked away in it, "what're we going to study?"
"Bio I think," she replied, "it's been a while since we looked at anything biology related."
"Great," I sighed, "alright, I'll meet you there in five."
"See you in five then," she nodded as she walked off and I took my keys from my bike and climbed off before I just stretched then pulled my helmet off. Nancy's helmet sat on my seat as I did. It really is a pain in the ass to carry two helmets around, I get why so many people don't wear them, but I'm not in the business of getting hurt while riding especially after all of the chaos that happened last year so guess I've just got to suck it up and go along with it. No point complaining about being safe really, is there?
"Nice bike," a voice came from my right, I glanced over to see the new kid.
"Nice car," I shot back, knocking my head to the object in discussion as I did.
He glanced over to it and just smiled, "well, yeah. I'm the one who picked her."
Eugh—his tone.
"Yeah. See... now that's just fucking weird, dude," I rolled my eyes as I started on my way inside the school again.
Once there, I stopped by my locker, got rid of the helmets and grabbed my books before heading over to the library where Steve and Nancy were already studying together.
"You'll never guess who came to talk to me," I whispered to them as a sat down, "the new kid. What was his name again?"
"Billy," Steve rolled his eyes before pointing at me with his pencil, "stay away from him. I don't think he's a good guy."
