It wasn't long before we reached where we parked last night and to our disappointment, we found Barb's car still chilling on the side of the road.
"It's not moved," I commented as we both pulled our helmets off and got off the bike.
Nancy walked to the car and looked in while I inspected the wheels and the area around.
"It hasn't moved. Seriously," I told her, "and there's only one set of footprints coming back this way, see?"
She walked over and looked at where I was pointing.
"No, not really," Nancy replied.
"Alright, take my word for it. Only one set of footprints. They can only be mine," I told her.
Nancy sighed before looking around.
"Barb?" she called out, "Barb...! God where could she have gone?"
"Don't know," I hummed, "she definitely wasn't here when I came out the bathroom and I waited for her for a while out here."
"How'd you get home then? Walk?" she asked as she gestured for us to walk through the forest, likely back to Steve's.
"Jonathan Byers drove by so I got a lift," I answered awkwardly, "it was... slightly uncomfortable if I'm to be honest with you. Definitely was now that I know what he was doing out there last night."
"It's weird," Nancy said, "what was he even doing out here last night?"
I shrugged as Steve's back gate came into view off in the far distance.
"Don't know, don't care. The guys a weirdo, can't deny it now, can we?" I sighed.
"I thought... he might have been better than that," Nancy muttered, "turns out, everyone was right after all."
"Ouch. Kinda sad to see your expectations just crumble there, Nance," I patted her back sympathetically before grabbing the gate and pushing it open, I walked in to see the space exactly as it was left last night.
"Barb?" Nancy called out as she walked in after me.
"Barbara?!" I shouted before heading towards the house, Nancy walked towards the woods, "Barb?"
I tried the door, but it was locked so I looked through the windows to see nothing there before the sound of rapid footsteps caught my attention and Nancy came charging towards me.
"Hey, hey, hey," I grabbed her, "What's going on? Are you ok?"
"There's something in the woods," she told me, "something without a face."
"What?" I asked, not believing her, "you mean? Like a mask?"
"No. It... It looked real," she exclaimed, "it looked—"
"Ok, ok, I'll take a look," I told her.
"No. No, no, no, no," she shook her head, "what if it gets you?"
"Nance, I'm sure it's nothing. Come on," I walked in the direction she came from with her behind me, holding onto the back of my jacket as we walked.
I looked around but didn't see anything, faceless or otherwise.
"There's nothing here," I told her, "just trees, bushes, some leaves..."
"I swear, there was something there," she exclaimed.
"Ok," I nodded, "I believe you. Shall we... get you home?"
"But, what about Barb?" she asked as I led her back towards the gate.
